Mom was still alive, Dad as well. She likely had this on while she made him lunch and he puttered around the house. We grown children were off on our own, thinking it would all go on forever but, of course, it didn't. Call your mother and tell her you love her, tell your father thanks for all his years of hard work.

For me this is classic all my children- imo the late 70s to late 80s is my favorite period of the show- those were my childhood years and my mother watched all my children - amc along with ryan’s hope and one life to live were comforting memories of my childhood- my mother was a stay at home mom during my childhood and before i started school i have a lot of fond memories of being home during the day and these soaps being on the tv - it really was a sweet time to be a child then - an added bonus are all the retro commercials from that time

I watched episodes of AMC when I was 12 and it was in black and white. Erika was supposed to be in HS. Fast forward to this episode, I was 21, married, going on 9 months pregnant with my daughter. My 2 year old son would take a nap when this soap came on so I could watch it in peace or while folding laundry. Life was so different then, we were not rich but I was able to be a stay at home Mom (during initial years) and it WAS a job. That house was immaculate, my husband’s lunches were packed, toys were picked up, I always quickly vacuumed b4 he got home, the table was set, dinner at 6pm. Boy have times changed! I miss this soap….it was quiet, ridiculous, fun but dealt with serious topics too.

Kindhearted Donna was a good friend to many in Pine Valley, including several females who would marry the same men that Donna did (including both Edna and Estelle, who married Benny; and Natalie, who married Palmer). In the 1970s my mother watched a couple of soap operas and on some days (sick day from school, summer vaca, or a winter holiday) I would linger nearby and check out the stories. It does not take very long to get involved emotionally with characters and to enjoy where the writers take them. Eventually I was hooked. Then I discovered As the World Turns, and also Guiding Light. When the VCR became a household thing, it made life better so you didn't have to miss a show ... the timer was a blessing, as was the fast-forward button for commercials. After college, I basically stopped watching the soaps, although I would tune in to AMC once in a while during the 1990s just to see who was doing what with whom. Nice memories.

I am guessing this Tara is played by Mary Lynn Blanks. Tara was always a very real source of anxiety for Donna. Chuck just couldn't get her out of his mind completely. I personally never understood why Tara and Phillip hung around as characters as long as they did. Tara was played by four different actresses and I have no idea about how many actors played Phillip. By 1978 or earlier, their storyline was more or less dead. I vaguely remember it was one of the reasons that Nina and Cliff were appeared around June 1979 as the new young love couple storyline. Nina was 17 supposedly when she first appeared and turned 18 at her big costume birthday party. Cliff as the doctor intern was several years older in spite that they both looked about the same age. Regardless, they took off as the young troubled lovers. I don't know what the hell they did with Tara in the end but Phillip had not been on the show in years and then finally he died. I remember Ruth being in her mourning duds and honestly by that time who cared?

wow, i totally forgot about those kids playing tad and charlie, and that Charlie was the brat and tad the good kid (those roles would be reversed when Michael Knight came on board as older Tad). Some pretty terrible acting in that scene except for charlie. I was in college during these years and would catch this show while I ate lunch. Grandma was alive then, probably watching this very episode, and everyone in my family was happy and healthy and so were my friends. I want to go back

Backstory: Tom Cudahy was a famous football quarterback who's career came to an end after an injury. He was a crowd pleaser. Buddies with all the resident men, made women residents go wild. He opened up the appropriately titled Goalpost bar and Grill looking for hostesses and among two of many of the young female applicants were Brooke English, Dr. Charles and Phoebe's niece and Mona's daughter Erica.9who'd already married twice) From that moment on those 3 had a history for the rest of the shows duration as you know....it would have been great if Tom and his African American wife Livia who he finally found happiness with would have came back to PV to have one last blowout with all their longtime friends.

I didn't start watching AMC until 1979. I remember when Ann was introduced in the "sanitarium" & she was played by Gwyn Gillis. I was not familiar with Ann at all & remember on "Nightline" the story of how popular soaps were back then. Part of the story was showing actresses auditioning for the role of Ann. I just remember how Gwyn really hit the nail on the head far better than the others. How much of that was "doctored" up, who knows, but I did like Gwyn--excellent actress.

Judith Barcroft was fabulous in anything she did. She left AMC in May 1977 right after the series expanded to an hour. She had appeared in a special trial week of hourlong AMC episodes in 1975 and found the added work too exhausting. When it was announced that AMC would permanently become an hour soap, Judith chose not to renew her contract. Ann was institutionalized after a suicide attempt and didn’t appear for two years. Gwyn Gillis took over the role in the summer of 1979, just in time to screw up Paul’s growing relationship with Ellen. Gwyn was a lovely actress, too. She did her best, but she and Bill Mooney didn’t click the way he did with Judith. I would have sent Ann off the canvas. Killing the character off so violently after all of the travails she suffered seemed cruel. Agnes Nixon’s tendency to kill the nicest legacy characters on AMC and OLTL never sat well with me.
