This is such a beautiful and inspiring story, but there's another part of Bessie Coleman's legacy that's sure to tug on the heart stings. Even after death, Bessie continued to inspire countless Black women to take to the skies, and eventually, the stars. When Dr. Mae Jemison became the first African American woman in space in 1992, she carried a picture of Bessie Coleman with her, taking the woman who inspired her even further than she had ever gone before

@@hannatude Oh I got it, I've seen similar comments "it's not Shane, it's the Professor" before, but all I'm saying is that just because someone hasn't appeared on the show doesn't mean they can't work behind the scenes.
I'm not a black person, but I'm Asian. Yet, as the Professor told the tales of how Bessie Coleman stood up for her beliefs of equality, I can't help but tear up. She's such a wonderful example of standing firm for your beliefs and rallying equality for her own people. What a wonderful, inspiring badass of a woman indeed.

That we do mate, Ryan made a terrible mistake in season 4, but it also seems that the Professor is finally realising that he wasn’t entirely guilt free in causing it, I’m really looking forward to when we can get the real Professor and Ryan back together again.

@@babyvia6712 I’m not victim blaming here, but the Professor was knowingly rigging his show against Ryan and delighting in doing so, also as stated before, Ryan never intended for the Professor or anyone else to get hurt, the Genie tricked him and broke their deal, this isn’t a case where one party is guilty and other is completely innocent, both Ryan and the Professor let their formerly friendly feuding go to far and it had unfortunate consequences, the fact that both of them now seem to realise it shows us that sometimes, history doesn’t have to repeat itself.
The *ABSOLUTE DISRESPECT* from New York and Florida Times. This lady is badass for flying in those dangerous planes.
Considering that the Florida Times is located in good ole Jacksonville, I am not surprised. Things have changed but there's still some things that are the same down here.

This episode made me cry. Bessie sounds like an amazingly strong woman and it absolutely killed me that her accomplishments weren't recognised in her lifetime

i think this is the first time a puppet history ep almost made me cry a little. bessie was such an amazing woman, cheated out of so much, even after her death. it's gratifying to hear a school was finally opened in her legacy!
I read this comment midway through the ep thinking I would not cry, and then the “like all pioneers she has built her own monument” quote came and I did
Yeah the thing that got me to tear up was William J. Powell opening a school named after her. Even if the privileged buried her story, she lived on as an important figure in her own community. What a woman ❤️

@@ricebunny0234 I mean that’s a sweet sentiment, but considering The Professor said “Ryan, thanks for tryin” all last season and Ryan still made a deal with the Genie (I guess it was through the Devil but still) I doubt that’s anything. I think it was just The Professor teasing Ryan, maybe from his perspective in good fun. But Holo-fessor not having that as a code phrase makes sense considering he screwed up the “C-dogs” bit in the previous episode.

The fact that this woman is from my hometown is such a flex! She's a goddess also the fact the professor says Waxahachie correctly is the best gift ever.
Do they have any memorials of her or is her story in the towns museum/library? She deserves it especially with the kinds of planes she was flying! Incredibly inspiring.

The fact that I heard of Bessie Coleman from Doc McStuffins of all places really says a lot about our education system. Thank you Professor for bringing up this and many other important if forgotten pieces of history! Really hope there's nothing sketchy about that box XD

I think it's the genei taking on the Professors form and the box is how he keeps it up

I assumed that the lotion was a Silence of the Lambs reference. Of course that would mean that "the Professor" (if it really is him) intends to turn Ryan into a meat suit...ew.

Is it possible he could be referring to the Dino parents? It'd be really weird considering what we think the lore is right now, but you never know!
Anyone else kind of loving seeing the professor have a family? Like, he's legitimately calling them "dad" and "mom" and they've fully accepted that he's their strange son who is also from the future and knows all this stuff but they can teach him stuff too!
Just a small appreciation of the fact that @22:33, the Hollywood sign says “Hollywoodland” which is historically accurate but also such a small detail that most wouldn’t pick up on or even care about. Props to whoever put that in - you are doing a very good job!
Also as someone who is finding the world to be a very sad place at the moment, this series always makes me happier. The song at the end is always a bop and it’s a wonderful escape where I feel good that I’m not just mindlessly consuming content but learning and having a good time. Good job and thank you! A gold star for everyone ⭐️
The Dinosaurs are the best characters. I love that the Professor is just like ok, you’re my parents now. They’re so soft. The best found family.

Very cool crossover: Ida B. Wells, acclaimed investigative journalist, held a memorial for Bessie, and the same person who is a close friend of Jane Addams, from Hull House featured in Ghost Files! I'm learning a lot you guys - and doing some research myself, I'm also learning about the important work they've done. Hope I read more about them in the Puppet University newsletter perhaps? Great episode!

Ryann Graham’s joy while listening to the song was absolutely infectious. And much needed after the sad ending to Bessie’s story.
Ryan Graham and Kate Peterman are my absolute favorite guests of all time, their joy is SO contagious
I love Puppet History teaching about Black/POC historical figures that are otherwise not discussed in the average curriculum. It would be so cool if they expanded on that by teaching about LGBTQ historical events, such as the assassination of Harvey Milk or Stonewall, as well as Black/POC queer historical figures like Marsha P. Johnson or Sylvia Rivera!
I would kill for an episode on Stonewall. Puppet History really is teaching more and better history than the schools (though that bar is 6ft under the ground).
I love how the professor is messing with Ryan by finally have him win but the prize not being the coveted cup of the history master

The one thing I just noticed when comparing this season of puppet history to the older ones is the coloration of the professor now in comparison to the past. Like now he has grey hair and his eyes look different. When in the older seasons he was bright blue and had magnificent red eyes.

They airdropped flowers to her grave here in the South Suburbs of Chicago every year for a long time after her death. I always thought that was amazing and a lot of commitment for largely no one to notice.

I think Stanley Melvin Murphy wants to be reunited with his dear Dorothy Ruth
I'm hoping that Dorothy Ruth can connect to him through her seance. Maybe he can inform her about what really happened to the professor and how the puppets are all trapped in purgatory. Perhaps she and Ryan can work together to bring the professor back.
The return of Ryann! Fell in love with him during the Hatsheput episode. So glad to see him back and in such a cute outfit too!

They are adorable! I love how they are so willing to learn from their son! Slso I love how the professor calls the pterodactyl dad! Even though he has his past memories, the professor loves and recognizes the dinos as his parents!

Its funny how despite all of the great gags, dark humor etc., what always gets me the most to this day is when the professor simply turns and stares at Ryan with those souless glass eyes. (Which always somehow manage to look blank, yet pissed off at the same time.)

Bessies story is incredibly inspiring. She was so strong and used her popularity as a means to support others and make change. She truly is amazing

so happy to see Bessie Coleman covered!! I wanted to be a pilot *so* bad when I was growing up ‘cause of Coleman, my mom made sure I knew about her and how much of a badass she was. I even knew how she passed going into this, but it still makes me tear up to hear, y’know? I’m so glad people are learning about her.

How could we forget? 😜😂 The whole time, I've been wondering about all those poor little puppets just hanging out in purgatory making their little shows during the Professor's celebration of life service cuz God and the devil don't know what or how to do with them. Although ....God and the Devil are puppets too! 🤔🤨 Oh, these Puppet History folks have left is with so many questions!!! 😩
@@sigridhorn2408 oh wait - what happened to the horse was the real horse and his lovely horse wife and muse, Dorothy Ruth died as horses in real life when they were real horses, but then the puppets who portrayed them or the puppets they turned into to portray their real life selves on puppet history reenacted their real life deaths and entry into the after life where they'd been until they were turned into puppets for puppet history and then got stuck in purgatory after the puppet party the genie and devil hosted to poison them all but that the professor didn't attend.
