Why & How to Transfer Merit

- Transfer of merit (or merit dedication) is an important practice in Buddhism. In this video I share why and how to transfer merit, particularly for Nianfo practitioners.
Merit Transfer Translation
Common Pure Land merit transfer gathas (hymns):
May the resulting merit and virtues
Be distributed everywhere without discrimination
May we all generate Bodhicitta
And be reborn together in the Land of Peace and Joy
愿以此功德
平等施一切
同发菩提心
往生安乐国
May the resulting merit and virtue
Adorn the Buddha’s Pure Land
Repay the four great kindnesses above
(*note: four great kindnesses: parents, teachers, country, and all sentient beings)
And relieve the suffering in the three evil paths below
May those who see and hear this
All generate Bodhicitta
And when this retribution body comes to an end
Be reborn together in the Land of Ultimate Bliss
愿以此功德, 庄严佛净土。
上报四重恩, 下济三途苦。
若有见闻者, 悉发菩提心。
尽此一报身, 同生极乐国。
May we be reborn into the Western Pure Land,
And have the Nine Grades of Lotuses as our parents.
When the lotuses open,
we will see the Buddha
And realise the Dharma of No Birth (and No Death)
Having Non-regressing Bodhisattvas as our companions.
愿生西方净土中，九品莲花为父母。
花开见佛悟无生，不退菩萨为伴侣。
May the resulting merit and virtue
be distributed everywhere without discrimination.
May we all aspire to perfect Enlightenment for the sake of all sentient beings.
May we all attain rebirth to the Land of Ultimate Bliss.
May all beings be happy and free from suffering. May peace prevail in this world and all different worlds. 🙏🙏🙏

Transfer from merit can come from a sort of storehouse as told. It can go automatically when meeting a person who needs specific energy now or in the future, transfer can also be directed by a skilful person to someone for whom the energy (thoughts and experiences) might be beneficial.

Sister please make video on how I can increase my belief on amitabha buddha and also my confidence that I can definitely born in pureland.i believe in pureland of amitabha buddha but I have very low belief on myself that I born or not
Ok yes I will do a video about that most importantly is to drop your doubt - if you believe in Amitabha Buddha then u should believe in what he told us so your rebirth is settled if you believe in him and practice Nianfo constantly to seek rebirth, also to learn more about rebirth accounts and perhaps to read the sutras to increase faith. So My family are Theravada Buddhists and I really want them to practice nianfo but they won’t. Can I transfer merit and hope that they will encounter Pureland BUDDHISM in their next life?

Thank you for explaining on transfer of merits after Nianfo. I did my Nianfo in Mandarin but I don't know how to transfer merits in Mandarin as I can't pronounce some of the words. Is there anyway I can access the Hanyu Pinyin version or can I do it in English as shared by you. Looking forward to receive your advice. Tq Amitufuo 🙏🙏🙏

No when we transfer merit we transfer merit towards seeking rebirth to the Pure Land, so make sure you express this intention. You can follow any of the Pure Land merit dedication verses. Amituofo 🙏
