On top of the Ohtani situation, the Angels really did themselves a disservice by not trading him. Mike Trout has been out for two months. They are not winning. They haven’t won anything with those two players. They bought at the trade deadline to compete with the Rangers, Astros & Mariners. And that didn’t work & look at them now. They set themselves back for a few years. Wasted money on Anthony Rendon, stuck with Mike Trout on a huge contract and he’s slowly on the decline. And now Ohtani is gonna be a free agent and they most likely won’t bring him back because the team is poorly constructed.
As someone with no vested interest in the Angels franchise, it's honestly been mostly sad and disappointing how utterly the organization has failed to build around trout, and now we're starting to see the same thing with Ohtani. I hope Ohtani gets out tbh, and I agree that refusing to trade him just hurts the Angels in the long run, which is basically right in line with their track record, as an organization.
