OOOKAY…. Dave, I cannot express my gratitude to you enough! Just within the last 2 hours ( searching, watching, fixing ) you’ve saved me $500 easy ( and that’s on the VERY LOW END )…. Outstanding content & I don’t think you mean to, but you literally have me laughing my ass off, while my helper questions my research methods…. Effective, efficient, and entertaining! Can’t get any better than that! Thanks a million!!! ❤
Thanks for sharing this "how to"! My husband struggled to change the lights due to his giant hands and our mechanic wanted to charge me $150!! I was able to take out the top two screws in the wheel well, fit both hands and forearms in there to change out the bulbs and put the caps back on!! I'm feeling pretty accomplished! 😁
Thanks again for the great video. Replaced both bulbs in around 20 minutes. The key is having that star bit. Took longer to screw out and back in than changing the bulbs.
Thank you so much. The hardest part was squeezing my arm up in that weird angle to twist the light in/out. Going under the truck is way easier than going over.
Thank you I’m having to change mine and now that I’ve seen this I can definitely see myself being able to change it myself I was gonna grab a cheap one to save money but thankfully after watching this I know what to better look for much appreciated
Hey Dave. Your video was spot on on how to change the headlight bulb. Many thanks. The only thing I did differently was to take the tire off. That gave me a little more room to maneuver.
Hi I just wanted to say I enjoyed your video and tried to diy this but my eyesight wouldn’t give me the confidence to keep going once I pulled back the wheel well thingy. Couldn’t focus either w glasses on or off. It’s a shame bc when i had other cars I could do this myself but gm just loves to make it tough on the diyers. But I really appreciate this video and hope you are doing well.
Thank you for this Dave. I’m a mechanic and work on sprint cars as well. And watched your video and not only did it show me the fastest way you told me the part number so I wouldn’t buy the wrong bulb from that 20 year old at the parts counter that knows nothing. Thanks so much!!!
Thanks for the help. I was able to change out my headlight in about 15 minutes. It just took me a second to figure out how to get the old light disconnected and then to lock it back in the housing.
Thanks! Acadia is quite an engineering accomplishment. Try changing out the AC sensor, or realizing that you have to take off the wipers to change the struts. Cheers!!!
I am an ASE CMAT And GMC really dropped the ball on this Model. I just bought a 2012 Acadia and I'm not impressed by GMC engineering... Idiots a plenty! it's easier to change bulbs on my 2001 Corvette... Although, that vehicle has it's own GM problems. Thank you, I guess I'm going to have to get down on the ground to update these cheep bulbs! Ask me how to polish the plastic lenses, because I figured that out too. ;D Thanks again!
Ya.... not much thought went into this design. Wait until you change the oil. The filter is at an angle and as soon as you loosen it, the oil spills out and hits everything on the way down! Btw I did a headlight video on this SUV, Z they always go hazy!
Hey thanks for the comment. It only seems natural to at it from under the hood. The first time I did it from under the hood and it's no fun that way, as you know.
You're working by feel as there is not a lot of room to get two hands in there or to see what you are doing. Pro tip: make a note of the orientation of the bulb before you remove it. These bulbs have two larger tabs and one smaller tab and trying to find the correct orientation by feel is an exercise in futility. Mine go in at 10:00 o'clock and lock by turning a quarter turn to the right, locking at about 2:00 o'clock. If you don't get them seated correctly, the lights will not focus correctly on the road. It amazes me how car manufacturers don't make these things easier to work on, especially for routine maintenance items such as headlights.
Hey, touching the glass like you were gets hand oils on them which can lead to the bulb blowing. It creates hot spots on the glass. I've seen people wearing nitrile gloves to get around that. I often clean the bulb before installation with alcohol, or a solvent that totally evaporates. What was the plane that you showed?
Great video! We bought our 2013 in June. Finding a few issues by now. Question: Is that a single dual High/low beam bulb, or are there separate high and low bulbs? Thank you for your service as a HEMS mechanic!
Mine is a 2014 with dual filament bulb. I've found that my low beam always burns out first. I'm not sure about a 2013 because the body style changed between years and you know how they like to change things.
@@DoItYourselfDoItRight Yes they do! I just got off the phone with the local auto parts store. They confirmed the same number. 9012? Thanks for the reply!
Update...I was able to swap out both bulbs successfully thanks to your video. It was a real challenge to move the wheel well plastic out of the way in the cold weather. Hopefully I won't need to do it again anytime soon.
Just did this on a 2016 Acadia and it was very hard for me to get the bulb mechanism to lock back into place. The skirting also seems to be less roomy when I peel it back. What year is yours?
@@DoItYourselfDoItRight How did you get the bulb and housing back in the headlight? I can tell I'm back in the headlight, but it will not lock. My headlights emit light out to the sides now and the middle of the road is pitch black lol
I had to reach up in there depending on the side you're replacing with the opposite hand and just wrestle around with it. You'll know when you get it, it'll click in.
Your lucky you didn't have to change a tail light. Somehow water filled up my whole asembly and filled up the bulb with water. Had to buy a propietary bulb from GMC. Has a special heatsink attached to it. At the dealer $72 ! Could not find an aftermarket bulb for it. Someone asked why they make it so hard to change a simple bulb? GM doesn't want you to touch anything. They want you go to the dealer for everything.
@DoItYourselfDoItRight seems like that's a problem with Acadia my mom's filled up with water an then then plastic covering fell off an you can't just replace the bulb it's a like you have to replace the whole tail light fixture we tried just changing the bulb but ran into huge problems

Thanks for showing me how to do this bro. I just did this. Just save some money and I did it less than 20 minutes. 😎
Honestly I don’t care how much you talk. You saved me money and I learned something new so thank you very much ❤
I do have a tendency to talk to much ..... aaaaand you're welcome! Thanks for your comment!
Glad i found this video was able to change it out in like 2 mins. Thank ya sir. Gmc makes everything difficult.

That would definitely help out a lot. I'm just dumbfounded that GMC would make it so difficult to change a common headlight! Thanks for the comment!
It was strategic. They knew most would bring the car back before trying to change it.
Thanks for this video. I’m doing this today on a gloomy Saturday.
No problem man! Check out my other GMC videos if you have any other issues! Thanks for the comment!
So glad I watched a video before trying to change this the old traditional way (under the hood) lol......

Hey thanks for the comment. It only seems natural to at it from under the hood. The first time I did it from under the hood and it's no fun that way, as you know.
Step 1: Disassemble front end sheet metal, remove engine and suspension, cut frame with acetylene torch to expose headlight access area.

where are the gloves , can't touch halogen bulbs- short life span
I'll keep that in mind for next time. Although you gotta feel around up in there and I think gloves might hinder that a bit.

The seals on my tail lights were letting water in but I took and drilled a tiny hole in the bottom corner so it could drain out. No problems since.
