Appreciated as always mate. Coincidentally I just posted a new video on copying and pasting within InDesign if it helps… Stop InDesign Pasting Multi Layer Content on Single Layer ruclips.net/video/S4zlGj1M1TE/видео.html
@@MichaelBullo will check it out… I’m still having one issue when pasting .. no matter which preference I use it will still paste with the formatting off the website .. so will check out your video and see if that resolves it
@@denhamk I would have hoped all formatting would have been stripped out using what I showed in the video. If I'm ever having issues like this I'll use a simple text editor as an in-between step. I'll paste into a program like Notepad or TextEdit (in Plain Text mode) that can't support formatting. I'll then select and copy that text and paste it into the final program such as InDesign. A convoluted process no doubt but it works.
Your video is very good, it showed me how to enable the "paste without formatting" function. Thank you. However, when I copy the formatted text and paste it into InDesign "without formatting", it removes several features, but leaves the second and third level numbering (Removing only the first level ones) which generates a conflict in inDesign... Is there a way to get it to also remove the second and third level numbering when pasting raw? I'm working in InDesign 20 24 and I generated the text in Pages 13.2. Thank you!
Thank you. That is a very odd problem that you have and I don't have any experience with it. One thing I often do when I want to simplify text and strip out formatting is to paste into a basic text editor. I will then select and copy that text and paste it into the final program.
In InDesign 2024, this isn't working. I changed the settings as you describe and it's STILL won't paste the formatting with my text from Photoshop. A bug in 2024?
@@MichaelBullo I have a question, every time I paste something into my text boxes, the words disappear. Like it's still there, but I can't see it. Do you know how to fix that?
@@adainisart246 A few thoughts... It's possible that you had a ridiculously large font size set. The text is getting pasted but not even a single letter can be displayed. With a text box selected, from the Edit menu choose "Edit in Story Editor". This will open up another window which shows the content of the text box. It will even show you the text that can't fit (Overset text). Do you see a red plus sign icon in the lower right corner of the text box? This is InDesign's way of identifying overset text.
When I follow your instructions, and copy and paste from a rtfd document, the typeface and point size are maintained, but italics, bold, and color are lost.
@@MichaelBullo If I paste into Microsoft Word, all of those attributes are retained. In fact, I was going to use Microsoft Word rather than InDesign, until I found out that Microsoft Word has a limit to the number of text boxes that can be linked. Full disclosure: I'm using very old versions of both programs on an old system.
@@JohnAMozzer The old software could be your issue. I recommend posting on the Adobe InDesign forum and mention the specific versions that you are using. It's also possible to place a Word file into InDesign. You may have more luck retaining formatting using that method. Best of luck.
Open up Find/Change from the Edit menu. In the Text tab, click in the empty box in the "Find Format" section. In the "Basic Character Formats" tab change the "Font Style" to Bold. This option is sticky, meaning it will remain the next time you open Find/Change. So be sure to click on the Trashcan icon to clear this when you are done with it.
Yea. I can build them in InDesign. I have an old pdf with a long list of text with each line has different link/url. So far, after pasting into InDesign, no matter what link I click on, they all go to one url instead what each line had in the old pdf. I’ve already started to retype each line individually and adding links/urls manually. Was trying to avoid that. Lol. Thanks for your help though. I appreciate it. Happy New Year!!🎊🎈🎆
