    Life was tough in the 70s UK but it was still a million times better than now, Christmas was really special back then

    Now that’s a blast from the past and such a weird kids show (with the scruffy Pipkins), but brilliant and funny, love it!!! Memories from my school days

    Getting off the bus at 2:25 are the production team. First George Portway(Floor Manager) with a young lady. Then Mike Jeans (Producer / Director) followed by Claire Sandford (Stage Manager in glasses)

    My partner who passed 2 yes ago loved it tio asxa kid he liked octavia he would loved to hsvr seen these made our childhood this show

      Aww I loved Hartley too. I still like hares today and I have lots of hare ornaments, pictures and cushions in my home. Hartley obviously had a lasting impression on me. 🐰❤

    Completely charming. I grew up in the countryside and in that era the TV was like a little portal into the "outside world". Looking at Hartley Hare now he does look a little bit as if he could have appeared in "The Wicker Man". Bravo to the modellers for preserving his "animal" otherness. You wouldn't get that nowadays, everything is so sugary sweet for children. The presenters are always terribly well spoken in 1970s Children's TV. Tom (who I remember watching) makes Richard Burton sound like Frank Sidebottom (which is also charming!)

    Thank you for this! For so many years I thought I'd imagined Pipkins because no other person my age had heard of it. I think maybe bcos it was on during the day and I was off school sick.... a lot! ..lol

    Somehow Topov just came up in conversation between my wife and I.
    So, I found this episode on RUclips and traumatised my 21 year old son with it.
    Hartley the Hare was a wreck!
    Bloody loved Pipkins!

      He was supposed to be a bit mangy as he'd been made out of a sack. They kept this idea going by throwing him into a cupboard. All the other puppets were in plastic bags on hangers.

      @@Jonathankydd id forgotten that if it ever registered with me as a young kid in the 70s. However, it all sounds pretty sketchy now 😂 It’s amazing how things we watched 50 years ago can just be in our heads waiting to be dug out. All the characters’ names just flooded back as soon as my wife mentioned Topov!

    Topov can't get bonked in his lookout! Obviously didn't encounter Savile! This was weird in it's day, but I always watched it, along with Mary, Mungo and Midge, the Herbs and Hector's House et al! I also enjoyed the Banana Splits and The Jacksons cartoons, Pink Panther and Charlie Brown and Peanuts!

    Pipkins TV series I remember watching as a kid. I was 8 when it first aired in 1973
    When both the BBC and ATV were at the ‘top of their game’
    ATV was owned in part by Lew Grade
    When life was much simpler and happier.
    However as kids nothing seemed to phase us.
    Is your name any connection with Sam Kydd???

      At the credits, it says Elizabeth Lindsay. I knew it was a woman all along, she sounds exactly like Dorothy The Dinosaur from The Wiggles.
