OMG....how could I forget they made this song! Leon Sylvers is one of the best producers of the late 70's/early 80's. Alot of groups that I love owe credit to the Sylvers for their sound. Shalamar, Dynasty, and even the Whispers (during this era)! Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
This is the most underrated group of all time. The Sylvers need to be voted into the rock and roll hall of fame or given some kind of lifetime achievement award or something. They need to be given some recognition as far as I'm concerned.
Foster, Foster, Foster .... SO damn foine right here!!! I remember watching this when it originally aired and was surprised at how handsome AND grown he became. This video showed he wasn't little Foster ANYMORE!!!
This song is an 80s funk CLASSIC. Superbly written, tightly arranged, and expertly produced (by the group's legendary older brother, Leon Sylvers). One of the group's best.
I just heard this song for the first time a few weeks ago. Now I have played it 5 times a day since then. Definitely a great jam and very catchy. What a great group. All hail the 80's. Best decade ever.
I had never heard this before... This is a really good song.... Can you imagine if they hadn't voted Leon out of the group and they had recorded "The Second Time Around" instead of Shalamar?
Probably one of my top five songs from that time. Brilliant melodies, great production and now with the video I must add perfect choregraphy and the beauty of the Sylvers sisters... we're close to perfection here! The sadness in the melody is the same as the one I feel because the time for real music like that is gone now. At least I lived those times so I'm am thankful for that! The SYLVERS should have hit the top spot with this one. Why they didn't remains a mistery to me...
Happy February Black History Month from the Little Angels to the Sylvers. The Sylvers deserves a star ⭐️ on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame, now is the time.
your right, I am a Jackson fan but people acted as if there could only be one family group. The Jacksons were such juggernauts that it must of been hard for the Sylvers who made great music but were ignored...this song is a fine example and is by far my fav or theirs.
I LURVE this song...and those steps. Impeccable moves! Also, what I really dig about the Sylvers is their ability to sound almost similar at times. Foster could sound like Edmund and Leon at times. James and Leon at times sounded similar...and Angie and Charmaine sound similar. In fact, during this lp *Concept* Angie was pregnant, anf was put on bedrest. So on the song PS: the UNfinished Letter, Angie is actually singing part of the song and Charmaine the other. Olympia and Charmaine blended.
WOW this song is awesome! I love it. The DJ’s did our Sylvers wrong, this song should have got plenty of play! I can’t remember ever hearing it! Smh! 😞
Foster is incredible on this cut, he had made the transition of a kid with great potential to a bonafide grown-up frontman..he sounds fantastic!! man..i wish the world would have payed better attention at that time to them, cause they was gittin it.....in a strong way
83 survivor the lead singer on this one is Foster. Yes Foster and Edmund are very similar vocally, but the hottie in this video is most definately Mr. Foster Emerson Sylvers who just had his 47th birthday on 2/25/09 - :)
Nice song ... luv the Sylvers from day 1. Had a crush on Edmund. The lead on this song is Foster who had the hit Misdemeanor with his sister Pat and Angie doing background. I miss Edmund!!!
Thank you so much MusicXman!!!I've been waiting for so long to see that video again. Was too you ng to have knwon how to get it. Great Song.Very groovy. I will always love them. I wish I was old enough to go to clubs at that time.
I never knew that this was the song Tim Deluxe (aka Saffron Hill) sampled on the 2003 Dance hit "My Love Is Always" with Ben Onono.. It's great to hear the original song that served as inspiration for a great Dance track. Thank you for uploading this song! :-)
this group drove bonkers in the 80s,I thot it was shalamar at first or was there a connection by way of the producer Leon F Sylvers III.thanx for the post!am a funkateer thru 'n thru!
The Concept album was not one of my favorites back then. I have since listened to it again and it is really nice. This cut is a jam. Has a nice Solar feel to it. I could see Shalamar also doing this song.
@CrazyTim06 The Sylvers never made a music video for "Disco Showdown" but they made one for "Hotline" in early 1977 (shortly before Olympia departed from the group) which was in a plain white background.
Thank you. Even in the industry today it's hard to be successful when you're automatically compared to whoever is more successful. People tend judge another artist's music with a biased opinion rather than an open mind. I mean look at Beyonce. Any female who came out after her with blonde hair was automatically labeled a Beyonce wannabe. It didn't matter it they were bringing something new to music. Now that Rihanna is a huge success, they will compare new female artists to her. Vicious cycle.
Yes..."Just When I Thought It Was Over" was the other video shot for this LP. It was never released as a single (the 2nd single was "Take It to the Top" for which there was no video). You can see a small portion of "Just When I Thought It Was Over" on the "Remembering the Sylvers" clip here on RUclips.
Hey Isis. What's buzzin my play cousin??? Yes this song is really nice. Like I said, I did go back and listen to Concept. Some really nice cuts on there. P.S unfinished letter is beautiful. I also like, Heart repair man and Just when I thought it was over. Their sound is mature on this album. I wish I was their cousin. How could two people have produced all these gorgeous critters? (Gorgeous inside and out).
Edmund sang lead on most of the popular singles, but the group rotated lead singers on most of their songs...you just have dig deeper into their albums. Also, in 1978 Edmund shared lead with Leon on "Don't Stop, Get Off" and in 79 with Angie on "Mahogany." Edmund left the group in 1980 and on this track (released in 1981) Foster is doing lead. He would also sing lead on the 1984 single "In One Love and Out the Other." Pat did lead on the 1985 single "Falling For Your Love."
Thank You X3 Don't ever remove this video from your archive I rather watch over & over again. The Sylvers rock they made shalamar bigger then they was. P.S. Foster in that picture look better then Michael Jackson. Like the Jackson's but Sylvers won this battle.
Wow I didn't know that Foster sang the lead on this!!! And IS ANYBODY AWARE THAT ANGIE SYLVERS IS POSTING ON SOME OF THESE SYLVERS VIDEOS?????? HELLO???? Hey Angie, share with us!!!
Edmund Sylvers was the lead singer of the group "The Sylvers." At age 47, he would succumb to lung cancer in 2004, following a 10-month illness. The Sylvers hits include: "Boogie Fever," and "Hot Line."
I do love the part when he sings "let me try once again;I learn from my mistaaakes..." and these girls -the 2 sisters- were so "fantastically" pretty (especially the one in white...but the other one too) now? I don't know... by the way , I've always thought they have amerindian features,(physically speaking...) on the "Concept" especially...don't you think so...?
Hey Azone01! Check out some of the Dynasty songs. My favorite was, "Here I am". Their sound was similar to Shalamar. Leon most definitely cranked out some jams back in the day.
I apologize, but my phone was messing up on me, so my comment was posted twice. Still, this is a great song. It's a shame how this talented family of singers and musicians were always being compared yet overshadowed by The Jacksons. They should have had more success.
i am just saddened because what should have been for this group. but they have children and hopefully they will fly the sylvers mantle and set things right.
I ALLWASYS WANTED THE TOP THAT PAT'S WEARING ON THIS ALBUM... I GOT MY HAIR BRAIDED LIKE HER'S... COULDN'T NOBODY TELL ME I DIDN'T LOOK LIKE HER... I REALLY DIDN'T BUT IN MY HEART I DID..💗
The SOLAR Sound was because of LEON SYLVERS...He was the In-House Producer for SOLAR Records while his brothers and sisters were at Capitol and Casablanca, being produced by others. Concur discoAl...way much better than Michael Jackson and all the rap crap condescending music of today. Well balanced brothers and sisters; the sisters way beautiful than Janet Jackson. Looked what we got today: weirdo Michael Jackson: pervert and most of his family.
Foster had a great deep voice! :)
This song is catchy as hell! Great '80s R&B!

Wow he was so fine!
This is a nice change of pace for the group, to bad it didn't make it. I love the Sylvers
This song is an 80s funk CLASSIC. Superbly written, tightly arranged, and expertly produced (by the group's legendary older brother, Leon Sylvers). One of the group's best.
I love this song. Foster's sound had really matured. They all looked so gorgeous in this video
What a classic, great post!
I love this song and the Sylvers. Fascinating family . Take me back to the 70's and early 80's
I just heard this song for the first time a few weeks ago. Now I have played it 5 times a day since then. Definitely a great jam and very catchy. What a great group. All hail the 80's. Best decade ever.
Love the sylvers and that song!
Awesome song, I've played this song more than I can count. I hear the Whispers sound in here also!
because Leon Sylvers III produced and played bass on all those classic Whispers joints
I've always liked this song...it's one of their later songs that I DO remember.
Concept is one of my fav lps ...Foster's deeper voice...LURVE it.
I had never heard this before... This is a really good song.... Can you imagine if they hadn't voted Leon out of the group and they had recorded "The Second Time Around" instead of Shalamar?

i think the same thing, its a stellar production and that intro with the ahh's is awesome
Perfect video for perfect song.
I love Pat, Angie, Charmaine and Olympia. Foster sounds good here.
Love love the "ooh! ooh's!"
Nice song ... luv the Sylvers from day 1. Had a crush on Edmund. The lead on this song is Foster who had the hit Misdemeanor with his sister Pat and Angie doing background. I miss Edmund!!!

Thank God for Leon Sylvers;who gave the Whispers their signature sound. Listen to any Whispers and you hear Leon all over it.
@CrazyTim06
The Sylvers never made a music video for "Disco Showdown" but they made one for "Hotline" in early 1977 (shortly before Olympia departed from the group) which was in a plain white background.
Yes...that's Angie and pet...the only video I've seen for Disco Showdown is what looks like footage from an actual performance.
LOL I always had my eyes on Ricky. He was singing "come back" to me, yours truly :D
Thank you. Even in the industry today it's hard to be successful when you're automatically compared to whoever is more successful. funny how a lot of people never heard this song. i grew up in little bitty island in the middle of nowhere and was familiar with this song. wow.
I love this cut
Wish i grew up in the 70's. Amazon only has a couple of their albums.
Wow I didn't know that Foster sang the lead on this!!! And IS ANYBODY AWARE THAT ANGIE SYLVERS IS POSTING ON SOME OF THESE SYLVERS VIDEOS?????? HELLO???? Hey Angie, share with us!!!

Hey Azone01! Check out some of the Dynasty songs. My favorite was, "Here I am". Their sound was similar to Shalamar. Leon most definitely cranked out some jams back in the day.
certainely the best track from the sylvers.
Big brother Leon was in the group Dynasty.

ALRIGHT NOW!!!!
What are the names of the Sylvers sisters in the video?
Thanks!
Which Sylver is the one playin the guitar?
Jay D That is Ricky on guitar.
The SOLAR Sound was because of LEON SYLVERS...He was the In-House Producer for SOLAR Records while his brothers and sisters were at Capitol and Casablanca, being produced by others. I think by the time things got fleshed out, the sound that should have been the Sylvers' sound had been assumed by Shalamar, Dynasty, The Whispers, etc...This is THE SYLVERS sound, not Solar, truth to tell, and Leon did not even produce it. I think Foster Sylvers did. They are geniuses!!!
Also shows how fine Angie and Pat were.
dec 10 1997, just bought it on ebay
Yes...just type "In One Love and Out the Other The Sylvers" into the search engine above and it'll come up.
Classic mais tjs bon ;-)
Angie and Pat.

Concur discoAl...way much better than Michael Jackson and all the rap crap condescending music of today. Well balanced brothers and sisters; the sisters way beautiful than Janet Jackson. Looked what we got today: weirdo Michael Jackson: pervert and most of his family.
