Damn Bo, you should not daisy chain power strips. It always says so on the packaging. Also a big surge protector would be a wise choice. After all you want to protect your investment right?
The only danger is if the circuit is overloaded, so you do have to keep a bit of a mental tally of accumulated current draw. However, studio electronics use almost zero power compared to devices that use big wattage(power amps, microwaves, space heaters etc). In a past video of Bo's I recommended everything be plugged into the same circuit to reduce ground loop potential. I personally have my entire music rig powered by daisy-chained power strips from 2 main extension cords from the same wall-outlet on a 20amp circuit. I just counted. I have 6 power strips and a couple of extension cords for wall-warts, and a PC power plate that used to go under a monitor with switched outlets, so more like the equivalent of 8 power strips. my rig is extremely quiet because I practice good cable-routing techniques, and yes, i'm an electrical engineer and music freak.
Man, if only I'd have the dough, I'd get one of the Zaor desks, cause I'm tired of having to spend 20 minutes moving stuff around when I want to play something :D
Hi guys, at the moment, my 'studio' is only a big 2.40m x 0.90m tabel in two layers in our living room. But since we are renovation our place, I could free up a little decated space, isolated from the rest of the house (part of my garage actually). BUT, it is only 2 x 3.5 meters. I could actually build it as a completely free 'module' (for sound isolation). But is such a small space feasible in your opinions ? Soundwise, setupwise, ... ? I only have a synth (about 16 synths and a lot of FXmodules/pedals) setup which are all connected (via a patch bay).
@@BoBeats Greaaat, love this channel! And other thing . Have you got the list of the modules you are currently using with the Arturia Rackbrute? Thanks!
As usual your content is relatable to my situation. Just got my MS-101 delivered. Boy did I have to redo my whole studio setup! As usual! So now Im in the lookout for a better midiinterface. Since I like experimenting with midi in/out from different devices. Sort of like CV but most of my synths doesnt have CV. Only the Roland ones. Could anybody recommend a good one for this purpose. Like a patchbay sort of midi interface. Anyways, good job on the episode, more of this please.
Love that you talked about not getting any new gear/downsizing and you start with unpacking a fancy studiotable ;) But hey if it leads to a more compact studio why not right:)
Very safe Bo... power cord into power cord into power cord... you have some kind of endless loop there? xD I hope you don't have whole studio plugged into single power outlet.
@@BoBeats It should work fine as long as the max power draw across all connected boards doesn't exceed what one board can handle. Just be sure to check the max power rating for one of those boards and be wary of the power draw of each plug you put into it.
@@SexyNinjaMonkey this is what I thought and normally I don't run a ton of things of several boards, I mainly use it as a way to spread out connections a bit. For my main synth rig I use 4 individual power outlets for my big synths and no chaining. This is just for a smaller rig.
geez, that's alot of additional outlets coming from one mains outlet, you might want to reconsider that aspect of your build, not too sure about what the power is like in europe but here in austalia a mains outlet is only designed to handle a peak load of 10A @ 240V. I'd probably split the load between a few mains outlets cosidering you are trying to run like 14 outlets or something like that from a single mains outlet.
I would probably add up the total load before I flipped out for no real reason. Also, you may not be aware of other power supply considerations like "ground loops" "overvoltaging from phase differences in circuit legs" AND more extreme ground loop issues from that. in USA we have 240VAC 3-phase. the phases are split into 2 120VAC legs. HOWEVER, the voltage from hot lead on phase 1 to hot lead of phase 2 is 240VAC at the full 20 amps. SO as soon as you start bringing in random power from random circuits you risk serious overvoltage or even electrocution if the wrong case or transformer chassis is "hot" from one phase and you connect to the other phase. Bo is just fine running everything from the same circuit. If I was having power strip overloading issues, I would build an outlet extension box from higher amp wall sockets and then plug all my power strips into that rig in parallel. no one strip will have a big load, only the wall socket rig, which those can handle 20amps each. I have the equivalent of 8 power strips running from the 2 outlets of the same circuit, but it is all synths, effects, mixer, wall warts, small lights, 1 pc and one stereo receiver, and occasionally small 10-15watt guitar amps.
@@jjrusy7438, if you go back and read my comment you will notice it is rather civil, i was merely just giving Bo the heads up, not "flipping out" as you put it. I don't know what Bo is running in his studio so i can't possibly compute the load, that is up to Bo to compute, not me. Also i do have a formal background in computer engineering (a Stream of electrical Engineering) so yes i am quite aware of the concepts of Over voltage, ground loops and the potential consequences of phase issues within circuits, again i do not know what Bo is plugging into his power outlets so i cannot comment on such a thing. Perhaps you should reconsider who was "flipping out" within the past few comments, myself or you? If you think it was me, well i beg to differ, and for this reason i say good riddance and have a lovely day!
@@declanallan885 that makes it even sadder that you tossed a generic broad statement out there without even ascertaining any info. And you even said it yourself " i do not know what Bo is plugging into his power outlets so i cannot comment on such a thing." yet you did in an ignorant alarmist way. If you are so aware of phase etc like you say, why did you just recommend spreading his power around to create a ground loop? Ignorant people say ignorant things so I watch out for bo and have commented before. BTW, my field of EE was industrial control electronics, the mother of all noisy environments and my sense is that you are a cubicle occupant. I will address further bad info should you add any more. have a crackin' day.
@@jjrusy7438, If that's the case, then i guess Bo should just create a mother of all chain of power extenders and attach every appliance in his house to the one main's outlet, i am sure that will have a lovely outcome. I am sure Bo can fight his own battles by the way dude and doesn't need your help. need i say it again, good riddance, have a lovely day.

First off, I want to thank you for your videos and tutorials, very very insightful and you have greatly helped with my musical journey. I know this comment is kinda unrelated to this video, however would you still recommend the novation circuit as a "brain" for a hardware set up?
Saw a cool option with JunkieXl, he has a glass tabletop so he does´t have to to use the lid....nex table for me will surely have a glass table top!....(-;
For me also a lot of rethinking and building up my project studio again. Right now my focus is on all those power supply's so in consideration to replace them with a Cioks power hub cioks.com/home-1/ This might also be interesting for you Bo?

@@BoBeats It should work fine as long as the max power draw across all connected boards doesn't exceed what one board can handle. Just be sure to check the max power rating for one of those boards and be wary of the power draw of each plug you put into it.
@@SexyNinjaMonkey this is what I thought and normally I don't run a ton of things of several boards, I mainly use it as a way to spread out connections a bit. For my main synth rig I use 4 individual power outlets for my big synths and no chaining. This is just for a smaller rig.
@@BoBeats Well that's a relief. I was mildly worried for your gear but what you're saying doesn't sound as bad as I was thinking.
3:48 Bob eats synths!
Great little studio, best environment for some, too sterile for others (me) :D
ill probably dirty it up a bit in due time :-)
Helpful video. What and where do I get the keyboard stand as can be seen 3'18?
Hello new friend here supporting your channel now. I'm in the process of redoing my Studio. Looking for ideas and processes. Thanks 🎸🎹
Can you write the name of the desk please, youtube misses what you say in captions and I can’t quite make out what you said,
Thanks!
Zaor Miza Jr Mk2 and Zaor Yesk Desk
BoBeats Thanks man! 😀
geez, that's alot of additional outlets coming from one mains outlet, you might want to reconsider that aspect of your build, not too sure about what the power is like in europe but here in austalia a mains outlet is only designed to handle a peak load of 10A @ 240V. I'd probably split the load between a few mains outlets cosidering you are trying to run like 14 outlets or something like that from a single mains outlet.
I don’t use all of the outlets at once. But in 15+ years I have never ever had any issues with this.
Super happy fun time. 😂
Love your cardboard (?) synth stands! What are they? Cheers
Yes, do tell please!
how much weight does that keyboard tray hold?
Great video and you now have a new follower and streamer on spotify...
what soft synths do you prefers, arturias or komplete kontrols
Listen to my latest release BACKLASH: distrokid.com/hyperfollow/bobeats/backlash (this is the Hyperfollow function I talk about in the video) or on bandcamp: bobeatsmusic.bandcamp.com (also a great place to release your music)
First off, I want to thank you for your videos and tutorials, very very insightful and you have greatly helped with my musical journey. I know this comment is kinda unrelated to this video, however would you still recommend the novation circuit as a "brain" for a hardware set up?
Sir do u have any idea or review over moxf 8....thanx
What was the desk you were using, didn't catch the spelling of that name lol
Yesk Desk from Zaor
So, all this time I've been calling you Bo Beats and your name is actually Bob Eats?
Yes!! (No, my name is Bo)
Saw a cool option with JunkieXl, he has a glass tabletop so he does´t have to to use the lid....nex table for me will surely have a glass table top!....(-;
Looking good mate. Greetings from this "recycle" musician, haha.
Ur video is really cool...
I wish someone would set up my studio!
NIce Hair!
i just have the monologue, two guitars, one bass and two amps and my whole room is a total mess. i don't wanna know what it is like to you lmao
Zaor is not the cheapest desk who there is.. 😂 But if you can buy this, it's pritty nice to have one.
For me also a lot of rethinking and building up my project studio again. Right now my focus is on all those power supply's so in consideration to replace them with a Cioks power hub cioks.com/home-1/ This might also be interesting for you Bo?
the cuckoo « yeah » 😂😂😂
Rack mount power conditioners my dude.
got one :-) but need more
One time at bandcamp...
Cool project! But dude.. these paid promotions are kinda pissing me off. I am a YT premium user cause I hate adds! Are the revenue per view so low?
sponsorships + patreon is the standard way to support a youtube channel. I can maybe earn 100 bucks in ads on a video like this. If I am lucky.
Bob eats 😂
The whistle song needs to get rid of that hum at around 15KHz. My ears are ringing :(
🤣🤣
With headphones it pierced straight into my soul, Bo!! 😂 Really inspiring video! Will we ever finish building our studios? One day I want a minimalistic desk with one volca and one filter. The next day I want all my synths at the ready at absolutely all times.
it is an endless struggle
Scratches head, looks at mess of studio, sighs... Hälsningar från Gagnef och Dalarna!
F'iiin wires!
Nice commercial
I did not see any building, just you stacking pre made stuff on other pre made stuff
This is the definition of a boring vid
Waste of time
