I like your channel because you don't act like it's an infomercial. Tired of RUclipsrs that say "if you wanna see how this turned out head over to my patreon".
Anyway, I enjoy your channel because you seem to sincerely appreciate your audience and subscribers.
Sometimes its hard taking money when you don't feel your earning it. Your channel is better than most tv shows for me these days. I can see people wanting to pay for that. 🧦 - Dobby approves of this video - 🧦 Here are my 2 socks worth of advice regarding a Patrion. Yes, set one up for anyone who has the means and wants to help your channel, BUT, please don't pigeonhole what the funds are for, it should be a contribution towards the channel, not a project specifically. We all know cameras, batteries, tools, fuel, materials, etc can run wild but you are good with budgeting your resources towards projects as and when required, so use any contribution to help in the ability to progress as you need. I'm just a poor Elf that does not use Muggle money but If anyone does contribute, take it in your heart as a huge thank you for the amazing and entertaining content you provide us all. ❤

I personally may never have a Patreon account but there are many people that are financially stable enough to easily support content creators. There are also people that support creators when they barely have 2 cents to rub together as well.
I’ve seen channels that on the low end of contributions (minimum membership) are bringing in more in a month than what most people make in 6 or more and then you start to see to purchases that have nothing to do with the original premise of the channel.
I’m sure you’ll get people signing up willingly if you start one but then there’s sometimes an expectation that they deserve more because they’re paying for it.
Ultimately it’s your choice Mike but you just need to stay focused on the channel and not go out and buy a monster truck when the money rolls in. 😉

No issue with Patreon Captain. Your viewers appreciate the content and this is just another avenue for subscribers to be a part of the channel. It’s a common practice so go for it.

I learned what Patreon was about five years ago… a young couple was building a log home in Idaho. For about a year they built their off grid home. It was really good content and their channel grew. I felt good that my money was going to help them build their dream home.
As they finished the outside, moved out of their camper trailer and into the unfinished walk-in basement the home construction slowed down.
Then they decided to change direction… first they dug a well. The small solar system couldn’t power it. So, they connected to the grid.
A few months later, the man quit his job to devote full time to their RUclips channel.
The next thing I knew, the male started taking flying lessons… content went from building their dream home to pursuing their new dream of owning a plane. All along I was sending them a small monthly fee.
As soon as they bought the plane they went from twice weekly to twice monthly videos… with constant promises that as soon as they got enough money they would finish the house. And those few videos were all about their plane flights to vacation spots around the N/E US..
Then… the videos stopped being posted… ostensibly because she was pregnant and couldn’t work on the build. I cut my Patreon contributions.
Then I received an e-mail from them that berated me for abandoning them in their time of need.
A couple of months… I saw a “Whatever happened to” video about their channel. It detailed that they had sold the land and unfinished log structure. They used the nearly one million Patreon and RUclips fees to go sight seeing all across the US. Their new RUclips channel promised that beautiful vistas, historical discoveries and all American Adventures would thrill their subscribers and Patrons!
Now, Cap’n I have no belief that you will do anything of the sort.
You do not ask for likes and subscribes… instead you thank us for dropping by in every video. As a result, your gratitude appears to be genuine. If you handle Patreon the same way, I think you stand a good chance of maintaining your viewers loyalty and maintaining your own self esteem.
I hope you go through with it… and have every belief that it will be a success. Good Luck bud!!!
I’ve seen similar things with other channels when they reach a perceived level of success and then quit a 6 figure job to go “full time” with the channel and then soon after start complaining that RUclips made changes that now affect their income.
I know that exact channel. It's one of my fears. I want to grow as a channel, but not abandon the original premise. A tricky thing
Getting Death threats and harassments did not help their Channel either... I was really getting into their build, then it fell apart...
I always say you do you, and others can do the same. I think the key to this whole thing is to remain open and honest and if you are taking 'donations' (Patreon, or whatever) be clear in what you're offering an exchange and meet that commitment (and I have no doubt you would meet whatever commitment you make).
In the end, people are free to do what they want and if they don't feel that the Patreon subscription is worth it they don't have to sign up for it. Making content for people to enjoy is a legitimate business, I don't begrudge successful RUclips channels that run ads and sell merchandise and have Patreon communities or anything of the like. I think where this channel y'all were speaking of, and others like it, go wrong is when they are playing on people's sympathies and maybe taking advantage of generosity by pretending to be something they are not. If you want to make vacation videos and go for it, but don't do that while pretending to need contributions to complete something else that you've walked away from.
Personally, I would love to see a video someday where Captain cleaning announces that he's quit the fire department and is going full-time into the RUclips content business and that is success is such that he will be pursuing other dreams is family has in taking viewers along for the ride. What I am sure would be different in the future case of Captain Kleeman verse this other channel people are talking about is that Captain Kleeman wouldn't be pretending to still be the average Joe pausing projects while the budget is replenished.
Bottom line, do what you want ... that is what I enjoy watching.

I root for and applaud success in social media… but, I want honesty and content that I can relate to. That’s why I never miss one of Cap’n K’s vids.
Having extra cash around for various projects may seem appealing especially when your desire is to complete certain projects Mike but it would make me feel obligated to a certain thing or person. I love watching your "bounce around" content (I never know what is coming up next. LOL) since you have so many "irons in the fire"
You always amaze me, Captain. You're always thinking about your viewers. Some of us do not have the resources for Patriotions and are on a fixed budget. Thank you for understanding some of us. we just can't do it, but that's your choice you can. I know for sure that I will continue watching your channels. Will continue watching. Patreon is not in my budget. You can have a Patreon account for those who wish to send you money but please don’t push it. I hate that on other channels.
I here you Mike, I'm the same way. You don't want to be hold'en to anyone. If you can still make it work with the money coming in from your
RUclips content and that makes it feel better to you, in your heart, then thats the way to go. But, you know as well as any of us know, times are tough.
Is it worth the patreon account, so it makes it easer for you to move along with projects faster, then that is what you might HAVE TOO do.
I'm a retired builder and we all know plastic is only keep the rain out for a short time before things start to go bad. I'm sorry I can't help you in this

I am the same way when it comes to accepting help, but as I have gotten older,I have come to realize that you can't do everything alone.I have subscribed to ALOT of channels on RUclips, but am only a patriot for 2,because I genuinely am entertained by them.What I guess I'm saying is no one is forcing people to join a patrion,patriot, do it because they WANT to. I enjoy your channel tremendously and would join your patriot, simply because almost every time I watch your channel you make me laugh at least once,,and in this day and age a laugh is worth more than a few bucks!

I have no issues with any channel that has a patreon account. That allows those who wish to support a channel financially a route to do that. What I don't care for is when a content creator promotes that patreon in nearly every video. Please set one up for those who would use it, put the information in your "about" section and don't mention it again.
I have lived with giving a helping hand to anyone who needed or was on able to do for them self .
When people ask for your help that great as well . But when you need a hand they come up with excuse after excuses .
I have and always will fell less of myself if I am able to return help or money , I currently have and will .
I have been around a few too many people who have been born with a silver spoon in their mouth , and believe that you owe them and should be handed everything. That said : if you are good or great at what you do in your life you should be rewarded . U Tube pays you because of all the people who watch your interesting and helpful video . Should heaven for bid ; terrible trajectory were to happen to anyone throw no fault of their own , an accident , or just simply bad luck . By all means Yes . Now if there's someone who asks for money or a helping hand with no intentions of needing help so they can live the easy life .
I know you are not that person ! You are using your brains and strength that God gave you to the best of your ability of your abilities .
This decision in the end is yours , this also says something about your life's character .
I agree with everything you wrote. Unfortunately, I cannot send money to all of my favorite channels. I'm a senior and on a fixed income. I would feel guilty about sending to one, and not the others. Also, it makes me sad when they continually thank their benefactors on every video, knowing that it's just impossible for me to do it. I believe that those patrons should be thanked on Patreon, not RUclips.

I enjoy everything you post. I also enjoy your other channel Clemon. Taking time off this channel and spending time with your daughter and letting her have fun and learn is the most important thing a father can do. It's not important what project you are working on it's all great because you are making progress towards your end goal. Keep it coming and I'll keep watching and commenting to help the channel.
The swaying of that boom lift makes you feel like you’re at sea already.

I think the patron comes down to what you want at the end of the day. If you’re not a fan of it then maybe thats not the right choice. I watch a couple live RUclips streamers who sometimes feel like if they dont put on a live stream that they will lose the subscribers then it becomes a job instead of the fun thing they were doing. Also most patron channels try to give extras to those viewers i.e credits at the end of the video or a shout out. Just a suggestion but maybe a live stream once a month where people can drop super chats, with a donation to a favorite project. You have a great channel and your ability to just jump around from project to project seems to keep you happy and motivated on those projects. In the end it up to you and your family. Always love your content all the way back to the dp days.
Being retired and on a fixed income I am not in a position for a patron membership for ANY channel.
I am just being honest.
I will continue to subscribe and comment.
BUT, I also understand YOUR FINANCIAL needs!
I will watch you for as long as I can.
And if being a non-patron means I get a lesser video then I will take what I can get!

I'm good with watching whatever you put out, Mike - and if being a Patreon gets a person to be able to see a video sooner than the rest - that's fine. Hi Mike. That man lift is probably the exact right tool for the job, but in my mind, it was still pretty sketchy. Maybe that's why I don't work in construction. About the Patreon, if there are viewers that want to help out the channel financially, I don't see anything wrong with setting something up so they can do that. Some people are in a place where they can help a fella out and some others won't be. Your channel is growing because you have good content, so I'd say, go with the flow!

At this point, i think you are worth spending a few dollars on Patreon. I have not used Patreon before, but i am willing to spend a few dollars on you Mike. Hey man, if people want to give you money and they feel good about it everyone wins.
Also Wes is good example of a reasonable way to do it. He is doing a great job of using patreon but not being pushy. He takes the time to thank the people that contribute, but doesn't push it to the point that people who don't contribute feel guilty and get alienated.
Sorry Mike some of us are on a tight budget. I although enjoy your videos, keep things the way they are and I'll continue to watch.

i had to use a scissorlift at the plant I worked at for a couple of months during a layoff. Some of us got to stay around a few month doing maintenance stuff which wasn't our actual jobs before the layoff before being kicked to the street . So I and a couple of people were sent out to replace light bulbs. Not bad in the hallways but in the warehouses with the ceilings a million miles in the air the lift swayed waaaay to much for me. Not fun at all. I always had a death grip on the rail. 🤣
What ever you decide however if a person would like to help then maybe allow them that joy. Your content is a pleasure to watch and your honesty is the best.
I for one would be happy to be a Patreon member, watching you and DP and few other channels got my me though some bad times so I'm to pay you back
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, ideas and videos. Nice to see the roof starting to get dried in. DP certainly lucked out in the lift purchase, not bad for scrap, didn’t realize just how tall a lift it was. 😂 Little bit surprised you weren’t using it to survey the neighborhood. As far as the patreon goes. Doesn’t really make sense to skip the contributions if people are happy to share. I personally don’t have the extra to share but if I did your channel would definitely be on the list. I like the sound of channels that have multiple levels of contribution but the same level of benefits no matter what you contribute. Be it $1.00 or $100. People know that the population is suffering and those that are able to share frequently like to help out if they can. I personally think the yearning to give comes from the emptiness that has come from the downplaying of religion in our society as of late. If it makes you feel better, perhaps pass along 10% to whatever personal causes you support. Whatever direction you go it’s your option, I truly appreciate that you are concerned about doing it or not. Bearing that in mind I definitely would not give extra benefits to the patreon because that then causes a club mentality and could possibly hurt the feelings of early channel supporters that aren’t able to participate. I've watched enough Channels change dramatically,when a pay for view is added. But that's totally up to you and your family,,my hope is that I don't feel pushed out of your channel,this has happened to me before and I feel dirty,just because I can't contribute.
But this isn’t pay-per-view it’s do you want to contribute to financially to help the channel grow. You don’t have to if you don’t want to it won’t change the videos you get to see other than he may have more money to be able to do more projects and give us more content to watch.

Mike, money is always a touchy subject with people and there is the fear out there of "beware of scammers". I know your here to grow your channel and Patron can be the next step in doing so. I do subscribe to people that use Patron, but as a non member, I end up seeing "some" of their latest videos a month later (Patron's always get exclusive content and or first content)! Yay, I miss out on some things, but I'm OK with a delay. I know that these folks are dedicated to RUclips as a full-time job! My other subscribers use things like Super Chats or Buy-me-a-cup-of-coffee! This allows you to freely donate at anytime and not worry that you are limited not missing out on any content. For me and don't take it personnel, but I have not found a channel worthy of paying extra for (OK you got me, Netflix is worth it). But there are a few RUclipsrs out there where I don't mind sending some change to on Super Chat , Cup of coffee, donation alerts, etc.
As always Mike, you just amaze me. It is not that I wouldn't do it the same way as you have. But watching someone else do it is satisfying. Brother firefighters need to stick together. Bless you and stay safe. I actually look forward to watching you.

Go ahead and set up a patreon. You are making content for us to watch. That entrails many expenses like cameras and your time as we all know you could complete each project much quicker without haveing to film . It is totally up to each subscriber if they want to join or not. I would not put the funds toward certain projects as the accounting to track what goes where would be a lot of extra work.

If you have to spray ether to start the 555 the rings aren't sealed. You MUST have a perfectly round bore or the rings won't seal. We tried rings without boring the block, it won't work. The engine needs to be removed and a correct rebuild needs to be done; boring the block and installing sleeves. Sometimes just boring an old block will end up with pinholes in the bore from the water jackets.

I watch and love all your videos (both channels). I would love to support you with Patreon, but couldn't afford it to the level it would make a difference. I'd be interested to hear how watching the RUclips "commercials" helps the creator. I seem to recall that there is some kind of incentive for every 5 seconds a spot runs it helps. That may be totally off.
Too many You Tubers who have Patreon and other "membership" programs seem to end up with an airline-like class system, with exclusive bonus programming footage unavailable to the regular "economy class". That tier system has to put more work on the channel creator. I do like your idea of a means to direct donations to specific projects, e.g., giving the 555 a floor and paint job😊. By the way, you and Neil Koch are tied as my favorite RUclips channels....and thanks for asking for viewer opinions.
