  • On a sunny late afternoon during the 55th New York Film Festival, the exuberant team behind The Florida Project hit the red carpet to discuss this moving, exhilarating look at life in the margins of Orlando. We spoke with the breakout kid trio of Brooklyn Prince, Valeria Cotto, and Christopher Rivera as they discuss why Sean Baker is “the best director we could ever have.” We also talked to costar Bria Vinaite about how she was cast, Willem Dafoe on the power of cinema, and director/co-writer Baker on the detailed preproduction process.
The 18-day New York Film Festival highlights the best in world cinema, featuring top films from celebrated filmmakers as well as fresh new talent. The five-person selection committee is chaired by New York Film Festival Director Kent Jones and includes esteemed critics, curators, and programmers.
Since 1963, the New York Film Festival has brought new and important cinematic works from around the world to Lincoln Center. In addition to the Main Slate official selections, the festival includes newly restored classics, special events, filmmaker talks, panel discussions, an Avant-Garde showcase, and much more.

Watched it five times...sobbed every time...Brooklyn Prince was unbelievable! I have seen her in several interviews. She is a sweet, innocent little girl. I pray the business she is in doesn’t ruin that.

This film deserve a few Golden Globes and Oscars!!! Refreshing, intense and real. I love ALL the actors and William Dafoe is so humble amongst the new costars.

The movie that single-handily shattered the image of Orlando (and justifiably so).

They didn`t mention this movie was made on a budget $2million; This movie was just astonishing and one of the best of 2017. The acting from the mom and daughter n the movie was just way too good methodwise. Go and see this movie; The ending that they debating here, I totally got the ending and without going into spoilers, the ending was seen through the eyes of innocent kids, what kids would do when faced when faced with a situation thats just too difficult for them to understand.Shocked and horrified this went completely ignored at The Oscars. O yeah, almost forgot ; yes indeed she was a terrible mum but it was in your face obvious to me at least she loved her daughter and was doing everything she could to keep a roof over her daughters head cause she knew if she ended up homeless, her daughter would be taken off of her so..thats the reason why she makes and forced into making the choices she makes, I mean coming up with rent week after week after week after week, extremely difficult thing to do. Guys, make it our business to see this movie OMG! Utterly amazing movie.

Dafoe is creative and brilliant, yet so humble and open. I wish I knew someone like him personally; A rare bird indeed.

This movie got stiffed by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Better than most or maybe any of those films that got a lot of Oscar nominations and wins this year. It's not the first time the Academy got it wrong. Remember Citizen Kane did not win Best Film.
