The first story is the most timely: I’m recording this on Sunday, and a new performance of Paul McCartney was broadcast last night. It was from the Global Citizen event supporting the efforts in uniting to end the current crisis. Paul played a cool rendition of Lady Madonna, a clever choice compared to stalwarts like Let It Be or Hey Jude. … And co-host Jimmy Kimmel dropped a big truth bomb at the end of the song: I’ll take this opportunity to echo Paul’s support and praise of health care workers at this time. Thanks y’all.
Next up, a quick update on the new Get Back film project. If you’ve kept up with recent episodes of Beatles News, you know we’ve talked a lot about the new film. Check out the video linked at the top of the screen now if you need a recap.
So, Paul McCartney appeared on the Howard Stern show, calling in on April 14. The interview was fairly long and it’s mostly a love-fest from Stern, who threw plenty of softballs Paul’s way.
Don’t be surprised if the previously announced September date for a theatrical release gets pushed back due to the current crisis. An exclusive release on Disney Plus could be an option, but with the hype this project has already gotten from Apple Corps, I don’t think that would excite anyone.

Next up - I want to note that we just marked the 50th anniversary of the public breakup of The Beatles…. And that’s all I have to say about that. (APOLLO 13 CLIP)
Alright, the next story is about something that doesn’t happen everyday: a brand new photo of the proto-Beatles band, The Quarrymen, has come to light. The image, from late 1959, shows John, Paul, and George - guitars in hand - in the Liverpool home of Mona Best, mother of Pete Best. While there are a few other photos from this era of the band, anything new from Beatles related events that took place 60 years ago is astounding. The good folks at Tracks Limited tracked down the photo and it sounds like it will be available for purchase in the future. Kudos to Mark Ashworth of the “There Are Places I Remember” blog for his ace detective work.
This episode of Beatles News has been pretty heavy on Paul McCartney, so here’s a new photo of Ringo Starr in a surgical mask. Nice.
OK, so back to Paul. His handwritten lyrics to “Hey Jude” have sold at auction for $910,000. Julien’s Auctions sold the piece to the winner after 16 bids. The initial estimate was low at around $170,000, but I don’t know if anyone expected it to near $1 million US dollars. This lyric sheet was used during the recording of the song at Trident Studios, London, in July 1968. Most super fans will already know that the song started out as “Hey Jules” as a note of support for Julian Lennon during his parent’s split, but the lyrics here - in final form - clearly show Hey Jude. I’d say this item is priceless, but it’s clearly not.

@Justin Z. I mean there is not much you can do with a song like 'Maybe I'm Amazed' and there are actually three more versions to it but all of them are slideshows.

When I was a kid and I was stoked for my preorder of The Beatles Rock Band on Xbox 360 (with the Lugwig Drums and Hofner bass controllers!) it was scheduled to release 9/9/09. I told people it would hilarious if they delayed it one day so it could come out “one after 909.” ... no one got my joke. 😭
All interesting and no "skip-overable" filler. This channel consistently delivers useful and interesting content, and keeps the pace, and unlike many channels I find it to be extremely rewarding with respect to my personal time expenditure. Thank the FabFourArchivist for taking the extra effort to keep it punchy while efficient.

"Speak for yourself" - that's literally what "I don't think" means. 😆 I'm just saying, a "direct to streaming" release won't do the film justice. Put it on the big screen!
(To be clear, this is about the Peter Jackson doc, not the re-release of the Let It Be film. There have been no dates mentioned for that one.)

I’ve never seen Help! or A Hard Day’s Night on the big screen and I’m ok with that.
An action movie or something like that would be best on the big screen, but as long as you see it, that’s all that matters.

Regarding your double A-side video - which you trailed in this - you made an odd error in the commentary. The Beatles did release UK singles (and B-sides) from their early albums: Two singles from Please Please Me, two from A Hard Day's Night, and one from Help!
What movie is that clip from. The one about the beatles breaking up.

Paul has said that Lady Madonna was inspired by Fats Domino, hence the vocal style in the original version. This One World -version was very much Fats Domino style!

As if he's an amateur struggling to get through the song. I can hardly recognize its structure.
He's like forcing himself to make the composition sound even more clever than it already is.
I expected him to be the highlight of the event, but I think The Rolling Stones did a better job this time.
He has nothing more to prove, yes his vocals were awful last week, but go back to 1969 and check out his vocal on the 'Oh Darling' remix or the 'Helter Skelter' vocal from the previous year, that is gut singing at it's absolute best...think about it, he has been singing his lungs out for 60 years. The performance last week doesn't matter, it was all about the intent.
Frankly I hope I sound as good as Paul does when I'm 77. Yeah, his performance wasn't up to the standards of the 1960's and 70's Paul McCartney -- but after all this man has given to the world in the past six decades, I can give him a pass on this one.. and yes, terry's right.. the intent was the main thing.
I love your channel, but it has not been 50 years since the Beatles broke up. The band was not formally dissolved until January 1975.
Sure, but - man - that's splitting some already-fine hairs. There's legal and then there's practical. Note the headlines of "PAUL QUITS THE BEATLES" that came out in '70, and the letter that came with the McCartney LP.

So sorry to say that Paul's Lady Madonna was pretty awful. He's really not doing himself any justice. Live Aid was problematic, although not his fault, London Olympics opening OMG Nooooooo Paul!!! and now the Lady Madonna nightmare. This genius should treat himself and his incredible legacy with more respect.
Desperate to him in his prime again with John, George and Ringo in the re-edited Get Back movie - The original Let it be movie was a terribly sad reflection of it all going wrong.

@@kerryallen4665 Oh no i understand. I grew up with the Beatles and all the solo albums. Saw Wings in 1976 McCartney 1989 1993 2002 George Harrison 1974. So i'm being honest, his voice is going and that's it. I'm sure he will tour into his 80's if he feels like it.
I thought his performance at the London Olympics several years ago was so poorly sung that it made me cringe.

I see what he was trying to do, but still...
I see both sides here. Paul clearly knows he’s not in his prime anymore, so he reworked the song so a different vocal approach wouldn’t stand out. But short of a time machine, the only answer is for him to not perform anymore. I don’t know if the world is ready for that.
