9:56 Andrew did you change your wallpaper on your computer to the flat Earth society logo on purpose just to see if any of your viewers would notice when you panned your camera there for half a second? If so I got you
@thecommunistpotato it wasn't until recently that i was able to go, because of financial problems, but I was offered 80 percent of my tuition to be covered, so I applied.
Hey andrew, I love this weekly physics vlog. You are showing how physics phd students works abroad. In the Philippines we are different, we have to finish Masters first before going to PhD. I also dreamt to be a PhD student outside our country. Please continue this Gradschool Phlog. Goodluct to our grad school (Masters in my case) journey.
I'm not even majoring in physics( have to take 2 intro physics courses tho) and I have to say I really look forward to and enjoy watching your videos. Your passion for what you are studying just radiates through your videos. You're a true inspiration, man. Keep it up.
2 things: watching this i almost feel insanely motivated to go do my homework on the definitions of a limit. And since youre a TA, i can actually now imagine the daily lives of the TA’s here at my university. I also did the same type of lab experiment last semester. We collided pucks then we did momentum calculations with the video we took. So far studying physics has been quie awesome. This semester my prof is the particle physics head and also the HOD for physics, and he’s showed us things like how the particle accelerator works at tuks.
Late to this since I some how had a final due already. But I love this! This accurately depicts grad student life and I cannot wait to see more vlogs. Anyone considering grad school should definitely watch this and future ones to really get an idea of what grad life is like and how different it really can be from undergrad
Doing weekly vlogs is a GREAT idea!! Vlogs are enjoyable to watch hahahaha such as paige and Holly's vlogs. Keep it up! Can't wait to watch your vlogs too 😁
Hey Andrew, Loved the vlog. Keep up the great work! I noticed that you got some new wipes, but just wanted to let you know about some other whiteboard markers that I've been using for a while now and like a lot better than the Expo ones. They are Pilot V-Board masters. I find that they erase much better and I rarely use spray to clean my board. They're also refillable which is a fantastic plus.
Thank you so much for this video! I am about to go to grad school in a very different program but just seeing what your schedule and workload is like is really helpful
Good luck ailey! If you have any questions about grad school, feel free to send them our way too. Our Oxford crew of physicists are now reaching out to help the youtube community. :)
The end of your video where you go into the dessert was completely unpexted. I thought the amount of work had gotten to you for a minute and you had just decided to depart from civilazion for a bit. It was such a weird rabbit hole train of thought. Love the video.
I know why you kept bringing up that you didn’t have homework. I do it all the time. It’s because deep down you truly couldn’t believe that you didn’t have anything.
Love these vlog style videos. Think I found my new favorite Andrew Dotson style vids. I've really been thinking about making some sort of physics related channel myself. I love solving problems, and I've been thinking of maybe having some sort of problem solving channel. Such as working through the infamous Griffiths E&M problems or Quantum mechanics stuff and talking through step by step solutions to help out other students. While there are written solutions for many textbook problems online, Its always nice to have a voice behind that and explain the math in more detail.
Hey Andrew! You talked about good resources for Quantum Mechanics. Can you please list some. I am an undergraduate and Quantum Mechanics is round the corner.
@@imvk9696 Shankar! After that read Schiff. And after that read Sakurai. You should then be ready for QFT. Another great book is Messiah for historical and more classical info. Another superb elementary Intro to Quantum Mechanics is by Dicke and Wittke - out of print and very hard to find. Good luck and Best wishes!
I also am constantly swamped with stat mech homework. I vaguely relate to your struggle. Have you read Thermal Physics by Schroeder? It's at an undergrad level, but it's a good book on stat mech.
I really enjoyed this style and vlog type!! One suggestion I have tho is when you cut to a new day, put that it the transition. Another one, maybe a little trickier, is to have time stamps when you cut to different scenes so that we get a feel to how your day is progressing Otherwise, amazing job!!!
Hey Andrew, I'm going to be starting my first year in grad school this September. I'm not currently in school so I have 6.5 months that I can use for preparation, and I'm sure I will be taking E&M, stat mech, and quantum. Any tips for how I can use my time wisely?
With such a packed schedule, when do you get time to relax? And how do you spend that time? I wonder if you ever fall into those youtube blackholes and get stuck watching random stuff!? I'm very curious :\
Just a suggestion Andrew, maybe change the title to something more appealing like "Life of a Physics Student" to gain more traction. I know you don't do this for the views, but catchier titles usually result in more clicks. People love "Day in life of X Student" videos.
Um, a little late here. I feel a part of Stat Mech is in sync with Monte Carlo methods. Alistair Sinclair's notes were quite helpful while studying Monte Carlo simulations.
Question about labs as a senior high school srudent. I see data collection is about an hour but I would like to know how much time you provide them to write the final lab report. Also side question, how much labs do you have to write in a semester? Finally you look like a cool TA
"I forgot how forgetful I am." -Andrew Dotson
For a minute I thought you were in India
😂😂immigrants
Me also
There does not exist any graduate physics program in the US which does not have international students from India and China.
Don't forget our dope ass gradstudents from nepal
Where all the italians and spaniards at
Literally half of our masters programmes are from southern europe
India + China make up 36% of the world's population

A student running away from Assignment..Are you a graduate student... really??
Yeah this has to be the first time anyone's ever done that ever
@EpicMathTime hahaha
Boltzman did more than bang his head against a wall for statistical mechanics, so I'd say you're doing alright!
ROASTED BOLTZMANN
Woah
Im not even a physics major lol I just enjoy these vlog style videos. Keep it up!
That's some creepy ass username

I really like the editing style you decided on - it looks really great
Thanks a lot!
Just applied to college. Chose physics as my major cus of you bro.

Hmm I don't trust that Abishek guy. Looks like a real wildcard. A real loaded gun, that one.
That sounds like a norm joke lol
Loved the video. Grad school looks both highly stressful but really enjoyable at the same time. I find it cool how you get your own office space😄
I'm really enjoying the new 3 videos a week format! You seem to have the life of my dreams apparently. Keep up the good content!
I was procrastinating all day but after watching you, you finally made me a productive boi

I'm so happy that you're doing vlogs! Glad you're finding a groove with this new schedule!
This is really cool, I wasn't sure what was going to happen with the content shift, but I am now really pleased about it!

I am from Dominican Republic, looking forward to start a Physics PhD next year, and definitely a new sub, I hope to see more of your content
Although I do miss the daily uploads, this makes up for it. Keep it up Andrew!

12:13 a glimpse at the advanced maths that physicists have started using lately.. the fundamental theorem of engineering...
So excited for this phlog! You’re one of my favorite youtubers. Keep up the good work bud

I extra-recommend the Greiner Book! Its the best one for Stat Mech, i used it and it was the best book i've ever used
I was thinking about doing this but for undergrad... I'll be starting in the fall semester.

When you make the cuts, can you add the screen transition and sound from Super Mario World III? It'd make it easier to follow.

I really like the weekly vlog format. Looking forward to more.
Everybody has bad hair days. Andrew has good hair days 😂
Awe thanks, I know
Already a fan of your weekly vlogs!
Is Andrew wearing a utility kilt and a tribal double wolf shirt, all while sporting a pony tail of fiery red hair? Thats a roller coster of styles.
This is so awesome! I love the phlogs!

Can anyone please tell me what was the song that was being played in between?

I went to grad school in physics at Washington State between 1990 and 1992, before you were born I would imagine. :)

Your office is nicer than mine.. all first year's are in the same room, about 20 people. Good and bad.
