- Join this brand new Class 68 with Mk5A coaches on it run from Scarborough. As it ran on the Up Main through Colton Junction, I’ve included that too. Plenty of delightful countryside and if you like big diesels, you’ll love the soundtrack too.
Don - I’ve been watching your videos from Australia for months now - and have to say they are the best cab view vids on YT. Your added comments on the drivers’ skills and processes and meticulous historical research are what sets them apart. I love local hauled trains - I used to love the 50s and 47s that dragged the Hereford-London route which was my local line - and so this brought back happy memories. Thanks for all your efforts in making such quality experiences - like many I’m very impressed - and grateful.
Getting the footage can take a lot of time and effort but comments like this make it all worthwhile. I really appreciate it Tim.
You’re also a great ambassador for your employer too - so I hope they pleased with all the positivity you generate (and I acknowledge their contribution in allowing you to film these great videos).
Beautifully filmed and highly informative. A real delight to watch. Thank you very much.
We’ve got some more coming soon.
Thanks again Don for all the time and effort you put in when producing these fantastic videos .
Very welcome Paul, thank you.
The acoustic insulation on the class 68 is amazing considering there is a V-16 CAT purring and sometimes growling away just a few feet behind the cab. Fantastic video.
Thanks Steve. It is acceptable in the 68 cab but there is no forgetting that engine is on the other side of the bulkhead door.
@Don Coffey
Still it seems to be much quieter than Traxx diesel which is quite something.
I love the response time on this Diesel engine Don. You can hear the clicks on the notches on the throttle and the instant speed at which the motor responds. What a ride.
Yes, it was in good hands too. Steve knows how to get the best from them.
@@doncoffey5820 There was a 68 stopped just short of Batley signal box at the new signal on the down line the other day. Quite a sound as she opened up. Think there may have been an axle counter failure in the tunnel so it was there a while.
Fantastic video on a mostly familiar line. Glad the Class 68/Mk5A sets are keeping the loco hauled action alive. Like the 125 HST's, what I consider 'proper trains', it makes the journey that bit more special in my humble opinion.
Thanks for the informative videos. 👍
Very welcome.
Really nice to see the 68 in active service. That is one good looking machine. Your on-screen comments/information are as good as gold as always. Gives usa wider view of the work of a train driver, and he has the best view of any office in the world. Prove me wrong!
I can’t! I consider myself very lucky to have this job! Glad you enjoyed it.
Great video don I love how you have the real sounds unlike other cab view videos
Yes, I think it’s important for the best effect 👍
As usual, Don, another interesting and informative video. It is a privilege to be able to sit in the cab and see so much. It is good that people all over the world can see parts of my beautiful native county of Yorkshire. You mentioned the word “riding”, it simply means a third, hence the three tidings. (Not counting Winifred Holtby’s South Riding!)
Yes I had a little read about the ridings when I was researching it. Interesting stuff.
Had the pleasure traveling on the 68 from Manchester to Leeds yesterday, a very comfortable journey!
Yes, quite nice. I had a ride on a 802 the other day which was also nice.
I love going back to watch these !!
I occasionally look back at them myself Tim. I don’t get chance at the time of launching them.
Wonderful video. Love the countryside .the driver gets to see the four season of the year .better than stuck on a motorway .
And Chris, I’ve never appreciated the seasons so much since joining the railway. It looks different every day.
Thanks for the video. A very enjoyable watch and sound
Love it. Nice to see my neighbour hood from this perspective. Thank you, especially for the accompanying text/Markers
My pleasure Stevie. Glad you enjoyed it.
This is my favorite British cab video channel on RUclips ! Thanks for your work :)
Very flattering, thank you.
I really enjoyed this journey many thanks for providing it
SUPERB video.. Love these class 68's
Hello Arsene, glad you enjoyed it. I think you are a “regular” now!!
I saw one of these units in Scarborough in April. Beautiful things! Looking forward to travelling on one.
I was once on a 5-coach train behind a Deltic with a sporty driver. It seems the good old days are coming back again! Thanks for the great video.
What a trip down memory lane, I at one time lived 5mins walk from Cross Gates station,I now live in OZ lol..Keep up the good work.......Thank you !!!!!!!
Thanks Noel.
Looking forward to this one, Don!!👍🏼
Very interesting indeed and relaxing too.I travel this route regularly Scarborough to York but good to see the front view for once.
I'm a loco driver in Hungary, and I've always dreamt of driving these British locos. My dream is halfway through because my company owns old BR Class 86 and Class 56 locos that I get to drive, however, I'm still wondering if I could get a job as a driver in England.
Great video anyway, and very informative!
Put it this way, the train companies can’t get enough drivers. If you look at the local operating company at the area you like, you can register with them. Don’t bother with the national operators as they rarely start new intake drivers, they just cherry pick experienced drivers.
Do you drive routes crossing borders? Some really amazing journeys to enjoy around Europe, happiest times ever.
don, i keep trying with northen and never get passed the maths test but its not even normal maths
Very enjoyable you always go the extra mile with your added information
Thanks Peter, much appreciated. 👍
Always relaxing, always informative. Thank you for uploading Mr. C.
Much appreciated.
Another great video! Thanks again Don
Great video thanks for making it so interesting.
First class video again Don very enjoyable, that class 68 engine sound gives you every confidence of its capabilities, loved the line about bold drivers and old drivers, that took me back somewhat, stay well in these difficult times.
Glad you enjoyed it Keith.
I really enjoyed this ride, Thankyou Don :)
Thanks for this. Scarborough to York line is one of my favourites
Fantastic content and information Don a true insight in to one of the things that make this country great, our amazing railway network. Keep it up Don.
Another great production. My number one station York. Many thanks.
Love the sound of the engine.
Great video as always thank you
That was one of the informative videos i have watched latley and thank you . I used to live iv Leeds but now live in Macduff N/E Scotland, yes i enjoyed that.
Great video. Love the sound of the 68.
Excellent video, it's the first one of these ""cab ride videos I've had the patience to watch from beginning to end, the comments pointing out the various track infrastructure and the adjacent buildings &etc. make it almost as good as the real thing, keep 'em coming 👍👍👍
Another very interesting journey, thank you for all the hard work you put into making it so good.
Thank you very much BE.
Another excellent cab ride video thanks. Spent a few days in York during summer doing the 68's to Scarborough. As a Merseysider I look forward to the day they become regular visitors to Liverpool again instead of just one departure at 6.54am.
There’s a question mark on what the 68s will do. A number of them will migrate to a new service to Cleethorpes but luckily for you, it starts at Lime St.
Thanks Don another masterpiece.
Thanks as always Keith.
Hi Don. Loved the video and appreciate all the time you took to caption it with your route and area knowledge. I was born, raised and still live in Scarborough so I know the station and it's surrounding area very well, but it has changed so much since my childhood days sat on Westwood wall opposite Falsgrave signal box watching the excursion trains come in and the daily goods coming out of Falsgrave tunnel...now long gone.
Once again Don great video and information. Really enjoyed and thanks for all the hard work putting it together. Love the class 68.
Cheers David.
Thanks Don for another very informative video. Very interesting as usual.
Glad you enjoyed it.
A journey I would otherwise have never seen or enjoyed! Really glad I found this! Good work! And thank you!
I’m glad you found us!
Found memories off that town with family holidays . Used to travel down from Edinburgh in the 70s Behring a class 40 and a rake off MK1s. Great to see loco hauled traffic back
Sounds excellent Scott.
Great trip Don. Thanks for producing this video and the information you gave us along the way. Most enjoyable.
Thanks John. More soon.
Just had this video recommended in the sidebar - thanks RUclips! Amazing. 👍 Saw a bunch of Driver's Eye View DVDs in a charity shop a few months ago... left to take out some money and by the time I'd got back, they'd already sold them! Still stings. 😅
Oh well, these videos are free to watch and not only that, by tolerating an advert, you donate to charity every time. I donate 100% of the revenue every month.
Just a short question Don, would it be possible to include a short section standing behind the driver so that we can all appreciated the skills of driving & operation of the controls.
Absolutely brilliant video top class! 🙂 Lots of interesting facts about the route some i knew some I'd forgotten, live between Strensall and York can hear the 68s in my lounge that's with good double glazing! Once again thank you for the journey
Cheers Bob, glad you enjoyed it.
Great video again Don, your efforts are appreciated. 👍🙂
Thanks. Very much down to Steve Hill who organised it for me.
That was a super fine video, I thoroughly enjoyed it and thank you to everyone involved in the making of it. Cheers.
Thanks Andrew.
What a superb video. Thank you for your efforts.
My pleasure David.
Thank you Sir, for posting this awesome video. I come from Germany and therefore, being a country of mostly electric trains, we no longer have the pleasure to listen to diesel power on rails. Railways in England, for me that is mostly the Heathrow Express to London, a nice EMU but nothing to be compred with these trains. Keep on riding and filming and thanks again
Thats very kind thank you. I spent much time in Germany before I joined the railway. I worked for a company in Bad Camberg.
We still have the Br218's thrashing through Baden-Württemberg, which make a nice change from the (admittedly very nice) Electric units that provide much of the services here.
Brilliant Don. great videos and looking forward to the next trip :)
Working on it!
Great to see the eyeview! Love Class68's
Thanks again for a great video.
Nice video, Leeds is such a cool station
Thank you Don for this. Great that you are sharing with annotations - very interesting. Those class 68 locomotives are beasts from the sound of it. They hardly break a sweat!
Amazing things Neil. I’ll be filming from 397s and 802s soon too.
Thanks Don, another super video with fantastic information on the whole route also a big thanks to Steve for his driving. Glad to see you over came the camera problem with the sloping screen. Thanks again.
Great video with explanations - Brilliant Don... Keep up the good work..
Cheers Anthony.
Not only good, fabulous! Thank you so much. thank you for the video but also for your descriptions and information.
Thanks Peter. I think you’ve seen them all!
Another excellent edition Don, ever more informative. What a fabulous station York is!
It warrants a little walk round it to appreciate the detail Colin. I’ll try and add some photos to the Middlesborough run when I edit it.
Awesome power. Thank you for the upload Don.
Much appreciated 👍
Beautiful summer weather !
Great Video Mate, Love The Class 68s
Awesome train videos that you provide and producing fantastic views on the front of the train cab !👍😎
Thanks Alex. Glad you like them.
A great experience..love your wry sense of humour..
Thanks Les. It gets me into trouble at times ;-)
Another great video. Thanks very much and keep 'em coming please!
Plenty more to come.
Terrific video & Steve is a great driver. New equipment's a real step up. Thanks!
Oh don’t tell him that ;-). Oh alright then, yes he is good, they actually take a bit of handling those things.
I love an engine that sounds just as powerful as it is, a true leviathan. Thanks for the video once again Don, looking forward to more :)
Working on it Adam.
Thanks for a great video & I find the commentary very informative, keep up the great work, also pass on thanks to the guys that help you achieve these 🚄🚆🚄🚆
Thanks Peter and thanks for acknowledging the guys. I can’t do these videos without their help.
Another great video Don, really appreciate your work in making these available.
Thanks, much appreciated.
really good ! ;) i love the middle lands of england !
Thank you for these videos. You take me to places I can't go to in person.
There was a time I would have cheerfully given up an important body part for a ride on the main line and only much allowed me to do it. This way and with the help of these train companies, I’ve been allowed to share the experience.
Excellent, can't wait for your next one.
Yet another fantastic video, thank you Don.
Hi Drew. Thanks!
Excellent ,as always ! Nice one Don !!
Thanks to you as always too Jasper.
Great video. Thanks.
nice train cab ride, nice sharing , greetings new friend
Greetings to you too 👍
Just started the run, and had to look up Caterpillar Locomotive Diesel, and as I suspected, EMD (now Cat) two-stroke. What a sweet sounding motor.
I used to watch all the Deltic vids I could find. What a beast.
They are not popular with the residents - you can hear them miles away.
Another great vid Don. I see these new sets go past my house at Church Fenton. They sound fantastic!
Another top video Don, thank you. I eagerly await your next one. Cheers :)
The next one is in production James. Do you follow my community page?
Another hit. Don! Thanks to your tireless work , we (of a certain age!) can all vicariously live our dreams of becoming an engine driver!
Haha, the biggest age group of the audience is in the 65+ group which is 24%. I’m in the next one down at 55-64 which is 16% but I’m nearer the top than the bottom - I’ll soon be in the biggest group. I’ll drive trains a bit longer yet. I’ve just passed my annual medical and the rules exam so all good!
Enjoyed this very much. Splitting the screen, I followed it on Google Earth. Thankyou Don for doing these excellent videos.
I’ve started adding maps on latest videos!
Many Thank's yet again Don and all those that helped make this excellent Video
Thanks Les, they will see your comment.
Another super enjoyble video Don. I must say I was surprised at how quite the 68 is in the cab. Many thanks for your efforts and sharing. Cheers, Bob
It might come across as quiet Bob but you are perfectly aware its there ;-)
I love your vids! Wish we had passenger service here in Canada as good as yours "over there." Def won't be in my lifetime! All the best to you!
Much appreciated Murray.
Superb, thanks Don.
Thanks as always RWM
Superb thanks,i go from Malton-Scarboro ret often but haven`t yet been on the 68,great video
Before so long, you won’t get a choice Simon. I hope you enjoy it.
Excellent video as always, thank you. Please pass on my thanks to the rest of the team and management who help you to make it all happen.
Thanks and will do. I couldn’t do them without their help.
Don I really enjoy your videos! Keep up the good work, and be careful out there !!
Will do, thanks Bruce.
many thanks for this wonderful video went many times to scarbrough born in guiseley regards john
Glad it brought back memories for you.
Catching up watching you videos. Best one yet.
More on the way 808.
Fantastic - and so very informative. Thank you. I saw this loco being trialled out as I waited on my bicycle at Howsham crossing, I think it was last summer? The signalman told me all about it. I cycle around the area a lot, but today I followed your video on my indoor bike.
That’s it Matty. They are nearly all in fixed formations but they do occasionally run light engine when needed.
Nice one Don, just love the sound of the engine.
Yes, they are quite vocal aren’t they!
Been looking forward to this all day, another great video Don really enjoyed it.
Cheers Marc - thanks.
+10 Bonus points for hitting the bird!
It happens frequently unfortunately.
Thanx, Don ......... your comments made for a first class trip !!!
Another good video Don and goes through Haxby where I live, thank you.
WOW, best one yet Don. Truly exceptional. Got to love those CATS 😁
Impressive aren’t they.
The National Railway Museum at York is an absolute must visit for all rail enthusiasts and everyone else.
One of my sons went there with some of his friends early this year. He normally has no time for railways but he said he enjoyed the visit
I went there a few years ago. One of the best days I've had for a long time.
