My favorite bit is how the mad scientist looks the most smitten when he realizes she's poisoned him.
“I’ve been patient. I’ve been gracious. And this mountain is covered with wolves.”
I love the way he has all those things in the same list.

I always found that humorous, too, but now that I look back at it I realize he was threathening her

he's politely suggesting that she stay around for another drink while pointing out that the mountain is covered in hungry wolves:p and then he goes on to sing about how the voices in his head say he shouldnt kill her yet
it's scary:p not just for comedic effect
but also kinda funny, too, like the whole song:)
Dracula pretty much does that in the book. Didn't make it to any adaptation, even if it would have been a great movie scene.

I really love the detail that at the beginning, she's wearing sensible clothes and shoes for hiking around in the woods, and when he captures her he puts her in this flimsy dress and useless heels. It's understated but really great.
Yeah, that's usually what I put my victims in.

Hmm, I could barely see the shoes in the first few seconds, but you're right, they certainly weren't heels
You know, I didn't notice that....
It seems so appropriate that she escapes by tricking him given how he keeps saying he's way too smart for her...
I think my favorite part about this animatic is how it develops the characters. It takes a character that by all rights ought to be irredeemable--an evil scientist who kidnaps a woman to make her fall in love with him--and yet makes him likeable through his genuine affection and gentle nature. Sure, he might be planning to glass the earth someday, but we get the feeling that he actually thinks it wouldn't be worth it without her. I also appreciate that, in the end, even though she comes to realize he's not as bad as he seems, she still chooses to run away in the end; she's sympathetic, but doesn't just let him have his way when he's in the wrong (see: kidnapping). Overall, it's just a really well done video oozing with character and I absolutely love it.

I love too, that his admiration for her for "foiling" him and escaping just seems to grow. Maybe creepy IRL, but here: I get it. :-)

Goodness that head-petting of Assistant Scarface. That's just wholesome as heck. This animation is entirely adorable. I kinda wonder, given that we see Scarface pursuing the mad scientist's crush at the end, if this isn't the first time she's had to deal with this. She's *very* clever when it comes to escaping. I mean, correctly identifying narco-tonic in a mad scientist's lab *and* successfully drugging a drink with it while dancing? That's both clever and audacious.
How much you wanna bet that the pony-monkey monster breaking out shortly after her escape wasn't a coincidence? Sure was a convenient distraction to lure away the henchmen…

I love how you've expanded the story so much instead of just taking it beat by beat from the lyrics. The song says nothing about her standing on a ledge or poisoning him, but those little touches really flesh out the characters in a huge way. It's fantastic. I hope you do fully animate it someday.
I lost it with the C# coding, its suprising to see the sintaxis of a coding joke being used this well, huge props dude.

Just another day on Skullcrusher Mountain.
That last frame of Scarface chasing her as she runs through the woods is so funny. It also kind of makes sense because Scarface would understandably be by his master's side at all times and she never tried to poison Scarface, so of course he's going to chase her.

I love the mad scientist's first-date-happy expression as he says welcome...! (His visual similarity to a certain Dr. Horrible is just a bonus ;-) Having the half-pony/half-monkey monster break out at the end is a nice touch!
I like how you animated the main character of this song. He seems so earnest in his affection of her. And he just genuinely doesn't understand why she doesn't like him. Fits Johnathon song really well.

This song is poignant sweet, horrific, and funny...and your storyboard somehow manages to capture all of those same vibe in a totally original way, but in a way that still fits perfectly...?! There's so much imagination and humanity here, I can't get over it. The entire second half could easily have been a retread of the first half, but you created a narrative that is fun and poignant in it's own way....damn. And then the monkeypony at the end? Lol
It is a fucking crime that this doesn't have more views

This is so cool! As someone who's been half-planning to make an animatic for this song, it's fun to see the ways you've portrayed all the characters and their relationships with one another. I'd always imagined the scientist as being unhinged and slowly devolving into madness--seeing him portrayed as a really cheerful ol' chum that's happily planning global destruction is fantastic. A fabulous job all-round!

I find it vaguely scary that the outfit SkullCrusher is wearing looks JUST like Dr. Horrible's outfit in Dr. Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog. But he doesn't feel...a thing.
Honestly I could totally see this song be part of DHSAB2. And it would be awesome.
My favorite part about this video is that even though woman was scared of the scientist. There still might be hope for a future between them. Because she could have just crushed the flower on the ground with her foot or torn it to shreds. But what did she do instead after knocking him out? She carefully placed it in his hand before escaping. To me that says "Maybe if you stop being evil I will give you chance!"

This is the most visually descriptive animatic I've ever seen. The song is funny enough, but oh my GOSH, the emotional level you add to this is so great. As well as the humor!

Honestly, you could just show a video of a pickle or something and I'd still listen to Johnathan Coulton, but this was nicely done. Much better than a pickle.
I have to say that of all the versions of this out there, this is the hottest version of the kidnap victim so far.

It turns a funny song into a heartfelt story with beautiful and developed characters. Just my kind of thing.
I laughed so hard when he asks her if it would kill her to be civil as she is trying to escape out the window! As if her trying to escape is not civil. So hilarious!
Okay I just can’t get enough of this animation. I think I’ve watched this like 10 times over the last day. Everything the animator does is amazing. There’s so much detail and as a fellow artist I don’t think I could pull this off. Even though it’s unfinished, things like petting Scarface, the girl hyperventilating, the endearing facial expressions and hair of the scientists, the expressions/movement/emotion…in 4 minutes they made me fall in love with a villain and I wish this was a whole series now. I like this song because it’s funny, but this backstory is just so incredible. There’s honestly so much skill that goes into this…especially the end where they tie everything back up - with the half monkey monster breaking out, the girl running away, and Scarface following.
But I also especially like the kiss when he passes out. She doesn’t hate him, and it’s nice, because you can’t help feeling bad for the guy.
This is why computer animation can never replace sketch animation. The emotion that goes into this pulls you in and makes you really feel for the characters.
Love this. Total masterpiece. ♥️

This captures the spirit of the song so well - great job, I am glad somebody put the time, love and care into visualizing all the little details and nuances. Corners were cut, that's for sure, but this must've taken a lot of time as it is.

@@chaosmastermind haha he does but it was his hair in his bio photo where he was wearing the labcoat and using a soldering iron that I referenced (just didn't want to make it him persey so just borrowed his hair style and left out the beard lol)
