Hey Jeff, glad to see this Tron. There's no difference between Orion & Gemini other than canopy design correct? All videos are on ILGoblin, sick of seeing those... Like VBar. Like to see what the competition has been up to. 😁
Love watching this thing fly! Its raining, so I cracked open the Nimbus today; sitting down to sorting out parts and laying out the overall manual and plan. I did peek at the Gemini and Nimbus canopy. Gotta give it to team XL for that, they have a better quality and finish than Tron. Clear winner, more durable, stiff, robust. Both going to look great, but early points for XL. Along with the 8s and Egodrift 4030HT, I settled on 17t for the Gemini Pinion. At 2400 headspeed that will be around 79% ESC. I think 1800/2100/2400 will be my three idle settings on the Gemini.
Me too! Such a beautiful Heli. That’s great to hear! Xcel power definitely makes a really nice machine they always have. I like the XL 550 I built a year or so ago I have heard the version two is a lot better quality all around. I haven’t personally seen, built or flown one. 8s is going to be a beast in both of them!
@@westhobbiesrc8051 Oh, only the Gemini is 8s. For the Nimbus I decided Xnova 6s 4025 @1120. Both have MKS HBL880 for tail, HW 150 ESC, Xguard C50 backup and Nexus FC. The Nimbus will have Torq full size BLS 2208 BE cyclic and the Gemini is Torq Mini BLS 1809 on Cyclic. So Motor(6s and 8s) and Cyclic (full size/mini) servos is where they will differ. I was very close to getting Theta in the cyclic for the Gemini, but opted for the 1809's instead.
now were talking...unlike the goblin this baby has no motor belt so we are all good to go and these helis are very stable...swiss made i believe. that truck is very nice :)
Its a mix of Swiss and Chinese partnership. The following story has got two sides, the way I understand it essentially is Tron initially started as a copy in part of Synergy (and some other that doesn't come to mind) and made in same Chinese plant that Synergy used to be fabricated. As for justification of who owns what and why, like I said each side has their backstory. Most people who do care, seem to lean Tron as the villain. Moral of the story tho, pay the lender lest you have your design confiscated. Just or not. Tron has since changed/improved its design in electric to be its own thing, Nitro still pretty much Synergy. I think Synergy is now selling individual parts made in USA to a couple vendors but no kits.
@@viper_six it’s definitely a must have heli! So I’m running my agility at 150 all on three banks and style at 115 on all three banks. 1600-2200-2500 RPM. Gain are pretty much stock setup and 15 degrees of pitch +/- at 1600 and 13.5 on 2200 and 2500 RPM
Also recommended head speed settings. I'm getting back into the hobby after 10 years and forgot everything, radio setup for flight modes, head speeds, etc would be a life saver for peeps like me. Love the vids regardless!
The TRON Orion is so nice. It's a serious heli, that means business. And as stated, it flyes like a 600. But have you ever tested the Tron 580 Herritage? And i would LOVE to se you with a Tron Advance, spec'ed out.
It’s an awesome 550 helicopter! I really do enjoy flying it and lately I have been flying it a ton. Flies like a 600 but that 550 powered to weight ratio on 6s is phenomenal! I would definitely love to build one! Next year, I will probably add something new to the list. I’ll make a poll on a couple options and let everyone decide what gets built.
Do you happen to know the weight to weight comparison between Tron and 580? Is it a weight issue or a gearing and blade combo issue that makes the tron more powerful? (assuming the motors are the same) Thanks Jeff.
@@sheffandjelley I don’t know the weight difference but I’ll definitely look. So the RAW 580 is a 600. Being a 600 on 6s you don’t have the torque which lessons that power to weight ratio feel. The Tron 5.5 actually has a smaller motor 4020 and the RAW 4025. But smaller main blades and smaller heli which has the weight down slightly.
Gemini/Orion Dry weight= 1400 grams without blades and electronics. Tron 5.8 Dry weight= 1530 grams without blades and electronics. You can change gearing on both. Gemini/Orion are 550-560 main blades. Tron 5.8 can do 550-610 On spec sheet, Gemini/Orion do 4020 and 4025 but Ive heard 4030 Egodrift motors also fit. Ill know soon enough as I got 4030 Egodrift for 8s flight. Tron 5.8 is 4020, 4025 or 4225 series. From 1000KV-1350KV for 6s and 560KV for 12S
@@skakamj0lk If you go with Gemini, you can also get 3 different canopy colors. If you opt for Orion, you can pick 4 canopy colors. These extra choices are sold as spare parts separately from the kits. But yes its all down to cosmetic. If you get one and choose later to try the other...just swap out the lower skid frame to whichever canopy style you want.
November and that green?? Wow you are lucky, and i already miss the good weather and wait for the new season, it's cold and windy here, not to mention gray boring look. Btw how much weights this heli with the battery? And also what is the difference between normal Tron 5.5 and Orion?
@@kajuta240 oh yes seems so, i went to their website for the closer info :) thanks. I guess i like the Gemini's frame more, looks more simplimistic :) i wonder if canopies of both Orion and Gemini are compatible?

What started out as a calm & peaceful 1,600rpm helicopter 🚁 flight, suddenly went into beast mode with the flip of a switch 😮
