@@gryphon1342 Not sure... I was pretty sure I wanted to be a sniper when I got into Airsoft, and I have been a sniper for a couple of years. And I love it!
Second opinion to go with that. My secondary is my immediate last resort or when my rifle does go empty (Avoid doing that if you can help yourself) Don't spend cheap on your secondary it will bite you later if you go to it a lot. Make sure you have a good holster. Safariland, Blackhawk (Omnivore), or Reputable Kydex companies. You spend this much money on your gun but you spend cheap on the holster? Never makes sense. Good video Eric.
Ew, Blackhawk... Jokes aside, it's fine for airsoft. However, Blackhawk has a bad rep among gun owners for a variety of issues. Would recommend searching up what's wrong with it if you want to know more. You won't find me using it though
Harshhaze The SERPA is a terrible design for a million reasons. I don’t even recommend it for airsoft. The Omnivore is still not a great holster compared to lots of other options, but it’s at least not unsafe!
Coming from ghillie sniper, the sniper rifle and pistol both get about the same amount of kills some games, but my stock TM Mk 23 usually gets more kills.
Upgrade the Mk23 to make it a literal hand cannon. You'll be getting hits accurately to about 50 yds and it'll be more effective than the sniper rifle as MED isn't an issue unless your running heavy BBs.
Jan Procházka I’m just putting it out there, I use pistols but I only carry the 1 mag in the gun when using it as a secondary. I use two pistols, one i use a secondary (glock) and one when I use pistols as a primary (hi capa).
Where I play you can use your primary in buildings and have no range limit but we do have the same gun hit rules, if your primary gets hit you must switch to your secondary
TheDoctorPretzel I think our field has it so no one gets pissed, the house area has hallways like 1-2 feet wide so I think that something with a higher fps (usually rifles) isn’t needed. It’s even probably even a hindrance.
I had a pistol in my first game and i never thought about running without it, not only is it great to have if you get into feeding issues or anything else but its just really fun and effective to clear buildings with a sidearm, you can also hold a grenade in your hand while wielding a sidearm
Loving your informative contents! As a GBBR user myself, a secondary is quite important. I think I'm using my secondary more often than others on my field who's using AEGs or other fancy stuffs. Secondary draw helps a lot when I'm out of bb/gas. But I do agree that people should prioritize safety gears first rather than going for a secondary. It's also more likely that a GBBR/bolt-action sniper user is not a new player, so in that case, go for a good secondary.
Out of everything airsoft related that I own, my Dye i5 is by far the best purchase I have made. My m4 is second, but I 100% agree on eye protection, cant use any gun if you cant see 🤷♂️👍
Could you guys make an actual review here with pros and cons? I'm really debating if it's worth all that money (that I don't even have yet) or I should go the usual glass and mouth protection way again. LAB Speedsoft Team I have the AF blue dye i4 and I agree with what you said. I went from glasses and a mesh to it solely for the fogging problem and ear protection. One of my best purchases
I break all the things so having a back/secondary is a must. I look for 2 things in a new pistol, parts support so I can upgrade and repair as necessary, and ammo capacity.
1) I use a GBBR AK (GHK, duh) as my main primary airsoft weapon system. GBBR mags hold the realistic amount of ammunition to the actual weapon system. when it goes down, either my mag goes black and have no time to reload or I get a bb jam, I have to resort to my secondary to survive a firefight. For most walk on skirmish games on the weekends, I rarely if never use it. In certain situations, I would switch to my secondary to run because it allows me to quickly adapt my playstyle to win the game. 2) I would highly recommend heavily investing ($150 to $200) in a secondary and equipment for it if you are going to an MSW or AMS event. 3) For starting Airsoft, a secondary should be the last replica you buy (unless you are a speedyboi designing a expensive pistol built). You should invest in a good starter gun, like a Specna Arms M4, and good eye and or face protection because medical bills are expensive and you have only 1 pair of eyes. The next investments after that should be either a better replica, upgrades for your current replica, or a vest for holding extra ammunition. Before i switched from AEGs to GBBRs, I NEVER had to use my secondary. 4) Coming from a military background (my own personal experience), regular enlisted are almost NEVER issued secondaries because in at least 99% of the combat situations we are presented our primary usually does the job better.
THrowing in my 2cents as a Grendadier. I keep a sidearm on me for a specific reason. My local field is indoor outdoor trasition and if my squad goes in doors, while my m4 is 350FPS complient, I either run out of mags fast or not get a good angle to aim. So when I go indoors if I am not breaching with my m203, I immedialy drop the rifle and transitiion to my sidearm. For anyone wondering what my sidearm is, I run an Army Armament 1911. I have 2 one with a tac rail for my modern setup and one without the tac rail for my vietnam loadout
I would thoroughly say yes a secondary is necessary. Especially for MSW events when blank firing, or for other events where you're in a specialty role that has a MED. I'd also add - even if you have a regular rifle that has no MED, and even if it's tuned well or bone stock - I'd rather have a secondary and not need it, than to need it and not have it. I've had rifles go down in the middle of a firefight for many reasons, and that secondary is a godsend and can get you back in the fight immediately, and you can deal with getting your primary back up afterwards.
I carry one as a lmg gunner (required ). It carries over to when I'm running an aeg. If nothing else, Murphys law of combat.....your primary will go down when you need it most. Might not need it, but it's comforting.
Just want to put my views and opinion on sidearms/secondaries. 1. Beginners: invest in a quality primary (AEG) and gear (eye pro, mags, footwear, case/bag for weapon transport) 2. Specialty classes (Sniper, DMR, LMG): usually a must as most field will have a MED 3. Advanced users (HPA/GBBR/Low Cap/MILSIM): personal preference or as field requires. These player have more than likely invested more in there airsoft career and have a couple primaries so a secondary weapon in certain situations may be helpful. The topic felt like secondary/sidearm implied pistols only, however, SMG/PDWs (MP7/MP9) are a good alternative. For users that don't want to maintain a GBB pistol there are AEG PDWs and can also be a primary at a CQB field if your primary is 350-400 fps. Also PDWs will provide better mag cap and fire rate than a pistol in most cases (can be helpful for keeping a sniper from being overrun. If you are going to have a pistol get a reputable one and carry it in a quality holster and maintain it. Clean/lubricate regularly and protect the mags if possible. Experience: I have had 3 KWC/Elite Force 1911s and have ran the as both primaries and secondaries. Recently picked up a TM based 1911 but have not had a chance to use it. Ait depends on your fields fps restrictions. If im using a cqb gun, thats all i need. I havent tried flash mags yet but i have them mow because they dont feed fast enough on an 11.1 unless i really wind. For fun i carry a shotgun is a back scabbard for ot i have to enter a building or wherever else fps i restricted to 350 and i have glock 17 for if i need to reload. Yes its heavy but its fun.
I often run a Real Sword Type 97 or a Marui Famas and carry about 6-10 mags depending on the situation. All these years I only bring a revolver without a speed loader or any ammo. I probably only fire all 6 shoots from my revolver once a year. I think he is very right. It is very rare to come down to pistols at least in the play style of most people. Better put that effort in your priority.
Fort Ord in Cali requires a secondary to clear house. Certain weapons, as Shotguns, and certain SMGs are allowed, but primaries are not. If you run a primary but not secondary, you can defend up until they get inside, then you're a meat shield for your team
Reasons I run a handgun with my rifle: the Mk23 for stealth kills, the AW HI CAPA for high rate of fire full auto sweep. There are certain things that handguns can do that most rifles can't.
I just bought a Umarex Glock 18c to add to my glock collection, so Fuck yea I pack a secondary! :) As I scrimmage as either a DMR markman's or Sniper (Striker MK1 Nemo kit ,Amazing!) I always have a sidearm for safety and as per field rules for MED's on the playing area. I use either a Glock, Sig or TM MK23 (damn thing is 11 years old) depending on my set up at the time. Also like to add that as a former Airsoft club member of LMAG here in Vancouver BC, that at the time we had MED rules that kept everyone safe from being shot at close range by higher FPS platform's so they encouraged club members to use side arms if possible in order to add a neat element to the game. Nothing more fun than getting kills with a pistol out in the woods. Pistols are great tools for anyone regardless on how you play the game. cheers
I run a VSR 10, so I carry a 1911 in order to engage under 100ft. I also carry a gbb sidearm to diversify my loadout: spring with vsr, electric with my AKSU, and gas with my 1911 It's also faster to switch to your sidearm than reload your primary
Love the content but can you lower the volume on the intro music? I watch your stuff on repeat when I work and I don’t like getting earfucked every time a new video starts.
Greetings from Germany. I wanted to share my experience from over here. So here a sidearm is basically necessary. The standard primary like Assault rifles have an average velocity of ~400 fps (1.5Joule) (quick side note full auto is forbidden by law for every gun above 230fps) and your minimum engagement distant is around 15 to 20 meters(50-65feet) and most fields don't allow you to "bang" at this distance. Also many fields don't allow long guns in buildings. A sidearm has to have a velocity below 325fps (1Joule). At most fields it's required to have a sidearm if your primary has more than 230fps. I can't guarantee it's for all fields because every field is a little different but that are the usual rules I experienced.
Great Video, Eric! Like as you know at GZA in CT you cann't use LMG to clear and fight in The Village...So for My MG3, I need my Glock to play in most of GZA! Stay Safe!
i play fantassin/assaut and i can't consider to play without a pistol as secondary: first of all when you need your arm to secure an objective, or escort a VIP, secondly when i go dry or encounter close environnement when the rifle is too long for good mobility. but one day i would try a savage assaut russian, with a plane AK, lots of mags, and a false knife
Also, when you only have a low price range stock primary, like a Dboys RK-1 or any JingGong or Cyma entry level rifle, you might want to have a TM HiCapa as your sidearm, to be able to take those precise long distance shots. ^^
Why not just invest all that money into a superior primary? 130 bucks for AEGs go a long way, why get a garbage rifle and good pistol if you can get a high-tier AEG that performs way better and take all shots?
Good vedio! Nothing is important than using the primary rifle. Then, handguns are less priority since they are the secondary weapons. Actually, I change my handgun to Marui Glock 19 from Hi-cap just because it is lighter to carry even though Hi-cap is more accurate.
For me personally, I’ve only ever had to transition to my pistol once. However, I still think having one is essential, since like Eric said, “airsoft guns love to break. On another note, the only airsoft pistols I think people should ever buy are TM-compatible Glocks and Hi Capas, since they’re the only ones you can actually upgrade to the point where you can compete with rifle users (in terms of range and accuracy) in case your primary goes down.
I am working on getting back into airsoft after about 8 years. I bought a handgun first. Most fields do rental rifles and most of the fields around aren't big enough to justify super upgraded rifles but due to the nature of rentals I'd like something reliable.
It also partly depends on where you play and the rules. Of course, glasses and primary weapons are the most important. But There are many places where I am not allowed to use my primary weapon assault weapon GBBR up to 2 joules but with 10m safety distance, and there is everything from hills to bunkers and buildings where I play the most, so I often get too close to people to shoot, so without a pistol I would just had to give up og not goo inside, or rund from the hills :D
I like to carry a sidearm. Because you just never know. I also play outdoors mostly. And the worst moment is when your in a game. And then shit battery goes death or something. And when you want to draw a pistol is like ooh... i dont have on me f***.... And just when i go in to buildings that are like small rooms and stuff. And if you have a long M4/M16 your just banging into walls. Just a normal pistol. That is the right size for you. Not a Deagle or something. Or when you ran out of ammo en can swith. To me in short its for comfort. Like you know its there when you need to.
You definitely need a sidearm. At my local field there isn't a minimum engagement distance rule but there is a rule where you can only clear buildings with a pistol or shotgun. I also use a pistol if the enemy is too close (0 to 10 feet.).
Think I got a good setup for my starter, canik TP9 combat elite, EMG cyma mk18/m41a long, and a golden eagle shotgun stubby HPA tapped, a bit crazy I know for starting but I know I'll have fun with more medium teir stuff instead of rentals, also spent a little bit extra so I don't have to upgrade
Small chime in. I’m probably one of those rare people that load to basically real standards, 30 rounds etc, for my AEG and stuff. I just like reloading. It’s fun to me. So I carry a side arm just Incase I do run through all my mags, which is rare at times, but still there just in case.
Pistol with a long 50 round mag indoors all day, unbeatable. Outside, I’ve gone to a modern SMG. Just as effective as a long rifle, but light and manoeuvrable. Not used an M4 or my AUG in a few years sadly.
I do find myself not using my sidearm as much but it’s really helpful when I’m clearing out buildings because I can go around corners a lot faster with my Glock 19x. My M4 is carbine length and some of these doorways are skinny so it becomes cumbersome sometimes.
I run LMG often with my group. So I like to hand off the LMG and just get back to my group using my pistol. Been running a hi-cappa 2011 sai and that gun has been doing work for the last year.
totally get it if you run LMG or sniper and they have rules about distance and where you can use them to have a side arm as a person that runs a AEG SBR I only really have one for the gram ill be real I have never actually pulled it for the most part but I use it almost more so for real steal training.
I'd put it in the same vein as using a gbbr or lower capacity mags (especially in shorter games) because even though it's maybe less effective it's fun to do reloads and handgun draws under stress.
Hey Eric, I know this is off topic, but I saw a video where you popped up in a video at a Desertfox event and mentioned you were running an SMG. It got me thinking about buying a pistol caliber AEG to try out the SMG class and was wondering what your pros and cons were on the class, is it viable, etc. Thanks man!
Im new to airsoft, i want an AEG as my primary but if something happens when my battery dies or mag runs out my pistol is going to be a good option for me
Chances are I'll never get to attend a milsim game but I'd like to hear your(and the other guys) thoughts on using a gbbr rifle as a primary for that sort of event, not an hpa based one but just a standard propane in the mag type. Obviously carrying propane and consistency is a con but I just haven't enjoyed any of the aegs I've tested out.
In my experience playing CQB, falling on your M4 and breaking the lower receiver from the buffer tube, having a pistol on my side is nice to still be in the game for a bit till the game ends.
I run a sidearm for MED, but also for the feeling of running out of ammo and switching to the sidearm. I feel cool, ok?
It's all about feeling cool.
We will call you, captain cool!

"Remember, switching to your sidearm in faster than reloading" - Gaz
Love the content but can you lower the volume on the intro music? I watch your stuff on repeat when I work and I don’t like getting earfucked every time a new video starts.
I feel the same way!
Good advice thanks Eric!
I run mid/real caps so having a side arm for when you run out of ammo is extremely handy
Great video as always, secondaries also have a place in impression kits to complete the kit, even if it may be non functioning
Sig M17? Such a great gun, I love the P226
I run a SCAR-H which is quite large for fluent cqb, that's why I use a side arm.
I’m think about getting back into airsoft after 10 years of not playing and I totally agree primary is probably all u need
I agree with mostly everything here other then when it comes to snipers
At all the fields I play, you're not allowed to run anything over 350fps without a secondary so priority if you want to run anything else
Great Video! Could you please make a review on the Blackhawk Holster!
I am usually the shield, LMG or grenade launcher guy, so having something small and light when the fight gets too close is really useful
Great advice to the Newbs! You nailed it.
I got a sniper set up,
A pistol is a must for us!
New tokyo marui sniper eh ! Noob...
Tony Ruiz I will jump snipe you bro..You have to use a hi-cap cuz you suk!
I would say you made a lot of good points E House. Gbb pistols are fun as hell but i rarely use mine and good no fog eyepro is way more usefull
Yes. For the look.
I just like having varied guns that feel different and are fun to shoot.
on the field i go to there are alot og buildings (container Town) and i think the Secondary is a most have in that instance ;)
Great video what is the sidearm you have there in the video ?
I run LMG often with my group. So I like to hand off the LMG and just get back to my group using my pistol. Been running a hi-cappa 2011 sai and that gun has been doing work for the last year.
Do you need toilet paper to poop? No, but it makes it a whole lot better!
The indoor field I play at has a transition rule in the kill house which means you have to switch to your pistol when in the kill house
... And if you don't have one?
@@shaneme3 you stay out of the kill house
totally get it if you run LMG or sniper and they have rules about distance and where you can use them to have a side arm as a person that runs a AEG SBR I only really have one for the gram ill be real I have never actually pulled it for the most part but I use it almost more so for real steal training.
I know the video is about pistols, but damn, that rifle looks good. Love the rail and the trigger.
Big Daddy E House rockin that TRX rail!! 😱
I'd put it in the same vein as using a gbbr or lower capacity mags (especially in shorter games) because even though it's maybe less effective it's fun to do reloads and handgun draws under stress.
I watched this 1 day after I bought my elite force 1911 tac (my first gbb)
John Meyer, for the short time I’ve had the pistol, it’s amazing, I was debating wether I should get the asg czp09 but I think I made the right choice
Can you go over gear like eye pro, and socks? You know, the over looked yet very important gear.
You know what? Good idea. I'm going to do that.
Thanks man!
I run a GHK M4 V2 GBBR and a sidearm is a MUST for GBBR users in my opinion. Thoughts?
Im new to airsoft, i want an AEG as my primary but if something happens when my battery dies or mag runs out my pistol is going to be a good option for me
Chances are I'll never get to attend a milsim game but I'd like to hear your(and the other guys) thoughts on using a gbbr rifle as a primary for that sort of event, not an hpa based one but just a standard propane in the mag type. Obviously carrying propane and consistency is a con but I just haven't enjoyed any of the aegs I've tested out.
Some sites have ammo limits for their events, in those situations I'd say those situations really dictate the necessity of a sidearm
I use a secondary for when I run out of ammo , have to be in close close quarters (wrap around the walls close) and it’s fucken cool
Do you guys have any recommendations for CQB fields on the east coast? The Ground Zero Indoor field closed down :(
The battlegrounds in Pittsburgh. Stay away from Stryker.
Its faster to swich to a side arm and get to cover, then to reload
But...but....handguns are the best for some airsoft ASMR. Reloading, racking the slide and dry firing when you just watch RUclips is the best.
Very Informative 😷😏🤔 I bought my first 2ndary or handgun after 15years of playing airsoft haha.. prioritize and spend wisely 😷🙃👍
I mean its always faster to draw the glock when the AK goes dry than trying to reload it during an exchange imo.
I hope you mean Grach and it autocorrected to Glock.
Seriously man, use an MP-443 for Russian Gang.
@@pastelpinnacle3955 gotta get the boomer pistol for authentic Russian jank.
Not usually but I like it
In my experience playing CQB, falling on your M4 and breaking the lower receiver from the buffer tube, having a pistol on my side is nice to still be in the game for a bit till the game ends.
Well said.
I run a tri shot shotgun with 280-300 FPS and 30 shells for it so do I still I need a hand gun
I like using a pistol as a primary in indoor fields but outside for I’ll use a pistol and rifle
As a sniper. My sidearm has saved me plenty of times when my bolt action rifle is too slow to eliminate a group of enemy's advancing towards me
Great advice dude, I keep imagining Seth roghan 😂😂
What I got out of this video is that when I run with my krytac lvoa-cg, krytac vector and 2 1911... is that I need a shotgun on my back
I always bring a sidearm when I run dmrs for entering a two story buildings or corridors
in my opinion yes because having a blow back pistol is so fun😊
I just play in the forest behind my house and me and my buddies don’t normally have enough guns for the ones that don’t have guns
What kind of rifle is that? Because I really want one! Love the videos from Scotland 🏴
hpa m4 primary ,mp9 tapp airsoft m4 adapter = 2 guns 1 mag type
I use my sidearm regularly when fighting in buildings, because my primary has 1.7J.
I’m hitting my first ever field game after quarantine. I have an l96 and an AEG ak74u, and my plan is to run the overkill perk 😂
A lot of the time it’s a waste of weight in a pick up game, but for ops it’s definitely worth it.
No need for a secondary with a tm mws gbbr :) i would rather take 2 extra mags instead
What kind of eyepro do you recommend? I've always used pretty low end stuff and after the first few days using them they usually start fogging up.
