  • Somewhat astonishingly, December the 9th saw the last day of operation of the Class 68 hauled services on TPE routes. This video is a small compilation of my footage of them in recent times. A real shame seeing these go and a true testament to the railways of today.

At video start, is it beeping from the control car or the class 68 ? Does the control car have a horn ?

It has been great to see loco-hauled expresses back on the TransPennine Line.

Excellent compilation of the TPX Nova 3 Sets With Class 68’s. It’s really scandalous that they have been sidelined after such a short period in Traffic and all the money wasted on building them.

Won't know whether the money has been wasted until we see what happens to them.

Just imagine residents living next to a railway, deciding to live next to a railway, complain about noise.
This noise is the sound of work being done, jobs being had, getting it done

Love these locos. For sound drama, I think they're a modern day Deltic.

Thank you for sharing the video. Yes it is a great shame buy cheaper from already problematic train builders with tax payers money and giving the structural problems a direct refusal to get it fixed due to shortage of staff. Britain's railway system chosen the easy way as always out of London transport system, specially in the North. I bet Stadler, Siemens and Alstom had much better Push-Pull train sets as seen in central Europe on Railjet for instance. Well, let's see whats next for this sets that i think will have new opportunities elsewhere and fixed.

TPE are not losing a ton of money here as they only lease the stock! In the long run, they will probably be better off if they are of limited use to the company? TPE would have looked into this for sure, and a large power loco uses a lot of fuel, and if you can't get the staff to drive them, they are of little use?
From a train enthusiasts point of view this is disastrous of course?
