Graham thank you for again sharing your experiences. The Video's show us a lot of different collector's interests, gives some inspiration to expand to areas that we might never had even thought of!! A lot of the public seem to think that Philatelists are ancient individuals in dark dusty old rooms!!! But to see the variety of ages that you have interviewed it gives new meaning and hope to the hobby!!! Thank You!!!
You are very welcome, Robert. The variety of ages and personalities was amazing, it’s exciting to see how different people collect and build their collections. I hope to do this again because I really enjoyed it. Thanks for watching 😊
Great video! As a geezer who has just stumbled into the world of philately, it's so nice and informative to see such a broad spectrum of people into the hobby and their varied interests within it. ✌️
I am very proud of the community, any event with large numbers of rival Philately gangs has the potential for chaos often resulting in angry worded letters almost being sent back and forth, but this was peaceful enjoyment of the coolest hobby on earth with the coolest people sharing what they love, with others that love it just as much. If someone asks you if the world would be better if more people collected stamps, just answer of course!
Not just enjoying collecting but meeting The Queen while doing so! Many times it's the artwork that inspires me and seeing that tiny painting was amazing.
Great to see an awesome variety of collectors at STAMPEX, not only the "old buddies", but also the young ones. Very entertaining, thanks for sharing ! Greets from GER, U.
If ever there was a video that captures the flavor of what it's like to be at a premier stamp show, this was it. It was especially revealing to see young people enthusiastic about collecting stamps, just as I was many decades ago (and still am now). Also striking was to learn that In Great Britain, at least, there are even stamp clubs in schools. Thanks for the great tour. I felt like I was right there.
Thank you Gerry 😊. Meeting the young folks that were enthusiastic to share their collections with me was just wonderful. I learned a lot, and got really inspired by talking to them. Thanks so much for watching 😊
This is one of your videos that are memorable in many ways! Sharing moments in history that are so vibrant for me. Me who is an admirer of Her Majesty Elizabeth II, to see documents and people who had the privilege of meeting her, it touched me a lot! I really liked seeing that a tribute was made to you and to Liza from Cat Stamps! Thank you very much for this virtual tour.
Thank you 😊. Queen Elizabeth II definitely was on the minds of everyone at Stampex this year, so many wonderful items were shown and shared with her memory. Glad you enjoyed the episode, thanks for watching!!
I really enjoyed seeing different people’s collections, and am happy to be a part of it. You must have worked so hard on this, for example the subtitles 😊
Trust Graham to come with something different and engaging... You never let us down. That's your USP 👍 So Whatyagot as part of ES - - our deepest appreciation from the philatelic world 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
🙏 😊 thank you! Yes I hope to do this more often, I first experimented with the idea at the Sacramento show with a couple viewers, and I really like the way this video came out. Thanks so much for watching!!
Super interesting as always. People talking about their nerdy interests are always a joy. Nice to see a countryman at the end too. Cheers Brian from Stockholm.
Really interesting "show and tell"! Especially love seeing young people taking such a serious interest in collecting. Would love to see more "show and tells" in the future as there are so many interesting collectors with some really amazing treasures. Thanks Graham.
What a fantastic video, Graham! Something that online philately hasn’t quite buttoned down yet is interactive show’n’tell, but I think you just nailed it. So great to see the diversity in topics. Whatever you want, you can collect! 🤜🏼🤛🏾
Thanks Punk! It was an experiment that I wasn’t sure would work, but I’m thrilled with the outcome and look forward to doing this again in the near future. Glad you enjoyed it 😊
This was such a great episode! It's wonderful to see people talking passionately about their collections, and really tailoring them to what they find interesting. So much love. Thank you so much for all the hard work and quality content!!!
Though I mainly collect Canada and US stamps and postal history, I do have a small 'World' collection. And that includes a British folded letter similar to Oliver's which is postmarked April 30, 1840. Like him I've always looked at it as the end/beginning of an era. Thanks for showing us collectors showing us. Always great to see what interests other people. Cheers!
Fantastic episode Graham. My favourite would be Magnus’ Everest Expedition and the segments featuring the kids. Well done. The QE2 letter is pretty incredible too!
Thank you Jeff! Magnus did a great job explaining the significance of the postcard, and his connection to it. I think I wiuld like to do more of these episodes in the future. Thanks for watching 😊
Just came across this video & channel by accident. Interesting to see the address on the Himalayas Expedition cover is one I walk past nearly every day for the past 30yrs. 😀 Nice seeing different levels of collectors, makes me feel adequate now. 😳😂
😊 Thank you for watching! Yes I also LOVE meeting a variety of collecting interests and levels, it is always fascinating to learn about their styles and enthusiasm for philately.
Thank you again Graham for a very interesting view. This is a really nice idea to have others show their cool items and explain where their collecting interests lie, that might just inspire some new collection ideas. A great rhino you got by the way! And I loved how the Dutch town 'Scheveningen' was pronounced.
Very interesting 🤔 I have some of the stamps I see but the first day cover from Lee's should have on it the Strike of 1971 which is my birth year's with the Machines stamps .Yes I'm a collector 😎🇧🇸
Thanks Ted. I totally agree when it comes to youth and engagement with children. The UK has some really good programs that inject some great energy into the hobby. Thanks for watching 😊
I thoroughly enjoy watching your videos. I hardly consider myself a stamp collector. Though I do have some stamps put away but not in any order or theme - from my younger days. It's wonderful see these people presenting their stamp collections at these shows, especially the younger people - hoping to see that philanthropy continues on into the next generation. 😊. I was astonished to that young man pointing out his stamps with the finger that he indicated them with.
Thank you 😊, it’s so good to see that you enjoyed the episode. Watching the young folks talk about their stamps and collections really is energizing, one of my favorite things about this trip. Thanks for watching 😊
An interesting video and very refreshing, truly! When I was at Stampex last I just walked around on my own and bought a Penny Black on cover. I must get better at talking to folks! Oh, I vote for May 6!
@@rogerturner1881 I don't believe so, I just looked through all my mail. It could be in my PO Box as I havent checked it in 4 days, will confirm once I receive it.
I also met George at CAPEX 22. Graham, you are absolutely amazing. I recorded your presentation at CAPEX and it is a treasure for me. Wishing to go to STAMPEX one day.
Notably great video! One thing I noticed on the Elizabeth letter and cover. Both were outlined with a black border. This was common practice at the time for correspondence during a period of mourning.
Thank you Ken 😊. Ah yes of course!! It is a mourning cover, and therefore I should probably not have cropped the black border off the images 🤦🏼♂️. Good catch! Thanks for sharing 😊
After looking your Nepal video and the topic with the Everest stamp from 1924 I thought, it would be interesting to see a letter with it. I have one of these stamps and I read a bit about the expedition, but I never saw a letter. And now, thank you Magnus, we have one of these letters. Fanatstic. Overall there were so many nice and interesting items shown in this video. Interesting the sheet issued with 41 pieces sent only to some handwritten people, I have never heard of it. The Guyana stamps and the really nice Swedish letters and, and, and... This was really nice to see.
Very interesting I got couple albums home and a lot lose stamps of my late mother she had pen friends all over place alot from Iraq have to sort them out get them looked at some time thanks video Gavin Hastings east Sussex.
Some additional info (a bit late). The "red line" on Oliver Tull's cover is the numeral "1" that signifies the postage of 1d (one penny) to mail the letter. As stated in the video, the use of red means that the sender paid the postage. Had it been in black ink, the amount would have had to be collected from the recipient. The "coin" on Christopher's covers are actually medals, not coins. (There are covers that include actual coins in a similar fashion.) The reference to "coins and stamps" on one cover relates to the fact that Machin's portrait was used on British coins from 1968 to 1984, as well as the coins of Rhodesia, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. In fact, the effigy was originally intended for coins; only later was it accepted for stamps as well. June 6, 2017 marked the 50th anniversary of the Machins. The final cover Christopher showed was from 2007, marking the 40th anniversary.
Hi Graham - I watched your vid on removing self-adhesive stamps.
