For the knife making community, this is gold.
wish i had anything more constructive to say than just awesome, but i havent! Awesome!
Jer. We need another video. It’s been long enough. I’m watching your videos twice now. Love the 2x72! ! ! !
So you've just come up with a new idea that no-one has thought of before? Well done!
I think the sign of true intellect and creative ability when it comes to tool making and machining is the man that can solve problems.
Quick tip, if you go slightly small, try knurling that end, the distortion will raise high points that will allow a press fit.
The edge quality is off the charts for a fabricated part like this. Nearly like having a CNC 3D surface grinder. (This IS your job :-) , don't quit and deprive us of you!)
Wow, I would officially nominate that for "Maker's idea of 2018". It makes your amazing grinder concept even more versatile. Nicely done!
I think its awesome that you forged your own solution to your problem.
This is so smart it hurts!!!! You can CNC some crazy templates and it looks like they will translate very well into steel. Definitely a game changer Jeremy.
Thanks!
Also 3D print some templates. Very creative thinking.
I don’t understand why your videos are so rewatchable, but I’ve seen them all a few times just for fun. Hope you are doing well.
As always Jeremy your projects are spot on. I wouldn’t be surprised if a tool company came to you and started having you develop tools for them and called them the Schmidt collection. I know that’s the only tools that I would buy.
It's the simple solutions that always elude me. If there's something that I have to figure out... I've usually found the most difficult way to approach it and my finished product shows it. Can't wait for the next one!
My projects usually start out way over complicated, but after thinking about it in the shower enough times it gets simpler. My original design for a template follower was laughably complex!
where did people think before showers were invented?
That's clever as hell. It's one of those things that after you see it you think, how is this not already an attachment for grinders?
Clever as heaven. (hell has nothing on this).
you are like me, a farm boy perfectionalist, it's uncommon because when learning ad kids around the farm, alot of farmers show their kids how to get the job done the quickest way, not always the best way. This is just one of the reasons I respect your work do much!
Awesome work! I feel like I get slightly smarter every time I watch one of your videos
Really enjoyed seeing that lathe in action. Nice work as always, man!
I've seen one of those wood router bits used to cut aluminium, following a cnc-cut mdf template, but nothing that would do steel. Very impressive.
This opens up a whole new world of possibilities ... you never cease to amaze me.
Dude you have an amusing brain, or you have a bag full of ideas, keep up the good teaching work, thank you and have a nice day.
every time you post a new video, I want to watch more and I end up rewatching a bunch of your other videos.
Thank you for sharing!
Your skills blow me away Jeremy. I wish someone had shown me how to do this when I was your age.
This is a great nonconventional way to get the job done pretty fast!
That's a really good idea
Very clever and well thought out. One tip though, when needing work that has to be concentric on all diameters and down it's length turn a steel plug held in the lathe chuck to a 60 degree point. As long as it's not removed until the jobs finished it with be as concentric as the lathes bearings allow. Then turn the work between centers using a lathe dog to drive it with the leg being driven by one of the chuck jaws. That way the work can be flipped end for end as many times as you want and will be as concentric as your machine is capable of. Few seem to use the technique today, but it's one I'll chose for most shaft type work whenever I can.
A very ingenious idea. Love it and your grinder.
Jeremy Schmidt is always thinking. Great new tool!
Finally a new video from Jeremy! Keep them coming!
I don’t know if anyone has mentioned this little trick. But if you over shoot your press fit, something you can do is put some knurling on the area where the bearing will reside. The knurling marks actually split the difference, so the deeper you knurl into your piece, the tighter press fit you’ll end up with. You didn’t need it here, which is great! But it’s really nice to be able to do if you are working on a part that would take a while and/or cost a lot to make again. Thanks again!
Thanks for the tip!
Just "found" your RUclips offerings 2 weeks ago and I have to say that I am impressed. Your knowledge, aptitude and eye for detail are quite good. Thanks for taking the time to make & post these videos.

Awesome adaptation of the concept. I really have to build one of your grinders one of those days. Love it.
That looks beautiful!
Outstanding craftsmanship!
More beautiful work. Such talent.
Great ideal, that one will really catch on.
As it is said, "necessity is the mother of all invention". Great addition to your belt grinder accessory arsenal.
Your videos are always inspiring!
Dang, Jeremy. You have a gift. Excellent!
Once again you amaze me Jeremy.
Awesome Job! Love the South Bend Lathe.
Jeremy, the more I see of your grinder and the fixtures you come up with, the more impressed I am. Keep it up!
that is super cool. freaking love your videos and that belt sander! Keep up the great work.
your inventiveness has no limits! keep it up!
I think that for a machinist you have very clean hands and nails :)
But the attachment is very smart and I wonder why no one thought about it before.
Great job!
Fantastic idea, well done.
Great job. You have become quite a master of the belt grinder. I look forward to your next video.
Jeremy. Just watched this series of videos. Wow what a great tool to have in any shop. Cheers
Awesome job, Jeremy, you are an inspiration to all of us.
So good! I'm all about the templates, so I love this idea. Well done!
That looks soooo useful! Nice job!
Simple idea, well executed. You have a wealth of talent.
Really cool stuff Jeremy! I loved all of the shots you showed with the metal lathe.
Brilliant as usual Jeremy, love your in-depth but still short style of videos. Brings out the creativeness in others!
Excellent innovation Jeremy,
Things are getting artistic now. Great job!
Your precision skills have always impressed me. Great video. Your custom tools are very cool.
That's slicker than snot on a doorknob. Very clever.
I love your videos. Thank you!
I love the creativity and the straight forward videos. Thank you! Subscribed.
That metal working lathe is a real bonus in your shop. Very empowering to have the ability to create like that. Well done.
Your videos always keep my short attention span entertained. Such a good idea.
Another nice video Jeremy! 👍🏻 Really like it when you show doing lathe work! 👏 Thanks for sharing!
Well done again Jer, excellent as usual
Brilliant--as usual. You have some great ideas and you do an excellent job of implementing them.
Another great idea brought to life and recorded for posterity! Great video, Jeremy!
I continue to be impressed with your videos and innovation. Congrats.
You need a cnc plasma table. My dad and I built our plasma table. I do similar projects to you, and actually made "links" for a sizing press (shown in one of my videos on youtube) which are plasma cut and then finished on my dad's 2x72 grinder. Since my sizing press uses 2 links, I bolted them together and finished them free hand. Your template setup would work even better and a steel template would likely work as well. I do not have a belt grinder and ran across your channel while researching them. Your's is the best design I have seen and even though I can use my dad's grinder any time, building a copy of yours would be a very rewarding and useful project with more options than the expensive brand he has. Great videos and channel. While my builds are very similar to yours (I'm likely older than you and have a bit more experience), I got a degree in still photography and haven't really done any video and am not excited about being in front of the camera. We would probably have a blast, given the chance to work on a project together. I really enjoy seeing your builds.
An excellent idea very well implemented.
Yet again sir you changed up the normal and created a awesome tool! Well done sir!
I am very impressed with your ingenuity well done
A really precise jig and well explained. Great work mate
Very cool. Love that belt grinder (and it's videos) too. Cheers!
Very clever thinking .Thanks for sharing.
Wow, that's brilliant! Just stumbled across your grinder gen 1 video the other day and here I am a day later and I've watched them all! Great stuff, love your style and methodology.
You make it look so simple, great execution on a great idea!
your tools and machines are brilliant....your brain is fantastic!
That's a really neat solution. Very clever.
Bad ass brother always impressed with the things you come up with!

Great idea and well made too!
Damn dude. I didnt think i was gonna be that into this vid but everything about it was great. You did not only a great job on the small wheel holder but an equally impressive job on the video. Well done and informative thank you
It's really interesting to watch how you fill out the various niches for your belt grinder. Well done.
Brilliant idea Jeremy!
I only found your youtube channel yesterday, only watched 3 videos and I will definitely be implementing some of your ideas in my shop. Makes me wonder how many more brilliant ideas are waiting in your other videos.
Great idea. You have the best problem solving mind.
Fantastic job. You truly have an engineer's mind.
Love your videos man, you're so inventive !
Keep on going Jeremy 👍
Your beltgrinder is turning into the most advanced one of them all 😊

Your vids are very relaxing to me
Definitely a time saver , i use to make a template and mark around with a scribe and following the mark i grind free handed
i think i always enjoy your videos and cant wait for the next one
Fantastic video as usual, The template follower is genius, you got a good point there that it's kinda odd there isn't a metalworking variant, I'm glad to see you made your own!
Very clever idea !
