I think Romain's voice being so unique and heavily accented means that a lot of people have to listen to a few of his songs to 'get it'. Once you can hear *him*, the emotion is always beautiful. This song is exquisitely simple and both he and his guitar are filled with emotion. I'm not musical, so lots of guitar solos lose me because I don't understand what ithey're doing or why it's "good". But Romain's guitar sings, it's like listening to a voice.
That's a good analogy. It does sing.

I heard this the day it came out and appreciated it...and then moved on...thinking that was nice enough. Later that night, I was humming it to myself and had to come back the next day to watch it again. Then again, then reactions to it. He's just so talented. In this I hear Romain really give new meaning to “ my guitar gently weeps “. I really hope that people can see and feel in his lyrics “ time after time “, “ crime after crime “, and all we’ve learned here is violence , although “about Gaza” he’s really acknowledging that hate begets hate, violence begets violence. Because it only takes a spark to ignite a conflagration. And then it’s so that “ Home” is gone…for EVERYBODY. I pray for the day when both sides find their humanity and place it above Religion, Politics, and an imaginary line in the sand.❤
Beautiful, haunting, emotional, devastatingly relevant. All from one song, that guitar cries deep emotion in his hands. Love it. Georgia on my mind filmed while busking in Covent garden is also stunning.

I think Romain reached a new level with this song. Loved him immediately when I saw my first Big Push video, and really enjoying the journey he is on with his solo career. Izzy, this reaction made me feel like I was listening to some famous narrator on a BBC show. You're skilled at communicating and warmly engaging. Looking forward to hearing your music.

Glad you are checking out more of Romain's work. So many of his lyrics deal with themes of kindness and memory, and and the most basic elements of human relationships, and his relationship with his guitar is so wonderfully organic it simply amplifies everything.

It was so cold that they were only able to record two takes. His hands were so cold that after 10 minutes he couldn't play any more. To capture such a beautiful performance in two takes is pretty remarkable.

Ren and Romain were roomates for 6 years and never had a fight. That says something about them.

I truly believe Romain speaks through his guitar. It’s saying something too. His most recent release has no vocals and yet I know exactly what he’s saying, and the video itself has haunting beauty in the simplicity.
“The point of no return/disaster/terror….it’s just so relentless” that was so eloquently stated! This was a brilliant reaction! Romain always leans into melancholic themes but as you said it still gives me such joy! His emotional expression is always so raw and he lays his soul bare through his guitar. The whole song is written and sung with such emotion. But this verse hits a cord in my heart….the first time I heard this song I was moved to oh my goodness his voice and then some tears. I think I listened to it repeatedly for a couple weeks straight …each time awe struck.

Hey mate. So glad you revisited some Romain. There’s a melancholy beauty to do much of his work. His use of space, the build up, and of course that wonderful tone from his guitar. I love his facial expressions too, this is feeling, not playing. That solo at the end is simple but stunningly evocative. His recent album release is well worth a listen without even the need to react to it. Just some local music to add to your collection. Have a great weekend.
If you’re ever looking for something under appreciated and magnificent check out some of The Tragically Hips work. Canadas most important band. For someone who appreciates music with some depth I’d suggest the song Nautical Disaster. It may not bump your subs hugely but they are a band that will add to your enjoyment of life.

@@IzzyIzenstain yes indeed. Sadly no longer together but their last concert was broadcast across Canada in 2016. The tv stopped the broadcast of the Olympics to show it and 17,000,000 Canadians stopped to watch. Possibly the most impact any band has had on its home country.
