I think the creative benefit to the product that Vince Russo had fizzled out by the time we got to the middle of 1999, and a lot of the undercard stuff was a preview for his wcw work. The wwf was lucky they had great top stars.
Personally i lover the attitude era overall but I think its undeniable that the product got WAY better in 2000 thanks to the work of benoit, angle, jericho, eddie, and the improved tag division centered around the dudleys, hardys and e&c

    •  4 года назад +3

Bruce Prichard said that Jeff was fine before the match. Then he disappeared and got high and they found him just as the match was starting. The v.i.p's were having a discussion about what to do when Jeff walked out when his music was playing while they had their backs turned. Then they told Bishoff to go tell Sting and the ref to just end it asap.

I remember this Raw, i thought it was one of the best in recent memory. I gotta disagree with the Acolyte segment though. That was the first time Ron Simmons and Bradshaw broke out of the strong zombie like enforcer gimmick and started developing what would become the APA gimmick. IIRC Bradshaw said something like “I’ve proven I can out drink you, don’t make me prove I can outfight you.” This was the first time these two were able to show personality on the show and it worked. I think we might have even gotten our first “Damn!” out of it. Based on the context of their character development, I move that down should be changed to an up.

PG Miller strikes again on Retro ups and downs. Yeah the chair shots/violence was extreme and the overly sexualised stuff was over the top and cheesy but that was a huge part of the attitude era. Can’t go marking them down by today’s bothered by everything, can’t say anything to anyone standards. That’s why wrestling struggles to get over these days. Goes to show even big parts of the attitude era wouldn’t get over in this day and age. It’s also why so much of what happens in wrestling today gets so much hate. The companies can’t seem to win whatever they do

I honestly believe that, between the internet and social media, wrestling became way too transparent. The majesty of pro wrestling was the mystery and secrecy.

Agree completely. After reading countless autobiographies & watching so many documentaries it certainly exposes the in ring stories. If Vince was younger he would've reacted to this & come up with a plan to make wrestling more interesting.

Putting my hat in the ring for Great American Bash 1988. One reason is to watch Simon's head melt down trying to explain The Tower Of Doom Match but mostly because you have good ol' JR and Tony Schiavone calling an event together THIRTY TWO years ago! And not only are they back calling shows weekly together, they're calling matches with Tully Blanchard and Arn Anderson in! Crazy. Plus Flair and Luger with dodgy finish main event. Top stuff with some lunacy thrown in

Suggestion for next week - RAW 25th March 2002! The first ever WWE Draft. Flair the GM of RAW vs Vince the GM of SmackDown. Give us the draft buzz going into Smackdown the next week. Let’s up those downs

Simon Miller should have a monopoly of every list-based RUclips channel. Dude is a natural, he can make anything sound entertaining no matter how drab or rubbish it was. Big props to Simon for carrying the WhatCulture scene 💪 Protect him at all costs!
