    Sweet car and sweet build! Love the color combo! I love cars of the 50's, I wish there was a 1/25 scale kit for a 1957 Oldsmobile Rocket 88.

    Beautiful car ! I have never heard of a "curbside" model kits until now. I have been building models since I was 14 years old and I'll be 46 years old next month. I would definitely buy this kit, but I think it would be a great kit for a beginner. I love all of the American cars of the 50's. Ford, Chevy, Chrysler, Pontiac, and Cadillac. I love them all ! Keep up the good work Chris ! Looking forward to seeing more !

    Beautiful job on a very stylish car. In 1961 I had just moved to another "new" neighborhood (we moved every few weeks). This time I'd be there for FOUR YEARS (thru the end of high school). Good news - across the street was not only a "kid" my age, but his dad had a 1959 Imperial (salmon / white) - SPACE SHIP in real life. We started high school together and that fall his dad got a NEW 1962 Chrysler. First his dad had "invented" the portable spar tree (it cost thousands of loggers their jobs) and was given the Imperial. Then he invented the first fully automated fish machine that displaced thousands more and got him the new '62 Chrysler. What a time -
    Thank you for sharing...
    P.S. I warned you I had a lot of car stories - I've owned / operated over 50, my dad owned over 100 (all personal cars, most would drive, a couple "new ones" every month, some times).

    Dang it! I hate curbside, but Iove your build, Chris! Once again, I feel compelled to purchase one of your reviewed model kits. With a kit this simple, it is simple to devote a single weekend to rediscover the fun I had when building model cars 50-60 years ago. Yes, I guess that makes me old. Your choice of colors runs very close to my own. That might not be a good reflection on your color selection talents because I am blue/green colorblind. Very attractive car model! Very nice review. Thanks for another fun review!

    I have the Model King reissue of this kit from years ago and it's great to see it back with EXCELLENT box art! I'd like another one, but I'd backdate mine to a '58 which I think looked a little better with the front end. I have a very beat up '58 promo which fortunately has good bumpers and interior and I'd like to tweak AMT's '57 300C chassis which was very similar to the Imperial's except in length.
    An engine would be an issue though as there's not been a correct '59 Mopar engine kitted AFAIK.
    VERY NICE review and your model turned out GREAT for a quick build!

    Great job, I didn't realize the Landau roof had chrome trim, my mom's 77 Monte Carlo had a Landau roof and the trim between color and "leather" was like a textured plastic. I imagine in 59, the elegance of the vehicle mattered more...great job.

    It turned out fantastic; I must admit, before seeing final assembly, I was really wondering about the look of the roof.
    Only one little thing I'd have preferred different is the interior floor carpet. White carpet even in an Imperial just seems a bit odd.
    I have this kit, unopened. Did not realize it is curbside. Hope I can get it somewhat close to how yours looks. Great color choice!

    The body color is very similar to Aqua Mist which is an authentic 1959 Chrysler paint color. The white forward painted roof was standard with Aqua Mist but there was an optional Silvercrest stainless steel insert that covered that area. Just painting it silver rather than leaving it white would really make this model pop. Also, a black instrument panel and black carpeting on the floor and lower door cards was how they were originally built with white leather seats.

    Great looking. You make model building look so easy. I have a couple dozen unbuilt kits that I have accumulated but never had the guts to try and build out. Watching your video and others makes me want to start. The only detail I can see missing on this Imperial is the rear view mirror on the dash. Wonder if it was forgotten when they made the kit?

      Promo style kits usually don't have easily lost or broken parts. They were made to be handed to customers at dealers to sell the car's features.

    Hey Chris Did You See AMT just Reissued a 78 Dodge Long Box Pickup but instead of As 4 X 4 as it was in 70s w Dirt bike. It's a 2 WD version w .in bike in the. Kit. I'm so Jacked been wasnting the Non Step-side 79s Dodge a while the Lil Red Express had been Reissued numerous times but sweptsides Weren't. Awesome to See them back
    I intend to Build one ASAP. As a Short Box Fleet Side "True Spirit" 76/77 Dodge pickup. Most True Spirits were Step side but a few Sweptsides were made Factory produced "True Spirit" Production was less than 200 units they were a Los Angeles region Special model test Market Truck released Simultaneously as it's more Popular San Francisco only test Twin the "76/77 Warlock". Warlocks sold so we'll Dodge threw them into Nationwide distribution for 2 more years while "True Spirit" version was killed off n Ended
    Love they brought it back. I also now will find it far Easier to Modify one of these into 81-93 next Style Body Pickup that no 1/24 or 1/25 th kit was ever Made of too
    I should buy a Case of these to build !!

    This curbside kit reminds me of AMT's 1:32 scale kits.No suspension,no engine except for the molded on engine detail,and the seats molded into the interior tub.If and when AMT re-releases the International 9800 Eagle COE from their ERTL series in 1:32 scale,you should do a build review on it.

      Make sure you're using the same brand paints with all that you're painting. Some paints don't play nice with others and that could be part of the problem with compatibility. It wouldn't hurt to test it out on a junk body as well to ward off any surprises on any project you're working on.

    I tried Rustoleum years ago as an undercoat and if I recall it crased the plastic. Am I mistaken about this or do they make a paint compatible with styrene?

    • @hpiguy
      @hpiguy  5 лет назад

      Old school Rustoleum may not be plastic safe. I use their newer 2X brand and it says plastic safe. But I also use a primer on everything, rarely do I shoot top coats on bare plastic.

      I've been using Wal-Mart's generic spray, it's called Color Place for undercaots. Their flats go on super smooth and the semi-gloss black is perfect for interiors, vinyl roofs, and hoses.

    Have you seen them to new Mobius kits on pre-order. They are the mid 1960's Ford pickup and Ford pickup utility bed. If so are you going get them and do builds. Please do.

      The answer to both questions is YES and I placed them on pre-order last week. Stay tuned!

    What do you do if you mess up the chrome trim with sharpie?

    • @hpiguy
      @hpiguy  5 лет назад

      Alcohol will remove it IF you act fast. Anything over a minute and you have to touch it up with paint.

    A beautiful kit. The only thing showing its age are the screws and that it's simple. That's it. Molds seems to have been well taken care of or have barely even been used. I like this kit actually. I'd normally frown on a kit that old, mostly cuz molds get damaged over time and because they're too simple. But well, this one is an exception I guess. Just wondering tho, is it my eyes, or was there a small gap between the trunk and the spare tire cover?
