I love watching his eyes and how they react when he talks, such a cutie!
I looked it up and it seems parrots are able to manually control the size of their pupils. It's believed they use it as a form of facial expression/body language, since it's mostly seen during social interactions. I learned something new today.
@@jesicad.685 I think you might have misunderstood what you read. This is referred to as "pinning their eyes" and is a very common trait of Indian Ringnecks (also called IRNs) as well as a number of other birds.
Typically, pinning just shows some form of emotion being felt. It is still reflexive (similar to a cat or human's eyes dilating) which is where I think the misunderstanding came into play. I have never seen a single source claiming that birds manually control their pupil size solely for emotion displays. They likely can control pupil size, but it would probably be more for things like spotting threats, etc.
Because of the wide range of emotions it can signal, it isn't really worth anything when using it to interpret their emotions. It can be happiness, anger, encitement, or mere curiosity. Given the rest of the context (vocalisations, body language, etc.) I would say the emotion the eyes indicate is either excitement or happiness (duh).
This made my day. Thank you for sharing your precious relationship with this extraordinary bird.
Me too. A very wholesome clip. 🥰🥰🥰

I dont get enough credit!!
it really is neat how smart they are. ❤ I wouldn't be surprised if they where up there with monkeys, tbh. or at least close.
Yes! There are some birds that can mimik a child playing or a conversation of people. (They not only say things but mimic the social surroundings)
@@Shes.A.Sagittarius you are not that smart 🤷🏻♂️
If you look it up, dogs generally have the intelligence level of a 2 year old child. Parrots and a few other birds.. of a 4 and sometimes 5 year old. They're extremely smart, not just intelligence-wise, but also emotionally. Love your parrots, guys. (I have a yellow naped Amazon girl)

Ikr that's some crazy ish for one that's not a parakeet
My uncle rescued parrots who out lived their owners. He had a VERY interesting barn. Grays that sang opera, magpies that could make sounds that would make you swear there were ghosts around. It was something else. Good ol' uncle Vic.
Sounds interesting.
God I'd love to listen to tales from the parrot barn 😍
I've always thought that there must be so many paranormal stories that were really just an animal making unexpected noises in the bush
We inherited my great-aunt's mynah. Aunt Virginia was rather free with her usage of expletives. As an 8 year old, hearing a bird constantly order me to "f*ck off" was immensely entertaining. Hardly ever see mynahs anymore. They were quite popular in the 1960s. Fruit Loops might have had an influence. 😁 This parrot is beautiful. The blue tones are lovely. Your bird has a sweet "voice."

I've never seen a parakeet seem to notice their owners enjoyment of their actions and then aggressively proceed to push it as far as it could. This little guy is so special.
Not a parakeet, the title is misleading.
You need to get a hand raised bird to be able to get this type of affection. Just plain ole store bought ones are different. Not so affectionate or playful. They need a lot of attention too, but pretty fun too.

This was great. Smiled the whole time. So fantastic to see a bird obviously well cared for and not just constantly kept in his cage
💯
You can't keep those types of birds in their cages. It stresses them out and they start going crazy. Not all birds do this mind you, but personally the only ones worth having are the ones that can't stand being in cages. They tend to be much smarter and more fun to interact with. I don't understand why people buy pets that just sit around in cages doing nothing.
@@ajd2393 to be fair mines an asshole but I still just open the cage and let him wander out for a bit, just don't really touch him because he hates hands but loves the attention

It's mimics only. They dont have a clue what it means. That's why you dont want someone around who cusses because they'll ruin the bird.
Lots of birds have figured out not just mimic language. But, how to use it in context! It's amazing to get a few birds together and listen to them have full on conversations with each other. There are many vids here on yt
I think he's saying it at times he thinks are correct because he's basing it on social cues, like he'd learn that people say "what you doing?" before showing interest in someone
