    34:31 is what won Susan her Emmy. That reaction is equal parts terrified and brave. This scene is still the only one of its kind in daytime, and Susan rose to the occasion.

    This is why AMC will always go down as one of the best soaps in history. The emotional and social relevant stories that they told is what is missing in today's soaps. The actors in this episode were the vets that would all loved and paved the way for so many others. Thank you Agnes Nixon!

    • @cajayson8301
      @cajayson8301 8 месяцев назад +3

      Yep! I loved how so many of their social relevance stories reflected on current events:
      1. Phil going to Vietnam as the Vietnam War still raged
      2. Erica's abortion after Roe v. Wade (I'm ignoring that hideous unabortion story McTavish thrust upon us poor viewers. Such a slap in the face to all that Lucci and Nixon brought in that trailblazing plot)
      3. Cindy suffering AIDS during the AIDS epidemic
      4. Jesse/Angie as the first Black supercouple amidst a period when African Americans gained more recognition in entertainment
      5. Terrence's racial beating shortly after Rodney King
      6. Jamal "divorcing" Alec was based off a real event
      7. Chandler Enterprises economically suffering during The Great Recession of the late 2000s/early 2010s
      8. Bianca/Reese marrying in Connecticut right after Connecticut legalized gay marriage
      And other great stories which handled social topics with care and responsibility: Bianca's anorexia, Bianca's rape, Bianca coming out, Michael Delaney coming out, Ceara's incest, Mona's cancer, etc.

    Whew! Just as emotional as I remember. I forgot about this episode, but I watched it once a few years ago and still cried. The ending where Bianca just unloaded so much truth on everyone was heartbreaking. I may be in the minority, but I was still more impressed with SL's acting during that Woman of the Year speech where she was high on painkillers and ripped everyone in the room a new one. Then she broke down at the end saying she missed her mother. I think SL should of gotten an Emmy for that, but better late than never lol.

    Anorexics don't do what they do for just one reason. This is an extreme response to trauma. Also, some think it's as simple as weight restoration. It's absolutely not. It's definitely more complicated than telling someone to just eat or to get over it. Props to the writers and cast though. Also, "healthy" is one of the worst words you could say to an ED sufferer. Healthy translates to "fat" for some sufferers.

      I'm sorry but let's not forget that this is a soap opera. Yes. They talk about social issues but first and foremost, it is meant to be entertainment. They are never going to hit the mark 100% as far as education because they have to cater to viewers and garnish ratings. And I don't mean that as an insult to you. Those are just the facts.

      mm 12 that’s cause they aged her in 2000 to 16. So it’s suppose to imply u overlook those things and they ignore it or act like when something happens a few years before they aged a character, it was years and years ago when they were little. She was born onscreen in 1988 so it’s 1998 here so she’s 10 but in 2000 when she’s suppose to be 12 she’s 16. They did the same thing to Miranda on the prospect park episodes. The show ended in 2011 and Miranda was born in 2004 so when it ended she was 7. In 2013 when it got picked up again, it was set 5 years after 2011 so 2016 so she should have been 12 but was aged to 16. That went for Aj too as they were born on the exact same day and year. It’s a way to use the characters more as kids can’t be worked more than 4 hours a day.
