This game is the purest definition of "soul" in video games, and this song is evidence of that. That is why I still play this game to this very day, when so many other Total War titles have come and been tossed by the wayside. Medieval II is a timeless classic of the Total War series, and it is a shame we will never, ever get a proper successor to its majestic greatness.
I hope for a good remaster though, I would buy it. MedII is the best game in the whole genre. I loved the building system too, with a basic tree and detailed descriptions, logical modifiers... The new building and UI in Warhammer, Rome II, Attila, etc sucks so much But never lose hope. The 2000s were the golden age of strategy gaming in many regards (Halo II (not strategy but-), Med II, Rome I, EU3 (the first properly designed grand strategy, that led to eu4. I don't like eu4 nowadays as it's bloated with dlcs, but eu3 was the first fun game of its type imo) and other smaller titles that I really enjoyed like Patrician III and Imperivm Civitas, many more I forget). Some day a new studio of inspired people will rise
The first time I listened to this, I had flasbacks of all the nobles and soldiers that did memorable things in the game, like that one unit of feudal knights holding off the enemy at the gates of Caen when a treacherous spy opened the gates, gaining time for infantry to converge on the gate, gaining time with their lives as payment. I remember the prince and his reinforcing army fighting to save the besieged king in London. The prince died but he had saved an entire kingdom. I remember My and France' crusading army fighting 4 stacks of enemies near Jerusalem. And countless smaller but no less significant things. A really perfect song for ending the game with. This song hit me real hard when I finished the game. Such a valuable lesson to be learned from a game.
+emirhan ekşioğlu I remember my General falling in front of Jerusalems gate, his battle speech is unforgetable : Today you should not die because that wouldnt be helpfull for your career, these shaby Mongols are going to feel the taste of the might of the Reich and the Kaiser ! And when i fall i have a smile on my face because i have fought with honorable Deutsche ! And then he charged in a battle of 900 vs. 8000 . . . And the shaby mongols attacked Jerusalem after they killed him and Killed the Kaiser in a glorioud 2000 vs 11000 Battle R.I.P Henrik the Crusader , after Jerusalem has fallen the Pope called a GIANT Crusade to recap it and almost every Chrisitian Faction joined the fight within the Reich with Kaiser Markus who died on his way to Jerusalem. thats my most epic experience in Medieval 2 Total War
one is when i was playing with the scotts in the Brittania Dlc and Norwegians sieged Edinburgh, i only had Highlanders, Nobles, Highland Pikes and Highland Archers, only 40 Knights and the General Backwards, the Norwegians has only one armored Sergeants, the rest overwhelmed by the double my forces, with a lot of Housecarls and Vikings, they builded a siege tower and a ram, so my pikes were defending the gate and my archers fired arrows like devils, my cavalry exit by one side on their flank with a good distance for charge, while the Norwegian heathens were climbing the Siege Tower and breaking trough the gate, my pikes holded up their sergeants, then the cavalry crushed their flanks while the Nobles and highlanders fought like true Scotts and captured their general, the attack of the cavalry on their side, pikes with highlanders holding at the gates, noblemans defending the walls and arrows falling from the sky made the vikings run away, result, i had 350 warriors, lost 167, but my enemy had 650 at start they'd lost 424 and freed the general, a heir of the crown, that were captured
Think of people fighting with spears swords and arrows made of bronze, then iron, then steel, and later gunpowder is invented, the first primitive firearms, grenades, and rocket artillery. The First World War comes, and artillery that’s much more powerful, the first machine gun, the Maxim gun, and rifles that are far more accurate, powerful, and can hold much more ammunition than before. Now we stand on the brink, with nuclear armed states effectively in a proxy war against another, with a large arsenal of its own.
Very nice song, yet very ironic ! When you play Total War games, you are reminded very quickly that people don't fight only for love, but can also fight also out of fear, greed, or even boredom :)
During the crusades priests would preach that the enemies were demons that must be destroyed and that it was the will of god. The meaning of the song is the we are all one, humans who fight to protect our families and yet we see each other as evil demons.
@@carlossalazar5731 I'd say the crusades were more brutal. But it doesn't really matter. It was al people against people for no good reasons other than power land and money.
This song, captures the raw and refined emotion that those soldiers back through time to the soldiers of today. They go war not for themselves but their loved ones. All other things put aside, they willingly sacrificed themselves for others, is that not the greatest act of love? But, we must come together so this act of love is not needed anymore, otherwise the war will never end.
Hits different when you have played the game, fought many battles, watched thousands die, sacked and purged cities, killed prisoners, seen your battered soldiers drenched in dirt and blood, all to this music. And then at the end you finally hear the lyrics. And suddenly all those little pixle people, those numbers, statistics, and polygons become "real" people. Stuff like this really happened. And you cant help but think...
Very beautiful and inspirational, I can see a knight leaving his village with great zeal to take up arms for Christ, however once he is in the holy land after seeing many battles he laments all the bloodshed with his foes who probably felt the compelled with zeal as he was back in his village, only desiring to return home and live in peace...
Very beautiful music, very important message even more in ours days. Congratulations. It remind me the music " Le deserteur" from the French Boris Vian and the American Howard Berg.
We are all one, means that with all our differences, we are the same. Doesnt matter if you are white or black, if you are christian or Islamic, we are all people, we are all the same. That's what diversity means. Seeing that with all our differences we are members of the same species, therefore, we are one.
She doesn't say diversity is good. She says that we are literally all the same. We're not different, we're equals, the problem is that we don't agree so we walk different paths but we are all one.
Yup, if, this one time I had 1 unit of feudal knights (mounted) and they killed probably 50 enemies each cuz the enemies army was just militia and artillery and I could micro manage them loads. I worry about how the 10 remaining men will bury the 1000+dead enemies.
I think everyone is misunderstanding what the song was about. It wasn't about what people thought back then, but how war is basically pointless and how all people are the same because they have families and their own god.
"I believe we all share the same consciousness. We literally all are the consciousness, and everything is. I believe we all are connected. @jessica moore It wasnt called the dark ages... That was the period of transition of Ancient times to Medieval times, and it was called dark ages because the Roman Empire fell.
A superbly beautiful composition that deserves to be included in any compilation of songs of peace and love! Bravo. I would love to add this to my own collection of such songs. Is is at all possible to acquire a copy of this jewel?

@1999521 Well, it's possible but given that medieval factions generally claimed divine support for nearly every conflict, including successional ones (which ties neatly into the concept of rule by Divine Right), it hardly needs to be the Crusades. Another easy example would be the attempted Spanish invasion of England after they split from the Catholic Church. The song fits war in general rather than specific most easily.
I may have slain many soldiers never taking prisonners but in the end i brought peace and prosperity in all countries, no more hunger, misery and wars under my one flag !
I think they were just trying to tell people they're not advocates for violence just because they made a game that's basically all about massacring your enemies. "All wars are civil wars because all men are brothers"
Then by all means.. Down on your knees and bow before your grace.
The composers and their team deserve a special place in Heaven for this song.
Agreed, this is such a message thru and for the ages! We are all one.. humanity awakens!!
This song is speaking to the Faithful Servant, Isaiah 53.
I wonder how many troops have been slain in Medieval II history.
That'd be alot of slaughter and broken families...

Haha so true.
Or because of annoying Ai that attacks their allies haha

Great. I remember the insturmental version that comes with the game.
I know it also goes by "Destiny" but when I downloaded this from the Jeff van Dyck website it was called "we are all one".
