    My begonia Sinbad had those same weird blooms and I cut one open because that's just what I do. Begonias have male and female flowers on the same plant. Those are female flowers, if they get pollinated, that triangular shape will swell as seeds form. ☺️ pinch female buds off to prevent pollination and prolong blooming.

    SO excited to see more of your Vanilla plant, I’m also growing a vanilla in a cold climate and appreciate seeing other people’s journey with that particular plant. Mine has been a struggle and she’s not looking so hot right now but she seems to be on the rebound since I put her on a moss pole in a last ditch effort to save her, she’s sizing up a little and has multiple growth points, both for the first time in 3+ years of growth

    All your plants are so beautiful! I was struggling with all types of pests and couldn’t get them under control,this combination is what worked for me. I know you like more natural solutions but desperate times call for desperate measures. I use the sticky traps,but here in Australia they also come in bamboo skewers type,my favorite as less noticeable,also I resorted to putting systemic granules and I have almost zero pests,now and again I’ll find some mealies but I treat them with isopropyl alcohol,feels like I can take a break for the first time. Note# I never use sticky traps outdoors,as not to trap any beneficial insects.

It blew out a circuit breaker and I could smell hit wires and traces it to switch in the wall where the switch was on. It was a switch needed to run that wall socket. When I took the switch plate off, it was a really strong smell of hot wires. I had to call an electrician who found partially melted wire in the wall where the switch plate was. PS everyone I'm not trying to sound like a know-it-all or or anything like that about the pest spray It's just like once you get rid of all the pests it makes your life so much easier and more fun as a grower. I just want to help. I've been growing for about 10 years and spraying that stuff for about 7 or 8, before I started doing it it was so hard and took a lot of the joy out and made you like fearful of the pest killing things. What made the hugest difference was the two weeks separate from the other plants and really spraying them that way you're not bringing any new pests in. I also don't bring any of my plants outside for the summer I guess you could really wash it off in the shower and do the two-week process just like you do new and coming stuff.

    Just an FYI- The raccoons are eating the grubs under your lawn. Opossums also do this too. You can treat your lawn to kill the grubs or just let the furry critters chow down on them.

    • @wildfern
      @wildfern  4 часа назад

      yeah so far our method has just been to let them chow 😅😂 lol

    Does it snow where you live now? I seem to recall there being snow at your old places! Just wondering about climate! I live in Utah and it seems pretty similar in the winter besides the humidity lol!😂

    • @wildfern
      @wildfern  4 часа назад

      It snows sometimes! No snow yet this year. Usually just rain. Sometimes we will get a big snowfall, but it usually melts pretty quickly.

    Your viterafolium is really pretty. One of the only anthuriums I might consider getting. The other is the pallidiflorum. Do you have one of those.

    I've been doing a Diy spray for like 7 years and I've never had it bother my new leaves? I do over 3/4 of the way full almost full of water then a couple tablespoons of soap 15 to 20 drops of essential oil (every few months I switch up the essential oils I use so the bug Don't get used to it) a dropper full of yuca extract.. you get it on Amazon for like 10 bucks and it lost super long it makes all of the spray spread all over the plant and stay on. a couple tablespoons of alcohol and that's it it works really well I'm even using it for flat mites and just doing it a lot more often for flat mites but I've sprayed it on new leaves or emerging leaves so many times and never had that happen except sometimes with a hoya leaf if it's just at that right time but not usually even when they're little tiny I am fine I do the stems I'm wondering if maybe you're soap is too hard I use Dr bronner's as my soap. It's very similar to the liquiddirt recipe I do sometimes do the peroxide but lately I've just been using the alcohol. What's interesting as I've been doing this for years and I've actually never had mealy bugs and I'm guessing it's because I spray all my incoming stuff and it always has alcohol in it I mean I really doubt it every day for the first 3 days then I wait a week and I do it again in a week and a day after that I quarantine all my new stuff spraying it often before it ever happens and I really do not get pests from doing this and then I do my whole collection in the change of seasons. The only thing I've dealt with is not taking flat mites serious enough for one thing I couldn't see him didn't know I had him and I think there was a few places I ordered from that came to me with flat mites I definitely know the damage and take it seriously as far as I did spray incoming but there's some things I do different now that I didn't do with my hoyas. I don't know if you're still watering your plants in the sink if you are the best way to kick all of your pest issues and get rid of them for good is to spray every week with a DIY spray until you get it under control. It's worth it to put the extra effort in for like a few months to never really have an issue again if you always really treat the incoming stuff. I guess I'm pretty type a about pests but it stresses me out so bad. If you have a really hardcore like 2 months to get on top of it spraying every week, It's so worth it sometimes I just lay a towel down or a propagation box you know like a plastic bin and just like spray one plan at a time and put it back on the shelf doing it in the evening so no light hits it with those oils in there. I really believe the essential oils are the key along with the soap holds it on they're along with the yuca extract.

      Wow that's a lot of great info, thanks for sharing! I'll definitely keep all this in mind. 😊 I don't stress about pests anymore, but I could always stand to be more vigilant haha.
