That's NORMAL "Cadillac rust", right there... Pine needles and crud would collect in those seams and rot 'em, especially in Southeast Texas.
I grew up in Texas. Even in the Eighties, we'd get Sixties Caddies in that looked exactly like this '68... Rust in all the same places. Especially the just behind each front wheel.
They weren't "falling apart". Back then, we'd clean them up and repair what was really bad, then drive the wheels off of them.
These days, when even a snot green, six cylinder 70 Nova sedan is considered a "classic" and sells for Ten Grand, a '68 Coupe DeVille in this shape for $4,000 is a NO BRAINER.
People have gotten stoopud with thinking that an old car HAS TO BE spotless before it's enjoyed... Probably because of watching too much TV.
Also... Even if this particular car ain't worth Gas Monkey's time, it's still a really decent parts car for someone restoring a '68 CDV or convertible... The interior itself would be worth about $2500.
Yeah... This Cadillac is a little bit crusty. But it ain't unrepairable... Especially considering that here it is forty some years later... It's held up well, considering.

Well any time a scrap yard gets an old car pre 1980 they put it aside and try to sell it rather then scraping it and eventually if they can't sell it well its down to the crusher is what I was told by a friend...

Kinda sad they don't even pull chrome moldings and interior out for resale. There's $4k in parts and where they're located alot of folks would drive to pull parts themselves. It's big dollar people like this that are causing the amateur refinisher big dollars to restore what they have. That full interior is worth $1500 if it's as clean as they say.

He could have sold the whole car to a hobbyist and that guy would have probably loved to have this project. Instead, he sent it to the crusher. It's disgusting.

@@valkillmore847 the only thing it’s wort at best is the engine. A northern rust bucket piece of shit is not worth the time when you can buy a decent southern car. Their not all that rare.

That's why I hate GM vehicles. Knocking on wood of course, never had bad issues with classic Ford or Mopar. Always liked GM body styles but you can't fix what Detroit got wrong.

I had a white 68 Cadillac Deville and it ran like a scalded dog lmao...It flipped me out with how strong it was from factory with 472 huge block engine lol, with only a 650cfm quadrojet carburator.. I don't know what Cadillac done to it but it ran 11.07 through a quarter mile lol...1BADCAD was the registered license plate but I only had the car for maybe a month and money talked so away it went...I could be going 25 or30 mph and stomp that gas pedal and it'd roast the tires lol...I had to put hard slicks on it to get it to launch outa the hole cause it'd just set and boil the rubber off unless I'd let air pressure down to 20 or 25lbs, but it was hard to handle with low tires on top end...I's amazed at how strong it ran. 2 door hardtop, and it set up an ol holler for quite a few years and I gave 150 bucks, rebuilt the starter for 3 or 4 bucks for brushes and cleaned up the solenoid, I ran the dog crap out of it, and I made it lookn good all 4 corners and I sold it for 1200 and that was like having 12,000 in the mid 80s lol...

These are not professionals. Hack work at best. Restoration is disassembly of the entire car and servicing of all parts. All they do is bandaid cars and pass the issues to the next flipper.

Aaron is the mechanic, he suggested to dump it. Richard is the business man, and if you are able to convince him to dump it, then there’s was 2 masters of their craft who decided to cut their loss. No disrespect but who are you?..
