This one is a great example of a turbo that has been oversped and has overloaded the thrust bearing. A really common failure point on all K03 and K04 turbos. The only way to prevent this is to upgrade to a larger thrust collar and bearing!

I didn't know any of that (and I know stuff too). This is all going on my resume I've been under pressure to learn the ins and outs of turbos. I clearly see how damage like that blows. People are always buying cheap turbos and wonder why they blow up. For one , very expensive turbos have been hot tempered AND cryogenic tempered and then ceramic peening .
Cheap ones are made of pig aluminum full of impurities .
And let’s face it, at least 80% of people don’t know what they’re doing.
Here in Canada you can modify and tune your TRACK car all you want but not your road car because it’s dangerous to everyone else driving 150+ mph
Borg Warner is not as high quality as they make out , especially the ones built in China

Can you tell us please: this K04 is it an OEM as you can found on a Golf R mk6 or is aftermarket we can found everywhere ?
