He wrote about how different people would do certain things in the beginning like not get up or be lazy that would show that they were gonan die while others found meaning in the suffering. Watch it. When one feels trapped in a situation they have no control over, life can really suck. Something like being in locked in a prison cell with no way to escape can be compared nowadays to being stuck living with parents & family you hate, without the means to escape from them.
    Being stuck in a situation myself, it calms me a little to watch this video. Maybe I can make the most of my life, even surrounded by these noisy, annoying, smelly and inconsiderate people I have to live with. I envy people who live by themselves.

    • @kubasniak
      @kubasniak 7 лет назад +4

      There is an option to leave. Envy will not change your situation, it will poison you for sure. I hope things are good for you.

    • @Gweidemann
      @Gweidemann 5 лет назад +10

      DullFace101 • "...I envy people who live by themselves." I'm a product of alcoholic home atmospheres, which was a reoccurring nightmare for years in my upbringing. I've miraculously enough been saved and sober, for 38 years in a row without a singular relapse in this entire time period. My former police record was cleared beyond the national averages of the entire country in 1996. I've been living on my own for decades and it is GREAT!! I hope you can do this as well.

    • @Mauitaoist
      @Mauitaoist 4 года назад +3

      Maybe admire would be a better word than Envy

    • @mariancounsellor
      @mariancounsellor 4 года назад +9

      You can’t compare the two things. A prisoner has no option to leave but a person living with family can leave at any time for a short time or for good. I’m sure you don’t get locked in your bedroom like a prisoner gets locked in their cells. If you read the book, that is the point, it’s about what meanings we attach to situations rather than seeing things in a way that is negative or destructive. You’re not ‘stuck’, you just believe you are.

    “While the ultimate meaning of life is unknowable”- Some people find this answer in God. Christianity- Westminster catechism- The chief end of man is to glorify God, and to enjoy Him forever. That would speak to ultimate meaning. More specifically it might be to love God and love your neighbor, and to use your gifts to benefit others. And to praise/be thankful to God and enjoy what he has done and who he is. Ultimate meaning could be boiled down to fellowship with Him as well by obeying his commands and striving as the ultimate goal to be good or loving like him and as a result becoming more like Him.

    The Will to Meaning

  • @stevecoley8365
    @stevecoley8365 6 лет назад +5

    We are placed on this physical plane for a breif moment to collect light and warmth. So we can turn the small spark of light and warmth we are born with into a massive bundle of light and warmth called a star, floating in heaven (joy and beauty). "Love knows every star by name."
    This is accomplished by appreciating (loving) this paradise planet lifeboat and the miraculous works of fine art called "life" that inhabit it.
    If we extinguish our light and warmth with ignorance (greed), we become the darkness and emptiness that surrounds the stars after we drop the clothing of the physical plane.

    Do yourself a favor and read Rollo May's response "Man's Search for Himself". Frankl's flaw is that he saw survival as success and death as failure. But the victims of the nazis who died had not "failed". Instead, failure from an existential point of view is to convince themselves of meaning that is not real.
