the version they played made me imagine a couple where the guy was fighting in a war while his squad is getting wiped out and in his last moments, knowing he'd die, he's only thinking of his love while the girl gets shown on screen washing the dishes and a plate slips out of her hand and it broke and then when she picks up the broken pieces, she bled her hand and used the handkerchief that the guy gave her as his first gift. the next day she hears of his death, runs out to see his body, and that's the day her heart died with him
I thought it was gonna be about him and his bros like ayeee squad where we dropping It's way more depressing to fight a war realising that death is meaningless and you were serving no heroic cause, just pawns in a game. The last thing you see is the face of your homie. Then it could end with either paralysis from the shock and death, a message of what should've been an adventure ending with the loss of innocence (as recruitment now targets kids who grew up playing COD they literally help produce the games). Or maybe instead it could end with anger that bubbles up from the man's soul, giving him the courage to pull the trigger and while he knicks a few guys he dies too. Then the message is that revenge is meaningless or that there's no place for emotions in the battlefield. It also sort of shows that in his rage, he failed to humanise his enemies, which is exactly the strategy and training soldiers had to do to kill. Anyway. What I'm saying is, not everything's a love story (but hey his dedication for his homie unreal yo), and war is one of the worst things to romanticise. Seriously. The trope of win the war and get the girl is old. Apparently, life flashing before your eyes is either 1. your brain searching for a way to survive the situation or 2. the instinct to leave progeny before death To think, in death, we are ruled by the desire to reproduce and leave proof that you were here. Originally for survival of the species, but now just because there are so many of us and we are selfish enough to want to continue. Damn. Misanthropy is compelling
