I think this guy did a pretty excellent job explaining Buddhism from a Christian perspective. However, I disagree that Buddhism teaches that everything bad that happens to us is our bad karma. The Buddha clearly denies this in the Samyutta Nikaya scirpture:
“Master Buddha, there are some spiritual figures and religious leaders who hold such a doctrine and view as this: ‘Whatever a person experiences, whether it be pleasant or painful or neither, all that is caused by what was done in the past.’ What does Master Buddha say about this?”
“Some feelings, Sivaka, arise here originating from bile disorders...phlegm disorders ... wind disorders ... from an imbalance of the three ... produced by change of climate ... produced by careless behavior ... caused by assault ... produced as the result of karma: that some feelings arise here produced as the result of karma one can know for oneself, and that is considered to be true in the world…Therefore I say that this view of karma is wrong on the part of those spiritual figures and religious leaders.”
    -Samyutta Nikaya, page 1,279
Also, most Buddhists don't believe that spiritual liberation is a state of non-existence. In the majority of Theravada Buddhists, they believe that nirvana is a state of aggregates that are permanent, rather than consisting of the impermanent aggregates that are in samsara. Only a minority of Theravada Buddhists believe that nirvana is an annihilation of life. And then the Mahayana Buddhists believe that a liberated person should be a bodhisattva--someone who keeps being reborn in samsara but as a spiritually liberated figure that helps others reach salvation.

I'm a theravada buddhist and Buddhism is taught as a class in school ( in every grade). What we believe is that niravana is a form of non-existence. Although, there maybe other theravada buddhist from other countries that have different interpretations of nirvana.

As i understand it, Buddhists are not saying that you can't love your family, be with your family, and cherish your family. All the text is saying is that you should not let your family become the main source of your happiness, that should come from within.

Buddhists say the world God created is an illusion. To not rejoice and gives thanks to the glory of God our LORD and saviour but to turn away, deny all desire, even the desire to be close to God, deny Jesus Christ as the Son of God. To turn inward for salvation, to turn away from God and his love for us. It breaks my heart how many people are deceived by Buddhism.

I think it's selfish to want to avoid suffering. I think as humans, suffering is the most important thing we can endure. But suffering for Christ is true joy because Jesus suffered for our sake, and so too we are to suffer until the world is made new.
Buddhism to me seems like the easy way out because true love requires sacrifice and freewill and SUFFERING. Buddhism is teaching you to behave like a robot so you don't feel pain. Buddhism is impersonal and it is NONSENSE! No literally. It is the belief in nonsense.

Although as a Muslim I think Buddhism is a good religion as instead of trying to give a answer to a cosmic equation that we'll probably never get the a answer to it seems to teach that for every reaction there's as opposite reaction. Good deed carry you in life life well bad deeds destroy your viewpoint on morality. Plus I haven't seen nor head now talked to god so I can't say he exists. Lots of people will probably call me out but if you haven't seen god you than you shouldn't follow everything blindly.

The Buddha's Words on Kindness (Metta Sutta) This is what should be done By one who is skilled in goodness, And who knows the path of peace: Let them be able and upright, Straightforward and gentle in speech. Humble and not conceited, Contented and easily satisfied. Unburdened with duties and frugal in their ways. Peaceful and calm, and wise and skillful, Not proud and demanding in nature. Let them not do the slightest thing That the wise would later reprove. Wishing: In gladness and in saftey, May all beings be at ease. Whatever living beings there may be; Whether they are weak or strong, omitting none, The great or the mighty, medium, short or small, The seen and the unseen, Those living near and far away, Those born and to-be-born, May all beings be at ease! Let none deceive another, Or despise any being in any state. Let none through anger or ill-will Wish harm upon another. Even as a mother protects with her life Her child, her only child, So with a boundless heart Should one cherish all living beings: Radiating kindness over the entire world Spreading upwards to the skies, And downwards to the depths; Outwards and unbounded, Freed from hatred and ill-will. Whether standing or walking, seated or lying down Free from drowsiness, One should sustain this recollection. This is said to be the sublime abiding. By not holding to fixed views, The pure-hearted one, having clarity of vision, Being freed from all sense desires, Is not born again into this world.

    • @calliegal235

So sorry a "Christian" said this to you. It sounds like they have missed some things taught in the Bible. Nowhere does it say in the Bible that anyone is going to the hell of fire for a particular sin. The only thing close to that is Jesus' teaching about blaspheming against the Holy Spirit as being unforgivable.
The Biblical view is that we are all separated from our creator God due to our nature; that alone has destined us for the firey hell, which we are told (in New Testament) is not a place God made for people, but for the evil one, Satan and his followers, referring to the spirit beings who followed him. I think of it as like we boarded a train with a horrific destination, and Jesus has made a way for getting off that train and onto a train headed to him, as the final destination.
However, interestingly, babies and young children who die do seem to go to heaven where Jesus is. What we also know from the Bible is that God looks on people's hearts. Truly those who seek their creator find him. So Jesus told people, knock, and keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you; seek and keep seeking and you will find. He also said God is a spirit and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.
God is also a father who wants a relationship with each of us; he loves each of us.
Jesus claimed he alone was the way to his Father. Was Jesus a good teacher or was he a liar or was he crazy? Was Jesus who he claimed to be?

    I do believe that it is of utmost importance to include the part of Buddha's life story that explains his Royal upbringing. To me, this does many things;
    a) It makes itself a necessarily compelling story for Rich people.
    b) It gives a more accurate and detailed explanation of his character (the problem he had with seeing people suffer, when he lived such a privileged life) and his life.
    But, what I find the most intriguing about the contrasts of Buddha's and *JESUS'* lives is, the Tree symbolism. When *JESUS* was confronted by another Rich young ruler, *HE* ended up telling him to;
    1) Go your way.
    2) Sell everything that you have.
    3) Give it all to the poor.
    4) Return unto *ME.*
    5) Take up your *CROSS.* (Tree)
    6) Follow *ME.*
So the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, has led us to the Tree (Cross) on Calvary, which should inevitably lead us to the Tree of Life? It would seem that the Rich young ruler who tried to justify himself to *JESUS* was not as willing to grow spiritually as the Rich young ruler who went and sat under that Fig Tree.

Yeshua Ben Yosef had some good moral teachings for his time, but he was ultimately a teacher of false doctrines based on fear and the worship of himself as the avatar of a storm/war god from southern Levant. The Tathagata himself defeated false doctrines in countless debates and emerged undefeated, as did many of the great teachers. Buddhists *should* (respectfully) debate Christians, Muslims, and other holders of false doctrines.
Too many Western Buddhists are weak in this regard.

@@thisulwickramarachchi2380 Hello! Sorry for the late response; I am just seeing this now.
To answer your question of why there’s so much suffering in this world, we must come to terms with human nature. In the beginning, we were destined for eternity; however, through the disobedience of man, sin came to be and corrupted the earth. Because sin entered, no longer do we acquire the good God given system. The reason for suffering is because of mankind, the reason for illnesses, corruption, and evil is because of man. Our sin has separated us from God. It is because of our separation from him that there is suffering. But in order to be united with Him again, God gave Jesus Christ, who was the “lamb” that was sacrificed to atone for it. He died but conquered death. When he returns to establish His throne, he will restore his original plan, which is everlasting life; a place where there will be no sin, death, corruption; the former things will pass away. One needs to accept and put their faith in Christ, then you will become born-again.
I can also say the same thing for Christianity having all the answers. One just needs to seek the truth and expand their knowledge, so I am glad that is what you are doing. I am also doing the same by learning about other beliefs. In Christianity we also have the answer to suffering (which is caused through sin), how to solve it, why we exist, and how to attain everlasting life; an answer to defeat death.
Jesus Christ comes to redeem and free you from sin; to give you a new life, hope, and prosperity. If there are some areas you are still confused about, please ask, I’d be happy to discuss :)

Many of the things he said about Buddhism are quite correct except about Nirvana. The goal of Buddhism is to become enlightened and reach nirvana. Nirvana is believed to be attainable only with the elimination of all greed, hatred, and ignorance within a person. Nirvana signifies the end of the cycle of death and rebirth which is called Samsara. In Buddhism, all beings are cycling in the 6 realms of samsara which are Heaven, Asura, Humans, Animals/Insects, Hungry Ghost, and Hell. The lowest realm is hell, and the highest realm is heaven. Heaven has 7 levels. Even staying in Heaven isn't permanent and one has to be reborn again. Only to Nirvana one exits Samsara and ends suffering.

One of the biggest things people do which is idiotic is they think because a religion is from a different part of the world it isn't relevant in their lives, but remember christianity came from the middle east as well as judaism and islam, and also if something is true it is universally true regardless of what part of the world it is native to. It is insanely ignorant to act as though the religion that is most prevalent in the area you live in just happens to the be the correct one that argument doesn't hold any ground. Also preconceived beliefs do not justify something being true. Buddhism addresses the issues that people go through, Christianity doesn't even attempt to address it, it just tells you to let Jesus and or Yahweh to take care of it. I spent 17 years from birth in extremist christianity, I offered myself before the lord that I accepted at that time, I rejected the lust of the flesh and I never received the holy spirit and I never felt connected to god or even drawn to him, I studied the bible all of that time and it never gave me anything I need in life. Buddhism has, and I always look for videos like that and not once has anyone ever given me a good reason to seek christianity. If I am bound for hell I will seek Nirvana and teaching how to achieve it to the damned and demons alike, none are doomed for eternity no matter where a god places me and nothing can take away the ability to find eternal bliss. And I would never want the christian heaven because if it is filled with christians I wouldn't be happy in a place like that with that many ignorant people for eternity.

Buddhism is mostly about "no conception, no worries, just empty your head". And that's ok, if you suffered a lot and in search for therapy for trauma. Jesus teaches us that this life has a meaning, every single step, that we are born to be alive, joyful and strong because each soul matters. And to put our worries in God's hands, to BELIEVE in his power of love (which is inside each of us). WE ARE OUR OWN HEALERS.

In Buddhism you practice and see the Truth for yourself. You are not relying on the books or even the Buddha. Rather you see reality “as it is” for yourself. This is important.
Indeed, the Buddha basically said do not rely on something I have said or what others have said I have said, do not discard common sense.
Make yourself the Light make the Dharma or the Truth of Life your Light.
For me Buddhism is essentially saying to all people of all faiths it is nice to have the sacred texts but it is much better to be a living embodiment of those texts in everything that you do.
      🙏

Proof is not needed. Buddhism is an idea and a goal. Whether or not Siddhartha Gautama existed or not is less important than the ideas conveyed by such a figure. In the diamond sutra for instance:
"Moreover, Subhuti, when bodhisattvas practice generosity, they do not rely on any object-any form, sound, smell, taste, touch, or object of mind to practice generosity. That, Subhuti, is the spirit in which bodhisattvas practice generosity, not relying on signs."
This is true even of the Buddah as a figure itself. Whether or not Siddhartha Gautama is historical or not, be generous for instance.

    No. Yoga is not religion.
Buddha Dharma is a part of Hinduism.
Dharmas don't have conversions, rather have spiritual evolutions.
The creation or the world is about happiness. It is given. However, we do suffer. Buddha deals only with this part - suffering.
    Dharma is not Religion:
Dharmas (Bauddha, Vaishnav, Shaiva, Jain, Tantra, Sikh, etc.) are about seeking truth ‘Satya’ and disciplines of inner progress ‘Yoga.’ Dharmas overlap, learn from each other, and don’t fight. Hinduism is the collection of all the Dharmas evolved in our region. It is a geographical definition, not doctrinal. The central theme of Dharmas is inner and outer Peace. Dharmas are different spiritual paths \ margas \ ways \ disciplines. It is up to an individual to be interested or practice any, all, or none.
Religions (Christianity, Islam, Communism, Fascism, etc.) are brainwashing systems for social control. Each claims exclusive truth, all others evil, and assumes divine right and duty to attack others. Violence is the central theme. Religions are sets of doctrines to believe and sets of commandments to obey, without any questions. This is militarization of society which is the totalitarian control of individuals leading to 'we vs. they', 'we are superior', ‘misogyny’, and 'violence.’

@@jesterruth1238 whats not what????are you trying to claim that Judeo Christianity didn't build the majority of the modern western world????if so you'd be dead wrong....this is a way bigger situation then you appear to comprehend it as,but ill try to keep it direct and as short as possible
First, you're coming at the whole thing completely wrong, one the root of all religions goes long before ppl in the west and east and countries in general....two,every religion goes back to one spiritual truth and knowledge of God and events in the history of the world because we all come from the same ppl, then for a plethora of reasons ppl began to create their own religions....thats also the reason that pretty much all religions of the world have pieces that are the same, because the knowledge was still known from that singular point
your whole the west not having an "original thriving" religion yeah wrong....again like every religion of the world they had roots and a couple of pieces from that original knowledge, but ppl who ended up in the western areas created their own religions the same as the ppl that ended up in whats now China or India and so on
This whole "adopted by the west" thing is ridiculous for multiple reasons....one the teachings of Judeo Christianity always belonged to everybody of the world, its the knowledge that the original ppl had....it was also never a middle eastern thing anyway....Judaism is the following of the knowledge and laws by a tribe/descents of a family line which later other middle eastern tribes "adopted"....Judeo Christianity, yes the teacher was born in the middle east and of that original tribe's line, but his teachings never belonged to the middle east or middle easterners he taught to Greeks and Romans and he said that his followers were to carry the message to all of the ppl of the world....after his death his disciples went to other cities then countries to spread the word as their teacher told them to do
Summary, yes the following of the word and laws of Judaism and Christianity were first done in the middle east, but so what ppl also started in the middle east....the teachings were brought from the middle east to the west and far east and in short the rest of the world and ppl began to follow it,again so what all of culture from everywhere is rooted in the middle east because again the original ppl....western country have created and practiced their own religions just look at history for five seconds and you'll see that,to claim otherwise wise is ludicrous and pushed by ignorant ppl with agendas....also Christianity is the religion of the western world, because 1)the majority of religious practitioners follow it,2)the teachings and values of it are the foundation of the majority of the western world,3)again we all come from the same ppl and the teachings of Judaism and Christianity is the knowledge of the orginal ppl....you can use the phrasing of "adopted it" if you want, but it's actually ppl going back to the knowledge of their ancestors...also
the phrasing of "adopted by the west" tends to go hand in hand with a certain agenda, but even if it was something that was randomly pulled out of a middle easterners ass(like islam)and westerners decided they liked it better then their religions and "adopted" it so what????look at how much the near east, middle east and far east countries have adopted from the western countries and farther more who cares
So you're wrong....also you do realize that "the east" is just a term referring to multiple countries with multiple ppls and religions right????there is no "eastern religion" but multiple religions in the eastern countries, like there are multiple religions in the western countries

No, faith is NOT believing without evidence. God created us as rational beings. Biblical faith is not a leap in the dark. There is plenty of evidence for the God of the Bible and that what the Bible teaches is true. Your ability to think about what I am saying, your ability to see these words with the miracle of sight are just two examples. Do you think that just happened? Anything designed demands a Designer. To the sincere soul who seeks the One who created all things, I promise you, He will respond to the genuine seeking heart. It will not happen overnight, but as you continue to seek Him and read His Word, the Bible, He WILL unfold the truth to you. I did this 50+ years ago, and I promise you, it is true. Also some books that will help: Evidence That Demands a Verdict and I Don’t Have Enough Faith To Be An Atheist are great for starters.

I disagree with the way he talks about karma. That’s a western view of bhuddism. Karma is actually you do bad things and you feel worse about yourself, and do good things and you will feel better. As it is a spiritual bond between you to reach nirvana. Karma doesn’t actually have control over the things you do in your life. Bad thing just happen as do good things. Of course if you surround yourself with good there will be good. Doesn’t mean there will be no bad at all.

Thank you for explaining the fundamental principle of Christianity. I have yet to finish listening to your entire video. Just thought to say that another fundamental point is that Jesus was born free of SIN as He was not conceived in the usual human way. He is not another human who found enlightenment. And He laid down His life, not died due to the physical body's inability to support life any longer. And He conquered death by rising up on the third day and ascended. His birth was prophesied in the book of Genesis. And the bible is complete, not losing the last half. Nor is it based on oral transmission for a few hundred years. It is important that christians know Who and what principles they believe in.

We do know that belief in a creator god does little to alleviate suffering. Suffering is necessary for us in order to learn to live lives of faith rather than fear.
