We aren't yet certain Carter decided to sit out. I hope she was genuinely ill and made to take a game off. If she did sit this game out in protest, it's a terrible thing. Every game is critical in this league -- a game off can make a huge difference for playoff seeding.

Clark makes everyone on her team better with her passing skills and Carter just doesn’t have that. My wife says that Reese used Carter to do her dirty work in the beginning and once Carter started putting 2 and 2 together she realized she was helping Reese be something she really ain’t. And it’s blowing up in their faces now. Carter is a true baller and wants to respect and credit she deserves. But for Reese and Carter the consequences for their actions are coming full circle.

just had a peek at tonight's game play-by-play. Not joking. AR is 1-8 in first half, missed 3 layups and got swatted at the rim by Taurasi. Missed two free throws. But has 8 REB so basically her usual game so far. Oh.. and they're down by 25PTS.

Reese has gotten way, way more credit/attention than deserved. Chennedy Carter is that team's mvp. She should have waited until their next game with Indiana to sit out. Kelsey Mitchell doesn't get enough credit for her team either, but Clark is the better player. The other difference is that Clark is humble, gives her teammates credit, and doesn't constantly crave attention. Angel Reese, however wants that spotlight on her 24/7. It's gonna be a tough 2nd season for AR when the media/league are no longer pushing this (non-existent) "race" for rookie of the year.

@@anthonytaylor7928 It's pretty obvious, but since you asked I'll play along. Mitchell has a higher shooting percentage. She also has fewer turnovers (but that's partially because she doesn't pass the ball to anyone, so she isn't going to have as many). That's pretty much it.
Now, CC scores more points, draws more fouls, shoots more free throws (and at a better shooting percentage), blocks more shots, and gets more steals. And then there's rebounds (CC averages almost 6 rebounds per game, Mitchell averages barely over 2). Finish the stats off with the assists. We know CC dominates there, and Mitchell averages less than 2 per game.
And then CC runs the floor. She's the general/quarterback/whatever. She's the one making the reads and making plays happen. Because of CC's superior playmaking abilities, the defense has to work harder both mentally and physically. And then of course we all can see that teams have gone all out to target/defend/double team CC which also drains them. A couple months ago it was shown that CC ALONE had drawn 57 more double teams off the screen than any other TEAM in the league.
Mitchell is a great player, and I would hope she would stick around, but she's probably the 3rd best player on the team.

ESPN is ridiculous. Chennedy Carter is ranked 12th by the WNBA....Angel is ranked 24th. Carter is by far a better player, which she should be because she's more experienced. They're putting Carter and everyone else on the Sky down claiming Angel is the only reason the Sky is having any success this season, and that the biggest burden to carry the team is on Angel. Mabry requested a trade after the whole stat padding in closing seconds for multiple games happened. Angel chose to go to Paris to train instead of staying and working with her team to help prepare for the playoff push. There are a number of legit reasons Carter would be fed up.

But Mabrey is the one who passed the ball to Reese in the final seconds of the Atlanta game, when the win was secured and it looked as if Carter was just going to dribble the time out. Mabrey yelled to Carter, who didn’t pass it to Reese but instead passed it to Mabrey who, in turn, passed it to Reese, so her friend Tina Charles could foul her to get her to the free throw line and score the points needed for her double-double.

I posted these previously as to how the WNBA, Players, and Media were and still are overhyping Reese and her "DBL DBL (Rebounds and Points) and that it really does not mean anything.
Point 1), Reese is 40% under the basket or she is missing her layups 60%, under 50% at 5 feet or 50% and less than 13% from 9 feet or is missing an incredible 87% of the time
Reese is pulling in 121 OREB and has only made 113 shots on 276 shots, translation most if not all of Reese's DBL DBL were a result of her rebounding one of her bricks and putting up another shot.
My question is was/is Reese padding her stats or is she just not a good basketball player.
Point 2) There have been 6,725 double-doubles in WNBA history by 203 different players, Hardly Special.
Point 3) Double-doubles achieved with points/rebounds assists are much more common in 132 WNBA games there have been 146 points/rebound (1.11) or one every game -
With 144 players in the WNBA - once again it occurs so often and is hardly special as it is a very Common Occurrence.
Point 4) Double-doubles achieved with points/assists are much rarer in the WNBA where 144 players over 132 games there have been only 24 points/assists double-doubles (0.16 per game)
Point 4a) It is less common at one every 6.25 games and of the 144 players Clark has 6 of them or 25% of the total.
Point 5) Even less common for Guards as Clark in just half a season just broke a 40 game Season record for 8 Dbl Dbls points/assists & Dbl Dbls Points/rebounds for Guards, a record that had stood for 27 years
Also worth noting... In the 2023 NCAA championship game against Iowa, Angel was not LSU's best player. Three of her teammates outscored her in that game.
But she did get the most rebounds of her team in that game. 😅😅😅

On 9 attempts a game...thats 5 missed layups per game on average...the rest of her team are a bunch of bricklayers too...lots of rebounds to be had when you and your team can't make a shot

Man, I tried watching the game between the Sky and the Mercury but only made it about 5 minutes before turning it off, because the level of play was borderline amateurish... There were multiple air balls and players just passing the ball back and forth on the perimeter until the shot clock ran down and then throwing the ball towards the net at the last second. It honestly looked like the players didn't know what to do at times, and/or didn't have the skills to execute the plays. It was pretty embarrassing.
I called this weeks ago and commented on someone’s video. There’s no way Carter could take Reese getting all the attention. She is way better than her.

Rebound narrative, doesn't matter if 1/3 of her offensive boards are from her own misses. She gets some of her blocked shots rebounds too. Most shots blocked in the league for her as well. They can ignore how she gets her rebounds, but having that many blocked shots that don't get rebounded by her or her teammates is the same result as a turnover - loss of possession without points.
Angel is working to hold on to her record as the most-blocked player in the wnba.

Bruh... Chennedy Carter is the better player. It is not even close. Remember, when you see stats, you always have to add context. FG%, FT%, etc. Chennedy Carter is a way better offensive player. She has the complete package. She can also play D. AR has no low post-game or mid-range game. You never see her get the ball on the block, make a move, and score. Most of her points come off missed shots and rebounds.

The problem is in the way the "rebound" stat is valued in grading a player. A rebound is useless if does not end in obtaining a point, especially if it comes off your own shot making. In the end you want your team to win or at least achieve an honorable defeat and that can only happen if you score or help in scoring the required points.

A lot of this crap goes back to Weatherspoon for promoting that double double crap and I think she sacrificed Kamilla Cardoso’s development by taking her out of games

I think Mabrey left because of Reese's support in obtaining her double doubles by most of her team and some of the opponents. Hell this whole thing could have been a racket from the very beginning because it does look like the double doubles were more important than the win. I agree about Carter starting to distance herself from Reese. Carter may be past being able to govern herself when stressed. Maybe the agreement for her to play with Sky included a clause that if she got too out of control, she would seek treatment.

Angel just doesn't have a moral compass! She'll do and say anything to draw attention to herself to be considered relevant! She was eligible to stay at LSU for another year. When Caitlin Clark announced her intent for WNBA draft, Angel followed suit, as she knew she would no longer get the attention without Caitlin Clark in the NCAA.
All I know for sure is the Sky's best player requested a trade, which was granted and she now plays for Connecticut, to get away from these two drama queens.

ESPN's list is BS, why is CC so far down at #15, there are names on their that shouldn't be above her, CC is definitely top 10 and can easily be in top 5. CC controls the pace of the game and is an all around better player then most on the list. ESPN hating. CC stats - 19/6/8

Chennedy Carters is one of the best players at her position in the league but once again her mental issues showed up with her dirty hip check on CC and the hateful things she said about her pretty much ruined her career.

It's obvious that both Chennedy Carter and Angel Reese suffer from delusions of grandeur. But Teresa Weatherspoon is driving this bus, and as long as she has the attitude of trying to get Angel to outshine Caitlyn, the problems with Chicago, both on the court and in the locker room will continue. I don't know why Teresa allows her players to focus on seemingly everything but winning ball games. No wonder serious veteran hoopers want out of Chicago.
