  • A mall on its last leg in Cobourg Ontario
    Northumberland Mall
Cobourg is a beach and touristy town and this is the ONLY mall they have.
the mall is still kept very clean and it's fully functional including the bathrooms, light fixtures and such
However, there's no food court, only about 8 shops out of 100 were open
I hope they can bring this back around somehow

I have lived in Cobourg for over 20 years. It all started with Zellers. Cortesis has always been there. Where Sportchack is used to be a cafeteria area, New York fries, A&W, and about 5 more restaurants. There used to be a small arcade in the corner as well. We also had Blue Notes, Urban Planet, Hallmark/Indigo, Bentley Bags, Shoes, it really was a great mall. The vibes were good, every week there'd be Rock and Bowl for teens, bustling at Christmas time, Santa always came for a visit. Amazing memories.

No surprise. Cobourg is a small, out-of-the-way town but an great place to visit. The mall was just as empty when I passed thru Cobourg so many years ago. I am guessing that Cobourg has become an Amazon town where most of the citizens have embraced the convenience of home delivery and limitless online selection.
With the cost of rent, employee wages, possible benefits and security, it is not feasible to own a chain store in towns like Cobourg.. The town should pitch to Amazon and convince it to open a distribution facility using the abandoned mall. It would provide jobs to the younger population of Cobourg and inject some much needed capital in the town.

Yep you pretty much nailed it. The sad thing was that even the McDonald's in town was closed, it was due to worker strike or whatever. The only spit open late night was a Pizza Pizza in downtown. It's a beautiful, clean and well kept town, but most shops wither close at like 4 pm, don't out much effort and the town is a ghost town after 7 pm

You can keep your low wage Amazon warehouse jobs. I don't think that would improve our small city. Just my experience but most people I know in Cobourg make decent wages in health care or work out of town. Currently Cobourg has a few stores; Winners, Michael's, Walmart and GT to name a few. To me, people here don't seem to be horribly materialistic❤ If you want the city...stay in the city.

Because the rent is outrageous in the mall

I was at this mall about 1 year ago. There were 2 other clothing stores that were still open then across from bootleggers. That one you said still had its stock was open then. You wonder how many more stores can close for this place to stay open.

I always wanted to see a video of this mall. Could you also do the malls in Belleville?
