We are expecting a new build today so I look forward to diving into that one. Like I said in the video, I'll be around on my DIscord if anyone has questions about how things are going as I do my testing.
Let me know how you feel about the changes you are hearing. Are you bothered by the additional time that will be spent equipping characters and loading cargo? Or are you interested in these changes and what they will bring to the game further as it is fleshed out?
Remember that teamwork is they key to long term success in such a complicated MMO like SC. If you are looking for a group of like minded individuals to take part in complex combat operations such as Naval Warfare. Be sure then to check out our Org The Forgotten Heralds.

At this point.. I'm just surprised we still don't have a way to toggle off icon view for inventory when a detail list with text would do just fine. The more items you have, the more you'll end up having to scroll because those icons just take up so much space. More surprised we're losing features like the search, double clicking to move items, etc.. and we're on the third iteration of inventory.
I wouldn't mind the complication if the UI wasn't fighting against me too.

I love it. As the game becomes more real and intelligence led I appreciate it more. Love your insight on this, really well laid out review.
I love the fact that these changes make the game more real, and drive out the twitch players who are only here to blow up everyone they meet. I can’t wait to play more toward the vision of what the game is, which is a large MMO space sim that promotes interaction OTHER than shooting at each other. This patch is a huge step toward that.

Been playing ever since the first build of SC was available. I am having overwhelming feelings of selling my account and never touching this game again lol i am so burnt out of and over CIG's nonsense. I am not going to spend hours and hours moving my shit around in regards to inventory and cargo. The game is already the definition of time sink, im not going to spend more of my time in built in time sinks. When i get home from work or have a free day on the weekend, why the hell am i going to spend that role playing a Walmart isle stocker?

I can understand your position, however a hardcore direction was always the way they were planning on taking the game. We've known this for years now as per many of the 10 for the chairman CR videos. This is the reason why I've been trying to remind people of this time and time again since people seem to forget and end up getting comfortable and in some cases, spoiled with what we had prior. I recommend you still give it a try, or better yet, play with an organized group. After playing today's build it really is not that bad setting things up, it just requires a few more steps to learn. After which you get used to it and not notice it as much.

@@HybridVAudio I don't disagree with any of that. But, none of those had to do with my comment re: master modes, and how it was clearly a neutering of the flight model. I like the idea of not having inventory everywhere, but I think the kiosks are just one more time sink for the game. I have not been able to get much time in the tests yet (first patch I was CTD every 5 minutes and wasn't home for the 2nd), but the little time I did get, I was having issues getting it to work. And with the automated loading the time's are WAY to high, even for testing. I think they need to get more people to play and do the manual loading, and figure out the mean time it takes, add 10 minutes or so and set the auto loading to that.

If they actually continue improving the new system it does have potential to get much better than the current one. Maybe in the future we'll be able to setup sets that we can call in our hangar. Could be something like in Arma 3 for example, it would then give you everything that is available from what ever kit you choose. Maybe even just bring in what is missing from what you already have on.
Of course knowing CIG, this might take 3 years or so if they now started planning it.

the best solution is to keep the local inventory system we currently have, but to restrict its access to kiosks. after that just delete the local inventory from outposts.
as for automated loading, i think having a 5-container per minute rate for a 25% profit cut is fair. then allow to buy higher load rates (up to maybe 20 containers per minute?) for up to a 75% cut in profits. and a different scale entirely for ships like the Hull-C

The real question is to know if you can do something else during automatic loading just as you can do with the refinery. If you are stuck in your hangar, it is really bad gameplay. You should be able to go play other missions on solo ships or go inside the town while the loading is done. You should ask directly at the selling center for automatic loading that would occur while you are coming back in the metro in cities. The huge timesink would still be an issue though at outposts.

With the manual loading, old cargo ships using a lot of small boxes instead of only the big 32 SCU containers as all new ships are simply dead. Old cargo ships with the same cargo load than a recent one will take two or three more times to load just because of the number of boxes. A couple of things to keep in mind. Right now, you can only do manual loading at a POI trading outpost. And manual is always faster than auto of course. Currently, as of my testing, the TDD is where the timers are at. One could posit that this is not to dissimilar to the timers for refineries. But again, I'm not a hauler by trade so I cannot make a solid 1 to 1 comparison from experience.

Also (this is admittedly an oversimplification, for which I apologize)
After listening to the comments about how inventory changes and new time-sinks make this much more of a "simulation" and "hardcore game", combined with some soft defenses of that (fair enough), I can't help but think of the contrast between that and your comments here, and on Master Modes compared to the prior flight model; where you enthusiastically supported master modes as more user friendly and less punishing.
So, players should not be expected to invest time ACTIVELY PLAYING in order to learn/master a flight model that is central to the entire game, but...we totally should accept investing brain numbing amounts of time doing nothing but twiddling our thumbs because.....consequences are good.
    Got it.

@@FutureProp This is my primary gripe. A lot of CIG's decisions don't really do anything to make the game more of an immersive sim or more difficult, it just makes things more convoluted and confusing for new players and makes things take longer.
It's really not hard to prep for almost every contingency in SC. Everybody can carry guns, tractor beams, and a variety of medical equipment on their person without really making any difficult choices. As a result I come out of my respawn knowing exactly what I want but then spending ten minutes or so getting around to actually getting it equipped. I'm not planning, I'm just...going through the motions. That's not hardcore gameplay, that's just a hardcore timesink. There's a big difference.

As Evocati myself I like the idea of it, but it does feel rather clunky for FPS items. But thats just in comparison to what we've been used to so far.
Once we can persistently store armor and weapons in habs I think that will help a lot with speed and organization, if having an initial longer set up time.
Some improvements to the interface and its responsiveness, like double-clicking to move to the drawer, and a search function like you mentioned, would also go a long way to improving the experience.
Though now that I have gotten a little use to it and knowing how the warehouse interface works I know where to find my few items and retrieve them fairly quickly, though still not as fast as the instant access we had before.
Its certainly more immersive but,a s with a lot of things in SC, still ahs room and need for improvement.

It does has the unenviable job of encouraging players to group up, but I do feel like I could solo load a C2 with large boxes in less than 20 minutes. I do think it would be interesting if it scaled well by the number of boxes and the current workload at that location. If a location is super busy that 5 hour time might make some sense though then I'd argue the spaceport needs to hire more loaders lol

Ok, want us to last hours doing even the simplest thing?..... fine, we dont have any issues with that, unless the servers are SHIT like they have always been and all that time and effort goes down the drain thanks to a 30K or a Sync error leading to the ship`s destruction or whatever else server instability do to you..... what we fear in SC is not pirates or grieffers, we fear the SERVER itself. i havent hauled since they applied 3.23 because those issues got me to bankrupcy like 6 times as Hauling requires a heavy financial investment.... and 7 out of 10 times i lost my ship and cargo to server issues. Im now salvaging because ... yes, server instability is the same, you may loose your cargo, but your financial status is intact because you produce your own RMC, you dont buy it from some derelict outpost out there.... if your ship suddenly explodes in space in the middle of nowhere or landing in the hangar, you will not LOOSE your heavy investment, you will only loose your extra profit, but your finances will be intact.... i welcome the new system, but it makes even more worthless the hauling loop if servers are not upgraded...... CIG should understand that We already have hard , annoying, discouraging and highly frustrating jobs IN REAL LIFE!..... we dont want to go to a fantasy alternate reality to suffer doing our jobs like we already do.... we want to go to a place where special things happen, where things that are impossible for us in reality are possible and we HAVE FUN doing it!..... becoming millionaires was FUN!..... we worked hard and we became millionaires and had a great ingame life!!.... HURRAH!!..... i wanted to go into the game and play because something amazing was happening to me!.... I love the game too much to just quit for things like this, and i will keep on investing heavily on it, buying ships, controllers, improving my computer, etc..... but they should understand people like me (im sure im talking frome the perspective of maaaaany people).

I think the main difference between Tarkov/DayZ and Star Citizen is that while I understand that all 3 can be time consuming and high risk/ high reward (which is what I love).. The main issue is that Star Citizen is so damn unstable that you could easily spend 30 mins gearing up and crash to desktop the instant u leave your hangar.. 50/50 whether u lose everything you had on you or your ship and need to reclaim your ship as well.. I have 4000 hours in Tarkov and ppl complain about the stash management, and the 2-3 min loading into a raid timer which is like microscopic compared to the time it takes to get set up in Star Citizen. If the game was stable and there werent server errors or crashes sometimes every hour or two, then I don't think this would be an issue.. Ive crashed literally less than 10 times in 4K hrs of Tarkov, and I just reconnect into the raid in 1 minute.. I typically crash once per day on Star Citizen, sometimes more.

I rarely crash and have played many multi-hour sessions without issue. We've had some folks in our org have crash happy clients like yours and after some triage we found that helping them clear their cache and user folder seemed to resolve that. Beyond that I can only assume it is SC not playing well with your current hardware/software in some way (most common being memory issues).

I don't think it was very fleshed out, and I could be completely wrong about it. As of now, only the selfland 2.0 and aeroview 2.0 have been done in game at this point. I hope they revisit it for the revel and vfg hangar type. I could imagine the revel being only large and xl hangars at MT or Crusader. Grim Hex with an updated vfg hangar would be rad.
Edit: So I just checked on my hangar stuff, and each ship standalone or in a package has the hangar attached to it. The hangar shows as a hangar pass, which I would take to mean you would be able to rent free as I suspected if the location has that hangar type. For example, I have several selfland and one aeroview for my standalones. So I would think I could rent several selfland at multiple locations that have selfland as their hangar type, and one pass for aeroview if they have that. I would hope that if you only have selfland, and the location has another type, you could upgrade your pass for an in game fee to get the better hangar.

SC is nothing like we have played now and in the past. Moving around will not be easy, making planetary gameplay more important. Filling up a Hull D or E will be a game in itself. Speed and efficiency will be key. Specially in the Cargo sections of the space stations... those containers will be physicalized.

I think this change just incentivizes you playing more conservatively, and not taking unnecessary risks solo and playing with a group more, as well as incentivizing mechanics like bed-logging. The less you need to change your gear, or your ship, the less time you sink into the setup/prep of an activity. Moreover, if you utilize a medical vehicle, say like a Cutlass Red, you can store extra gear if you do die and have a respawn bed to reduce the time setup. They're making things be more risky, and I like that as a gameplay mechanic. Its immersive, and thats a large reason why we play this game I feel. The main issue imo, is server stability. You can die frequently due to things not rendering on your client and thus you wrecking (this was reduced with master modes as having shields up will protect from SOME collision damage but not all), you can die from AI inconsistencies going from braindead to commando, or just straight up being hidden in the walls or floors, and then the plethora of players that like to KOS other players just to make them mad in global chat. Its too frequent that death and survival are too far from the players control, and as such increased time sinks can hurt a lot more. Hopefully this will be alleviated with 4.0 and static server meshing but we really dont know until we can test it more

We must be able to save and load loadouts - like we do in other games. The game is already far too slow and often tedious. We need all basic repetitive processes dramatically streamlined to reduce the drudgery of things like inventory management and basic logistics etc.
You have to wonder at times if the devs even play SC. The game should aim to be an enjoyable, fun and an exciting experience - and not a constant grind.
Most gamers just don't have 4 or 5 hours at a stretch to play - and given how long it takes to do even the most basic things in SC - it's difficult to enjoy the experience especially once the novelty factor wears off.

@ChristoffRevan I'm a modder and have been making content for games since 1987 - I'm fully aware of the difference. Basic things like personal inventory management and related systems should not require 10 years of overhauls and rethinks. By now relatively basic issues like this should be thoroughly fleshed out, and refined. It's not like data and entity streaming is a new technology. Perhaps if CIG listened to their player base more closely they'd realize that many design decisions have far-reaching consequences. Personal inventory systems hit at the very core of playability - and can literally, break a game.

It all depends on how you will play the game, the best option will be for casual gamers, who spend relaxing, or taxing moments in either Stanton or Pyro, playing for the enjoyment of experiencing an unique game and immersion. Its possibly the best choice as there is no pressure, no time constraints and everything done at your pace. The main issue is with the OCD/ADHD nut jobs, they turn a simple game into a lifestyle, need to loot everything, complete every quest and mission, worry about everything and anything, stress over rebalancing missed features/ships and content inevitable pushbacks. If you've played star Citizen for a few yrs, the best approach is a casual one, most seasoned backers don't really play that much, and that's the best approach, change is the spice to this game, rebalancing is key.

I wouldn't have minded it as much if you just went up to one of those kiosks and it opened the same inventory we have now. But that's not what we're getting. I'm anticipating waiting for it to load, waiting for the drawers to load, probably re-assigning the items to the drawers if the server is uncooperative (which it probably will be). Then more time waiting for the second inventory screen to open up and finally the usual delays when I equip those items onto my character. And if I forget a single medpen, I get to do that all over again! In return what do we get? The FEELING of immersion that I absolutely didn't need? Did CIG take this opportunity to give us loadout slots, make it easy to sort and select items, or even a way to auto-designate stuff that I would always want to bring along with me? Nope, none of that. All I'm getting is CIG being so busy thinking about what the addition would do rather than the WHY of it.

I reinstalled this game over the weekend after not having played it for a couple of years.
I was kind of surprised by the fact that it was such a nigh-unplayable shitshow. Absolutely enormous frame drops, my Constellation constantly exploding or disappearing in the hangar before I'd even get to it, leading to an endless loop of "Claims" having to be made, the floor of the hangar essentially disappearing and sending me into the abyss underneath the planet... etc. And when I finally _did_ manage to do a couple of FPS missions, the enemy combat AI was so unpredictably wonky that it was basically impossible to make any headway. Not to mention the constant "Crimestat" rating being on and currently so bugged that I couldn't get it removed.
When I decided to just do Bounty Hunts in my Connie, the game wouldn't let me spawn it in. I uninstalled. I'll probably never install this game again unless it's actually legitimately functional as a real, honest-to-God video game. I'll just watch videos about it instead. I wish half of the content I see about this game was something I could experience in it personally. Oh well. Guess it's going the same direction as Elite as a (somehow STILL) buggy, overengineered shitshow.

The inventory kiosks, as proposed, are a slap in the face, and totally disrespectful of players time (nothing new...)
I say this because currently users can multitask waits on trains/elevators/etc. with inventory management.
This completely removes that ability to multi-task / fill "down time" with busy work.
The middle ground, that would make total sense and actually respect players time would be:
    1. allow users to "manage" their inventory from anywhere (similar to what we do now) BUT...
    2. players can not bring items into the world...Instead, changes are reflected in the inventory model which acts like a shopping cart.
    3. players can "order" items from anywhere, but they are delivered to defined areas (i.e Inventory locker in hanger or existing kiosks)
In this way, nothing changes from an physicalizing standpoint. I still don't have a "bag of holding". I can't just manifest items on my person etc. BUT....I can manage my inventory remotely.
This, to me, is the biggest "Duh......" It baffles me how CIG constant seem to not think things through, but just plow forward with half baked ideas, when they could save considerable amounts of TIME AND MONEY by thinking through the experience, and consider ways to improve it before shoving it out the door.

The item banks are just horrible. lets say you go to buy some food and drinks. now you have to go to an item bank to finaly eat or drink it. its ok to have limited access to your inventory also its a good thing to remove a lot of invisible inventorys from locations like jumptown or all other small landing spots on planets. i think this will even increase server performance since it doesnt have to keep track of all these locations anymore. just give the terminals the same functionality of the imaginary inventory. let me equip stuff from the terminal instead of choosing what i want to look at and then open the limited imaginary inventory. its the third time they reworked the inventory system and it gets worse every time so in the end you always go back to the imaginary inventory screen (same for looting) If you get a chance to test the next patch please try to put dead npcs on the freight elevator and see if it stores the items. I'm all for the full experience of cargo hauling as long as it is appropriately industrial in scale (and this applies to all industrial game-play). When I see CIG videos on this topic (or on the new distribution centres), they always seem to be running around with tractor beams, carrying 1 or 2 SCU boxes in to their medium or large ship, or occasionally you see the 5x 1 SCU trolley, or rarely that less-than-useful Mule: this is not industrial, this is not immersive game-play (at least for me).
For sure, you've got a small cargo hauler and you're just starting out, or you're out in the boonies - it's all manual and that's appropriate. But your large haulers should be being loaded with varying sizes of containers, using industrial-scale vehicles or cranes or tractor beams, not with 1 SCU bucket brigades.
I really hope I've missed a video on this topic because every time I see people with tractor beams, 1 SCU boxes, and large ships, or the distribution hubs I question CIG's understanding of industrial... .

Yeah. It’s crazy hours I look at the time when I’m finally ready to do a mission and I’m like bruh. Buthere’s some ways to avoid it each time like buying supplies for prep in bulk and transferring your imprint to a space station.

I'd love to be able to completely stock my ships with everything. I lost interest in that after watching ships fall through hangars and need to be reclaimed. This is why we see so many in sperm suits and empty ships.

First comment, WHEN ARE CIG GONNA REMOVE ALL THIS HUD & UI CRAP FROM THE FLIGHT SCREEN?
Nice clean gaming is what MOST PLAYERS WANT.

I really only do mercenary missions and I make my money by collecting armor, helmets and guns and selling them so This all sounds really crappy. I guess I can always try and sell my account if it doesn’t change.

Devil’s advocate: We didn’t make purchases. We pledged $$ to the project in return to for some goodies always subject to change. We agreed to this on the pledge screen. CIG will pull the rug out sooner or later. Such is marketing.
