You skipped the best part! The repotting is the best part. Cleaning the roots, soil falling into the pot, the chopstick hitting the mix, the nice looking nebai, all that sound is nice!
Highly dependent on the particular tree, the climate where the tree is kept, the availability of winter protection, and the caretaker’s comfort level with repotting “out of season.” I live in a mild climate and have so many trees to work on that several years ago I started spreading out the repots to Fall through Spring instead of just the one month of “perfect” timing in spring. I’ve learned which trees do well with earlier potting in my collection. My advice is to work on a durable tree as a test first and then move to others in subsequent years if you are successful. Be prepared to move the worked tree/s to a frost free location just in case.
My larch are usually the first trees to break buds. This third week of January, there are a few stray buds showing needles. Similar mild climate, western Oregon.
I have many pots by many ceramic artists, all of whom I respect and admire… even if I don’t currently have one of their pots that I like for a particular tree. I do love me some American-made bonsai pots! 😁
Great pot choice for a nice tree. That root over the pot edge, and those rocks, really fit the folded pot edges. Look forward to seeing this again.

It’s nice to have choices when selecting a container. Even nicer when one or more of the choices seem to make sense. It’s fun stuff!
