  • I'm driving up a forest service road in Idaho when I notice the smoke all along the road and down in the valley I'm headed to in part 25 of the 2 month camping road trip. I was starting to get concerned and noticed some guys on ATV's along the road. I stopped and after talking with them learned the fire was in the valley I was going. After a few more hours of driving, I found a stream I hadn't planned and it was amazing...I ended up spending 2 days on it! I'll also give you a first look at my camper build after driving several hours on a rugged forest service road. I built this camper to take some off road abuse. It's the perfect combination of rugged and functional, exactly what you need in an adventure vehicle! I built it to be off road approved (see the build link below).
I'm living in my truck bed camper for 2 months and road tripping through New Mexico, Colorado, Idaho and Wyoming. See the entire series on my channel or other parts below....

If you don't already do so, try airing down your tires. It gives your suspension a break, provides better traction, allows tires to deflect on objects and most of all a much better ride on those rough roads. Thanks for sharing your experiences.

Hey Drew...did you have any tire issues? I lost another tire to a stone cut in July. It was a rental SUV. No cell service and had to nurse it out on a donut. Where we were was less populated than where you were. No matter, I still love North Central Idaho.

RV'ing and vehicle "van-life" camping has been becoming more and more popular for a long while now. And since the plandemic, it's gone crazy. Also, the western half of the US has been the more popular destination. Some RV campgrounds are all booked up out to two years. That's likely why you're seeing so many RVs and campers out in wilderness areas where you normally wouldn't expect to see them in such large numbers.
