Hauntingly beautiful music and visuals. The dissonant chords and flowing beat, encapsulating the feeling of drowning in sorrow; waves crashing and engulfing your whole being, with nothing to hold onto. But the water also rinses away the tears, water carries the weight and in the end you resurface, cleansed.

Drowning and climbing out of depression. When me and my wife listened to this track for the first time, I told her...
“If music was depression, that was the ultimate score” so deep Mike! We felt it too and other moments in our life’s also. Tearing up just writing this. Your music is so moving and it’s so unreal how connected we all are. Stay strong people, there is hope, you just have to swim to the shore and never go into the deep x

    I'm sorry, Mike.
I've lost 2 brothers to suicide, and I wish there was something I could say to make it okay.
Regardless of your faith, bro, he isn't in pain any more.
He might be gone, but, his memory and influence will live on through his art, and friends like you.
    Love you, Mike.

I love this song and it's potential meaning. To me indicates the beginning of the crossroads that Mike may have faced before deciding to not forget Chester but it's time to move on and not let this tragedy stop him... It's placement on the album right before Promises I Can't Keep is perfect IMO....
Of course this whole album to me is a challenge that it's never going to be perfect but you can't give up and you need to push ahead! It's helped me out a TON!!!

Brooding and Promises I Can't Keep are supposed to be one music with continuity in emotions. Thats why in the album, Brooding transitions with a background noise to Promises I Can't Keep. It's been classic LP since Meteora. You just can't listen to one without the other.

I always liked this track from the album, though it had no lyrics, I think it communicated a lot. I never thought you'd make a video about it, but now I'm blown away. This is SO cool. And bc I like to overanalyze everything, I can also say this was kind of emotional. Life fucks you up and when it's finished you still have to climb back up by yourself (yeah people can help but it's you who have to really want it). And just because you just went trough something doesn't mean it's going to be easy when it's over. It's still and uphill battle.

Little known fact both “Place to Start” and “Make it Up as I Go” started out as LP demos for One More Light but they ultimately didn’t fit the album stylistically

I lost my 15-year-old daughter to cancer in 2003. I have never seen anything that visually represented my grief until today. I cried as I watched the video, and I thought to myself, “That. That is exactly what it feels like“.
Thank you @m_shinoda for putting a visual out there to help people understand what loss of that magnitude really feels like. The falling and drowning and agony and climbing and hope...and repeat and repeat and repeat...

There’s pain in my chest looking at this because I think Brooding is the soundtrack of the last years of your life: the beginning is all calm and peaceful, but then comes the storm, when Chester passed away, and the beat of the song becomes more apocalyptic.. And this part of the video is you, drowning in grief and it makes me wanna cry💔 I’m not trying to understand what you’ve been through, because I can’t, but I just want to say I admire you for the incredible strength you’ve found deep inside you, and I’m so proud of you, words can’t express how much❤️❤️❤️

Mike, Thank you. Thank you for writing the Post Traumatic album. You are sharing your paralyzing and excruciating pain. How can anything important just.... stop? He was taken away, that action cannot be undone in this world. The mere thought of 'moving on' , the brain won't even process, and can feel cruel. That joy can be felt in a life without them? That it is good without them? Petrified from desecrating their importance as we survive. I cannot be grateful for the pain you felt to write this new album. "This is sad, you do not thank fo this"(- Nyturi). I am grateful that you live to write. I am grateful that you are brave. I am grateful that your integrity and humanity are beyond obvious. This healing album for you, heals us as well, from our many different stories.
How deeply you have felt pain and engraved it in sound so we could understand you are one of us...that there is an us. These wounds distorting our personalities, have been from so many different blade cuts, not all one beast. Art's true purpose is for people to communicate, across all boundaries and time to say: "you are not alone, this same thing, this moments of complex consciousness was felt by another human being, here in this moment, we saved for you to feel united with and understood by another human being". As long as the art remains, it holds the ability to heal another broken heart of another broken human being. From the shards of the artist's shattered humanity, it's blood of emotions are engraved in it's host of posterity. This hidden shards in it's host, can be wielded as a blade to sever the ties of emotional bondage of another. Because the art exists and remains, the other beings, however later can be released from the the emotional bondage and suffering a person feels if truly, completely alone.
From the first scream of Chester's I heard in Crawling, back when it was released. The screams. Chester knew that pain. He understood. It was not pure anger or fear, it was something else. Many agents of providence were employed in my return from a destroyed humanity. Among them, were many of your songs as Linkin Park, listened on repeat for hours. They were instrumental (sorry, Brit educated, puns are a must) in releasing me from the isolation as the only person that could feel those exact screams, conflicts, and defeats; relived every time I continued to breathe. You broke the first spell. As a scholar, I may try to dry my tears and perch myself in wisdom. But I won't. In that story, there is no grand lesson. The tear and blood stained handkerchief, no longer white, is no key to anything. What I am or have been, has never been defined by what happens to me, or my collapse at it's pain. I have borne many flaws, misunderstandings, and inadequacies in returning to being true to who I am. Beyond all the steps of learning. I am defined only by what I love and what I chose to protect. I pray to leave out all the rest.
    G-dspeed Mike.
    Megan
Rest in Peace Chester. Or dwarf Hell, with the fury of a thousand suns. It is up to you, in the end.

This is a good representation of post traumatic as a whole. It starts out as a slick look, well dressed meaning everything looks good as a whole, next thing you know he’s in the water and it all seems turbulent and crazy. After a little while he dusts himself off looks back at what just happened and climbs out and up the hill after the experience.

The message in this video is very powerful. It shows how there is a body of water (fermament) that divides the earth from the heavens, as is in the bible. And how this man is trying to get to heaven but is being blocked by this fermament. So he is stuck on this earth to continue with the struggle called life until the day he can get into heaven. We miss you Chester!!!

Very cool parkour moves. I am not a fan of this one as I really love Mike's voice. However it was very impactful on the mind. He definitely delivered the "Brooding" emotion.

Moriganna Brown It disturbed me. It looked like he was drowning himself. And thats what the lead singer from a scottish band did earlier this year. I won't watch it again. 😢

Moriganna Brown I think this music doesn’t have lyrics because you don’t have words to describe what you feel after a traumatise like the death of your best friend
But mike’s voice is so beautiful I agree with you 😉

carol goacher. I thought the same thing. When I was about 3 or so a little boy I played with across the street drown in the river. We lived by a river. I had not known until I began remembering it. I called my Mom one day asking about Paul and she confirmed it all. I had blocked it. This is disturbing to me as well.

Wow,this video is great Mike. This is ART. I can see your feelings. The waves that want to upset, carry away, want to suffocate you. Until you can not stand it anymore and go out. At the beginning you give yourself to your feelings, only later you know that it has to go on. The way forward is steep and difficult. No matter how long it takes to arrive. It goes forward.
Very strong video, terrific Talent Nic Walton. See you soon on 29. August 😊

i disagree actually, i would love to see LP back as a band, just with Mike singing/rapping, i think they could do it, you cant replace Chester so dont even try, i agree 100% with that, but i think Mike and the rest of the guys could make it work, i really do... some of my favourite LP songs are the one's Mike has the main lead on so it's definitely possible, it just depends if Mike and the rest of the guys actually want to do it...
