The amulet could be an example of "true believe". The amulet itself is just a cheap mass produced plastic toy, but Emberlynn is convinced that it's the real thing, and that gives it the power.

I think the point you brought up about "a 90s Cartoon would have made her ugly" does have a great point about how this feels like affectionate teasing.
Because most of the friends I have who watch this show have noted that Emberlynn's gothy e-girl design is actually very attractive.
I feel like the monster love thing is just as much a parody of Vivienne's weirdness as it is about her fans. It's such an accurate read that you know it's coming from somewhere internal. Plus you cannot tell me that she doesn't at least ironically think up fanfic about her own characters.
That sounds like exactly what the Grimm Adventures of Billy and Mandy would’ve done too, but not to be mean, just because.

I love how perfectly reasonable Skyen is about his react content. Some RUclipsrs go frame-by-frame and manage to talk about a 5-minute short for, like, an hour.
In regards to the protective amulet, considering it has a pentagram on it, it has a direct connection to not just Lucifer but witchcraft. The crux of witchcraft is intent, and within the context of the anime the pendant comes from, the intent placed upon the amulet is to protect against demons, which is why it repelled Blitz. I don’t think the show is going to delve into witchcraft being apart of the human world but in the ‘apology tour’ episode we do know that humans have the ability to summon demons.(poor Stolas lol) Emberlyn could’ve actually been a witch without realizing it and imbued her pendant with actual magic.
This also extends to Lucifer in that, within this show’s universe, the pentagram is HIS symbol. He’s probably the one who put the giant pentagram in the sky of the pride ring which he uses to keep the sinners imprisoned there.

Well, there IS a subtle hint at why she is the way she is....
At the start of the short it is mentioned that she's from a "boring town", so it makes sense why she would choose to escape in a fictional world to avoid boredom and loneliness of her life
Honestly, with the pendant, I think I prefer it if it's just a joke of "This anime company somehow happened to make an actual demonic warding charm in the form of merch."
At the very least, if this is something that is meant to come back as a serious plot point in the setting, it'd be very, very weird to introduce it in a little joke short.
Don't know what's worse: The fact that my initial thought for this video was 'I wonder if he will notice the MLP jar reference', or the fact that the answer was 'Yes'.

The pentagram pendant might be just a normal object since, originally, the pentagram was seen a form of protection against evil, dating all the way back to ancient Egypt, going through middle age Europe and now, with modern wicca. The demonization of the figure is a much more recent phenomenon and in such examples, it's usually upside-down.
I like that the comment of the shared love of horses was immediately followed by the appearance of the jar.

I believe the "Obsessive nerd" stereotype originated with Star Trek fans who would attend sci fi convention in the 80s and 90s and would question the writers about plot holes in some various episodes, naming the episode numbers as they did.
This would annoy the writers, who would go on to include unflattering caricatures of those fans in other projects they worked on.
Other writers would see these characters and copy them without knowing the context and the character type would become more divorced from the original with every iteration until we ended up with the stereo type we have now.
I honestly thought the final joke of the short was going to be that while Emberlynn is lustful and a bit freaky she's ultimately harmless and innocent and she'd never done anything bad enough to be sent to hell. So after being killed she'd end up in heaven and be disappointed for a bit and then probably notice the variety of angelic forms...
Also, I feel that while it might be a bit "mean spirited", ultimately there's a lot about Emberlynn that's probably self-depreciating humor: I get the feeling that the people that make this show also include the kind of fans being depicted here.

I've watched multiple people react to this short and so far you are the first person to say Shawnathan correctly. I don't know why it was bothering me so much but I literally shouted "Thank You!" when I heard you say it.
I think the crucial component that prevents Emberlyn from being a *cruel* caricature of a weeabo is that most of the fans who recognize ourselves likely are aware that there's a heavy dose of Viv in her as well (and probably a bunch of other people involved in the series).
I haven't been on Tumblr in years (or any other social media), but when I was active there we were all quite strongly in agreement that *Tumblr was an absolute dumpster fire/affectionate* (and all other social media is worse.
Looking at Emberlyn, I remember being 20-something and incredibly cringe, terminally online, living with my parents and getting involved in shipping wars. And I have nothing but affection for her - actually, good on her for having even more fun with it than I ever did at that age. If I ever had to make an avatar of that part of my life, it would probably be a lot more drab, a lot less sexually forward, but just as weird ❤️

As someone who's been on the other side of an actual malicious mean spirited portrayal of "the fangirl" (supernatural I'm looking at you) this didn't feel like that. Cause we know the creators are making fun of themselves just as much as they are making fun of "us" we're all laughing together and we're all in on the joke. Feels very different to a writers room full of over 50 year old cis het guys writing the representation of the fandom as a pathetic annoying woman with no boundaries whatsoever bordering (not even really bordering) on SA to fulfill her fantasies just because they're bitter that they didn't get the red blooded macho man audience they wanted.

Blitz implied he can't get his knife in the pentagram either, so it probably is just setting up that pentagrams do at least affect some demons to some extent. It will be cool to see what they choose to do with that moving forward.
One detail I didn't notice on my first few watches is that in the bottom left of that shot of Blitzø's desk at the very beginning, you can see the Moxxie and Millie puppets that he was... uh... "playing" with at the beginning of the Loo Loo Land episode!

As someone who can give you season, episode number, and episode title of any DS9 episode he cites, or volume and chapter of any Dragonball panel, I think it comes a lot more from spending your free time in the pointless debate mines than it does autism. I'm sure there's plenty of overlap given that the pointless debate mines are where the most hyperfixated/hyper obsessed people can be found be they neurotypical or neurodivergent, but given that she's a shipper who has engaged in ship to ship combat in her youth, I'd say she's a debate lord and her episode citation is an expression of *that* particular quirk.

Also, just because people tend to get confused on the subject, a pentagram doesn't just mean evil by default. If the top-most point of the star is facing downwards, then it typically tends to be more associated with evil and demonic forces. When it looks like a normal star with the point at the top, that's meant to be more benevolent.
I didn't realize there were more horrors hidden in that girl's room that I had no understanding or awareness of... I thought I had thoroughly examined it and found all deviancy...

Would strongly recommend The Owl House. It's a kids show but has a huge overlapping fandom with helluva boss.
It takes place in the demon realm and has crazy creative characters designs, backgrounds and smooth animation
I'd also recommend Revolutinary Girl Utena. Also pretty gay but is also chin deep in symbolism and metaphors by the last arc as well as the movie.
