  • The German Ambassador to Latvia, Christian Heldt in an interview with our reporter Sascha Fahrbach emphasized the historical significance of the Baltic states' accession to the European Union in 2004. He highlighted Germany's early role in fostering diplomatic relations with the newly independent Baltic states and underscored their long-standing European identity, despite periods of Soviet occupation. Drawing parallels to Germany’s own reunification in 1990, the ambassador likened the accession of the Baltic states to a reunification of Europe. He stressed the importance of May 1st, 2004, as the date when 10 countries, including the Baltic states, joined the democratic space of the European Union.
