To be honest, despite never having read the books, I never questioned why the drawing worked. That felt totally plausible within the context of a ghost story. Compare it to the kinds of solutions there are to supernatural creatures in folk stories: A sleep demon can't get you if you get into bed backwards If a spirit sneaks in through your keyhole, covering the keyhole will make it unable to find its way out (not because it can't get past the cover, because it literally can't find the keyhole) Vampires can't enter a home unless invited. In that context, 'ghost children believe drawings because drawings are important parts of how kids communicate' feels totally at home
right! and especially because thats established early on that thats the easiest way for abby to communicate it makes sense that thats how shed communicate to the kids! edit: also, what reason would another child have to lie to them? i think it being abby who was able to communicate to them is arguably more important then their chosen method of doing so.
Yeah I agree. Drawings are just another form of communication that involves images instead of words so Abby telling kids that their killer is William though a pic- wait... getting into bed backward? How?
The fact people cheered when Mat showed up at the exact same energy as the other spidermen showing up in no way home just shows the impact this man has had.
It makes sense why the kid wasn't freaking out in the back seat. He knew who was kidnapping him. Considering most kidnappings are done by somebody that the child knows it peices together nicely.
@@arandompersoncon If he were to actually see his face. If he saw him, then yes. But as he was looking at the details though his dream to see who it was he obviously didnt see him.
I like to believe that the FNAF movie has its own lore, just like the books. Because William Afton’s daughter is Vanessa instead of Elizabeth, and instead of Evan it’s Garrett.
I wish the production team luck in their attempts to understand mangle's anatomy. They will most certainly need it. Edit: Holy shinx. This is the most likes I think I've ever recieved. Thank you!
I think a mixture of puppeteering and special effects wouldn't be too bad. With how technology is progressing, Jim Henson's Creature Shop might be one of the few to pull off the realism of the animatronic.
Exactly what I was thinking. Instinctively clicking on game theory to find this video and then realizing it was on the film theory channel was an amazing feeling
Yeah, I've been rewatching some of the older videos, and it's *crazy* how early in the playlist they start joking about the movie eventually coming out.
My biggest wish for FNAF 2 is that Markiplier is the one who gets bitten. He'll come full circle from saying, "Was that the bite of 87?" To being in the bite of 87. It's just too perfect
dude, your wish is amazing! I really do hope they deliver this one, Markiplier would be so happy to do it, and I do think Scott is generous and kind enough to invite him. Man, if your wish becomes reality, as a Markiplier and fnaf fan I feel like this would make me so happy! It would also kind of settle how the fnaf management really cares about the community and is more than so willing to give us fanservice due to knowing how passionate we are about it, at least imo
@@Radioman23 he definitely would do it, he was going to be the guy who dies at the start of the first movie but he was already busy filming his own movie. It's really a shame he couldn't make it but I can't be in 2 places either. He's likely gonna be in the 2nd one tho!
The biggest issue is that Mike didn’t know anything about the restaurant before he was given the job. If his dad helped make the place, he’d probably know.
When he was younger, possibly. But it is easy to forget that type of stuff, especially with how Mike's father was after Garrett went missing. Mike was completely believing that his trauma from the event from suppressing who took Garrett, which is possible to be the case. Who's to say he didn't experience a traumatic event involving Freddy's at some point and those memories were surpessed as well?
But what if they started at a different location like in Game 2, this being in the movie located in Nebraska, where Garrett was abducted, and somewhere along the line, Mike and his family move to Minnesota. But that's just a theory :)
I love how this film and the whole vibe in the community feels like a return to form after all these years. Don’t get me wrong, I love FNAF both modern and old, but seeing those old characters in these iconic sets, hearing Foxy humming again…. it’s time travel
It's like seeing a grey Mike Schmidt and a phone guy with a rotary phone head named Scott. I won't put down modern FNaF for not being like it, but by Lucifer, I'll never stop loving it.
Seeing matpat show up in the movie and then the living tombstone in the credits with the most iconic fnaf fan song made me realize Scott Cawthon is definitively the best creative there can be. He made something iconic and great and treats the fans so so well.
I mean, He did work for RUclips (for awhile, not entirely), he's given THE POPE a copy of UNDERTALE, we found out that he's an amazing Streamy awards host this year, He's literally changed Broadway musical history by bridging the gap between production and online community involvement, and of course he's probably one of the biggest contributors to fnaf's success! He is youtube's Dadpat here to teach us cool things and have fun in the process. This is a better science class than any college could ever give me
I think you're 100% on Garrett being the puppet. I noticed, by listening to the soundtrack on that specific part of the credits, that the vocalizing kids in the background are making the same "airplane flying" noises that Garrett was before he was taken. If you listen to it, you'll here it randomly in the song. I love Scott's puzzles.
The problem for me is that if they do have Mike's father as one of the founders of Freddy's alongside Afton, it would be hard to explain away Mike's lack of knowledge of the pizzeria prior to the first movie.
Yeah, they might try to explain it with something like Amnesia or illusion disk, or henry being cautious like afton in the game/book lore and prevent his children from getting anywhere close to the pizzeria thus explaining their lack of knowledge of fredbear pizzeria, or he simply done with animatronic business and bail out before having family/before mike old enough to know thus prompting afton to resent him and explain mike 0 knowledge about fredbear dinner.
@@unknownuser260to be fair, Mike was already pretty young when William took his brother. Whatever happened between William and his dad had to have taken place a little while before that so he easily could've just been too young to remember ever going to Freddy's
the fact movie afton is way smarter then his game counter part is a really great spin on the movie, makes his final "I always come back" line seems more understanding, sum were mad cuz it felt rushed but, if you know you’re dying but have a chance of coming back you'll be rushing too
True! If you thinking about it he will know that he will come back like how other missing children he killed come back as their favourite animatronics!
yeah but i still feel like its a bit off, like he hasnt come back yet so its weird to say "i always come back", like sure if he knew he was gonna come back maybe he should've said "ill be back" or something like that but saying "i always come back" when he hasn't come back a single time yet just doesn't make sense
that was something that slightly bugged me in the theater, the deliverey of the line didn't quite have the same power and confidence as the line in the game. In the game, it's delivered with such power and authority, it's not a hope or promise, it's FACT, William Afton ALWAYS comes back. The delivery in the movie, however, actually serves to humanize Afton, there's fear in his voice, he's in pain, he knows he's running out of time. It's not the confidence of the game version, because while Afton clearly knows more about ghosts and possession than his game counterpart, he wasn't exactly eager to test it for himself. It genuinely is a hope, hoping he comes back just like the ones he killed.
The next Movie will probably have him Cameoing in a different Role - where a friend uses the Nickname 'Sans' to refer to him, completing the "Sans = Ness" Reference Scott Cawthon intentionally set up for MatPat...
@@IsraelRangi but can u imagine if HE was in a training video for new employees and says "thanks for watching" xDD ik itd arguably less exciting than "thats just a theory," but i still think itd be cool :3
Remember back in the old FNaF 2 days, when MatPat theorized that Phone Guy was the purple guy all along. Now cut to 2023. "Steve Raglan" is obviously supposed to be the stand in for Phone Guy (I'll catch you on the flipside) and who does he turn out to be? William Afton.
Dear Matpat, I just wanted to let you know, that when I went to see the FNAF movie, the second you walked on screen the whole theater started scream-cheering, calmed down to hear you talk, and started up again when you said your famous line. there was no other time in the entire film that the theater cheered so loud. all-in-all, thank you for all that you've done with the FNAF series and how much you were able to bring people into this amazing (yet slightly terrifying) world. Thank you! P.S. I am now 100% going to get the fuzzy withered Freddy jacket
I actually love the idea that the family we've been calling the Emilys are actually the Schmidts, if we wanna carry that over to the game timeline. It turns Mike's choice of fake name in FNAF 1 from something random into a giant middle finger to his dad, which, narratively, I'm a huge fan of.
i really love this idea too and looking back it would have made so much sense even without much evidence presented. on a side note i found a YT channel that posts creepy videos and hidden messages. POSTcontent is the name of this youtuber it would be cool to see matpat do a theory on this
I watched FNAF with my best friend. We passed the time waiting for our session to open talking about our relationship with FNAF and how it walked with us throughout our friendship. And, of course, when Matpat showed up in the screen, we fangirled together, holding our hands and silent screaming for a couple of minutes. It was a great night
Now that the movie has fully changed the lore, it will only be a matter of time before MatPat finally connects the dots to how he himself also got involved with the lore.
Now that it is confirmed that they are going to actively try to get Markiplier to cameo in sequel, I have a feeling that it's gonna outperform the first one. Other movie studios should take note, make movies that the FANS of the franchise will like, not the critics.
@@dinonugsvr1928 It's not even that, it's that the fans are the ones who are going to hype the movie up to their friends and families. They're the ones who are going to go gaga over the trailers and share them across social media. The movie had a big advertising campaign, of course, but the fans did so much of the advertising *for free* because they truly believed in the end product and wanted to share the joy of this weird thing they've all adored for years with the rest of the world.
@@DanielLovesArtand this comment radiates the energy of someone who likes to criticize other people's opinions without making it constructive. What's the point of your personal attack, did you feel alluded by the comment perhaps? On a side note, if we measure a film's success by the amount of happiness, engagement, etc it brings to viewers, and if viewers are as clueless as you purport the previous commenter to be, then it stands to reason the average viewer won't value what expert critics believe to be important for a movie and, in return, this validates the opinion of the original commenter. For a movie to succeed, it must be tailored for the viewers and fans, not the critics, even if that makes it artistically inferior, it will be superior with regards to its entertainment value, the reason most movies exist in the first place, this particular one included.
The movie brings up something that could completely change the way we think Fnaf works. They said this place has been closed down for years but still needs a night guard and in the movie Micheal has a modern cell phone (usually in movies set in the past they use old phones). So what this could mean for the games is Micheal dosent go to the restaurants until way later in the story like present day or even the future
The thing that breaks my heart for Mike is that we get to see it happen. When he says "I only looked away for a second" we see it, and it LITERALLY WAS just a second. A single second. Edit: And it’s not even like he was distracted. He looked down to stand up from the picnic table! Who could blame him for that?
@@verdantmistral442Yeah I don’t see how Mike could’ve helped at all in that situation even if he did see it happen. Maybe identify William but that’s about it
hard disagree, the movie really should have been a slow burn, i couldn't understand why they wanted to shove so much from all the games into one movie that wasnt even 2 hours long. It really didn't make for a good story imo
I'm so glad Mat thought of a reason why Garrett's fate was never brought up. It was strange how the ghost kids knew about him, even though he was killed in a completely separate incident. That, and the fact that Garrett was kidnapped during a vacation in another state, and his kidnapper happened to live in the same town as the Schmidts. This coincidence really bothered me. But if William targeted Garrett because of a family dispute, then it wasn't a coincidence. But this theory raises a question: if Mike's dad really is supposed to be Henry, then why did Mike know so little about Freddy's? You'd think he would've met the animatronics that his father built. And he never even heard about the Missing Children's Incident. I hope the second movie offers an explanation for that.
Exactly! His dad would have no reason to keep it secret, Freddy's used to be a fun family destination back then and Vanessa said that it was quite a hit in their town so it made no sense to me that Mike was so clueless
@@Ingaming_Coma246it's possible, but then I'd think Mike would know what his dad was ignoring him for, or at least know a semi-popular and recognizable restaurant in his town
Despite all lore stuff, it's so impressive that a movie with a budget of one episode of "she hulk" looks so good and so enthusiastically received by the audience
There are a lot going on at MCU with CGI being the most expensive to produce, bigger studio, possible reshooting (a lot) and marketing. I honestly think movies/tv show like she hulk was not given enough time resulted in half-baked product for the sake of content and profit.
One of the things that caught my attention was that when Mike was bargaining in the dreamworld with the children, his father remained completely quiet. Everybody else spoke, even Garrett. But his father could have been replaced by a plant and wouldn't have changed the scene at all
I still think that when William recognized Mikes last name that he just realized that it was Garrets last name, especially being his first victim and all.
My current theory about the FNAF movie (ignoring the blatant inconsistencies between movie and games) is that the movies are a prequel to the games. Mike Schmit was an actual person and everything happened as in the movie did, ad it all happened BEFORE the first FNAF game. That's why the kitchen camera works in the movie but doesn't in the games. It broke and the animatronics are keeping it broken since that's where Afton is. The temp company is still hiring people for the job because it continues to be open, as Afton is unable to stop anything. Michael Afton is still himself and takes the fake name of "Mike Schmit" because it was easier to get a job there as a previous employee. The real Mike Schmit tries to get Vanessa psychological help and that ties into VR. He decided to stay out of the Afton drama because he wants to help his sister and also the spirits move on, which means they can too, and he learns to value the present rather than linger on the past the way he does in the movie. Does it make sense? Only vaguely. But hey I like it.
"Show a Markiplier cameo and a clip of Mangle and I'm in". I couldn't agree more! I loved the first movie and am excitedly waiting for the sequel (or maybe prequel)!
@vladimirtiffany so you're telling me Vanessa is from fnaf 1 or 3? You're telling me that abby almost getting put into the suit isn't reminiscent of sister location?
@@LordOfElysium Even Matt went over this in the beginning, I guess you weren’t paying attention. Aspects of a lot of games were added to this This contained the events of FNAF 1, contained set up for FNAF 2, showed the FNAF 3 backstory and set up FNAF 3, contained remnant experiments from Sister Location and the books, and contained Vanessa from Security Breach. More than just the first.
My theater was so lame for MatPats cameo, I was literally the only one clapping. I understand Cory getting a standing ovation, but Matthew deserved one too 😔✊
I actually drew one of the FNaF kid’s drawings from the games and brought it to the theater with me to make my friends laugh. The fact drawings were so important to the movie was pure gold
I remember when I saw the cameo of you in the fnaf movie. the theater I was in just started cheering. Really shows how popular you have become in the fnaf fandom.
My sister (who has never even HEARD of this series before a month ago) watched it with me and she INSTANTLY started MatPat's theory series from the beginning to catch up and nerd out with me. I lost it when he showed up and that's what really sparked it, so thanks MatPat for getting my little sister into FNaF! 🎉😅
the family swap makes even more sense if you think about it in a studio standpoint: having the protagonist to be the one who killed his own brother in a kinda brutal way probably wouldn't resonate well with general audiences, hence the need to twist the story a bit
In the games it was clearly shown to be the childish antics of a mean older brother messing with his little brother turning into an unexpected mistake that affected him the rest of his life. They could easily turn that into a redemption story for Mike over the course of multiple movies as he begins to forgive himself and attempt to right his and his fathers wrongs.
Personally I think it's just Scott once again retelling the same story in a different way. The studio would have know that the FNaF movie would never have substantial general appeal, and toning down the story to try and get a wider audience would simply alienate the fans. Leaving a movie with little general appeal and little fan appeal.
@@CaroLine-ij9zh Why wouldn't it be able to garner general appeal? It's an interesting story when done well. All it would require is for Scott to buckle down and make things more consistent for the flow if the trilogy.
I sincerely hope the next films give us more of Matthew Lillard as Afton... he was BEYOND incredible-- charming, nefarious, terrifying. He was perfect, and I'm dying to see the story they give him for the films. Also, Matthew Lillard is a TREASURE. He deserves the world.
@sexyschnidden9702 I believe you are correct--I believe he himself said that in a pre-strike interview! I'm just hoping he gets more screen time via back story or some more character development. He deserves it (because he's a phenomenal actor) but also I'd love to see William Afton more fleshed out (no pun intended! Lol)
@@sexyschnidden9702I believe it was 3 years he signed and not technically 3 movies but I imagine it won't take long for them to make the second movie, because they probably had most of it planned before this one came out, hence partially why the movie took so long to plan before they started filming (I even thought it was cancelled at one point) they filmed the movie from February to April this year according to the internet so likely they arent going to take too long to start the next one. Heck maybe they'll go Lord of The Rings and make FNAF 2-4 in the span of a year. Jk
We need a scene with Markiplier being filled in on all of the shenanigans happening at Fazbears, and then him going through security footage to see the bite that started it all and dropping his iconic line.
@@ScaredPump you must be 12 years old. If you thought this movie was good. This was definitely not a good adaptation in Markiplier dodged a bullet not being in it. It would’ve tarnished his reputation.
My opinion is that Scott recognised how convoluted and messy the lore in the video game series was (after all he probably didn’t plan to expand it so much initially) so the movie series is a way to start again and have a more streamlined storyline (while still borrowing elements from the games).
I think something people forget is FNAF lore was very much so still solidifying while this movie was in production, and it went through several directors and scripts to get where it was today. I’m just happy it even happened, it’s a dream come true 🥰
People may be angry that the fnaf movie would be influencing the lore like when the books did, but I'm definitely on board with including it, I saw lots of lore potential in there
I think they'd be angry that Matthew's suggesting it, not the actual influencing. If they were doing the latter, that means they're angry at Scott and Co. and want to tell them how to write their fiction. Now that I think about it, that's about 85% of all fandoms these days. If and when my fiction is published, nobody is telling me how and what to write, unless it's a good and legitimate criticism.
I think it might imply things that might be canon in the games but we should be careful about drawing anything too one-on-one. I think Vanessa's fear of her father and being his reluctant follower could possibly be parallels to Michael Afton working under William up until Sister Location ("I found her, she was right where you said she would be") BUT I don't think it necessarily means that game!Vanessa is William's daughter or an Afton in general (even tho AR and SB has some weird hints to that).
I actually burst out laughing when I saw the dream theory book in the movie and had to explain what was so funny to my parents. It was a great movie in my opinion
I love how a extra little detail is that music man gets more text then just his name he also gets a sentence that reads "you hear that sound? Its the sweet sound of your eternal silence" but the other shirts just get the title the reason its a extra detail is because matpat designed them and he gave his favorite music man a extra comment showing how much he loves music man
I do like how well the Five Nights at Freddy's movie went. Although I'm a little disappointed they didn't include the phone guy talking to him during every shift. But overall, it isn't terrible.
@@pancake.r1346 yeah i noticed the connection when i saw it in the theater, so phone guy = purple guy atleast in the movie canon, don’t know if Scott intended it to be that way in the games tho, but maybe
2 things: First, can we appreciate how cool his promotion for the skirts tops and sweaters was? Second, MatPat being a FnAF cameo is a great way to end
It's been stated by the producer that the human animatronic was just something leftover from Jim Henson's creature shop that they had before they even started working on the FNAF movie. This is a huge relief to me as the whole "animatronics that look like people" thing is the turn I wish the series never made
Matpat and Game Theory were one of those Old RUclipsrs that made mine and many others childhoods. And I'm happy Matpat and GT survived the "Dark Ages" of RUclipsrs where Old RUclipsrs were just embroiled in controversies.
The fact it seemed they were mix-and-matching the Aftons and Emilys/Schmidts stuck out to me as well. Garrett was different: the car, kidnapping, not being in the pizzaria. Immediately screamed Charlotte to me, despite Mike being an Afton in the game.
While watching the movie I noticed 3 scenes that were oddly similar to scenes in the silver eyes. First was in the intro, the last child that was taken was wearing a blue shirt and stood there with "the yellow rabbit" to his left, before being taken away. This lines up to the flashback that John has, when he tried to recall how Michael (The blue shirted child) was taken. The second was when Abby was being chased by foxy, she went and hid behind the pinball and arcade machines where foxy almost got to her, but she jumped in the ball pit, and Mike tazed Foxy right before he got her. Where in the book, charlie went and hid behind some arcade machines while foxy came and destroyed the machines while trying to move them to get to her, but John drop kicked Foxy out of the way. The last scene came shortly after in both the book and the movie (10 pages, and about 10 minutes later) when after the spring lock scene, Afton gets dragged off (Foxy dragging him with his hook in a hole I his suit in the movie, and Freddy dragging him by the arm in the book) into a dark hallway while (Mike in the movie and John in the book) "carries" (Vanessa in the movie and Charlie in the book) out of the pizzeria.
My only main complaint with the movie was that I wish there was more explanation/ reaction to the reveal that Afton was the career counselor, even just a comment from Vanessa at some point like "he's working under a fake name as a career counselor now" or something. I mean, Mike didn't even react to it in the final scene (although to be fair he was on the ground for most of it). Other than that I loved the movie, especially the way they did the spring lock scene, absolutely brutal
It would actually make a lot of sense for William to know Mike. He REALLY wanted him to take that security job even after telling him how bad it was. Almost like he wants to tie up loose ends
It sucks Mark couldn't make it into the movie cause of schedule conflicts, which are understandable. Hopefully he can get a cameo in the next movie! :)
I love that Mat is saying that Garret is probably the Puppet, because I actually theorised the exact same thing about a day after watching the movie (which was... I think the day after it came out?) Because it's just obvious. It's the most likely way forward given the state we left things off on, and it's the most interesting option we currently have for continuing Mike's story.
@@Hxppx That's kinda just how missing kids look in the mini-games tho. They've all got tears since they all died. The puppet is just the only animatronic that has it built in.

Waaaay better than I ever thought this movie could have been. A nice combo of a bunch of lore elements while still keeping some arcs the same and leaving the story in a great spot to continue. Also the Balloon Boy jump scares got me both times😭😭
It is definitely a movie for fans. I went with someone without any knowledge of the lore but knew the basic premise of games and they were entertained but confused who its for. They were saying that there wasn't really enough gore or scares to make it only for adults, but it was definitely not appropriate for under 13 crowd. I laughed and said it was for fans and that there were millions of them.
@@carolbaker2773I don’t mind it not having gore, because there would be younger fans in the audience and it wouldn’t be cool to show them all of that. And also, I feel like the people who want it have gore or be more scary and grime dark are the people who are fans of the Fnaf VHS and believe that the movie should’ve been like those fan made projects where it’s more gritty. And I disagree with that heavily.
It was just the same thing over and over again with the dream thing. It was more of an Easter egg fest than an actual movie. It really wasn't that good. The only people who like it are children who are blindly loving it because they don't know anything about movies.
@@carolbaker2773If it was for the fans, why did they dumb it down? And if this is for the fans, why is every other movie adaptation of stuff complete and total garbage? And millions of them? You're not very bright.
It actually makes sense that Afton learned about Abby from the animatronics - when he took Garret the Schmidts only had two sons, so he would've probably not known about her at the time.
At the premiere, after the movie, I waited outside with one of my friends and simply explained to them the “Henry is Mike’s dad” theory like the insane person I am. So glad MatPat (and ofc other people) talked about it and pointed out the same details I’ve also noticed. Also shoutout to Ness for being the best character in the whole movie!!
Vanessa at the end of the movie was left in a coma. I wonder if maybe she could be the equivalent to crying child in the fourth game. Being the daughter of the psycho William Afton, he probably kept tabs on her the same way. She really liked to reminiscence about her time at Freddy's as a kid. Similarly to how crying child watched the characters on TV and spent a lot of time at the restaurant and had plushies. We see an IV, pills, and flowers like you would in a hospital setting in the game. Maybe the trauma of her father being a serial killer bunny stuffing dead children in the animatronics would cause her to see the animatronics as nightmares in her coma. No one else has mentioned this theory yet. Everyone only talks about Garret becoming the puppet. Which in all fairness, I definitely agree with that part too.
I totally get that, but I heard somewhere (it WAS on the internet, so it could be wrong) that they were only going to make three movies after the first three games, so the nightmares wouldn’t show up.
@childmanmanboi4916 to be fair, they brought in Vanessa as a character all together and she shows up in security breach and the AR game..not 1 for 1 same Vanessa as the games but then again, none of the characters are exactly the same. Regardless, just like in the games, shes somewhat of a reluctant follower to William Afton. Shes a security guard (cop in movie) who is influenced by afton to some degree. In the game its the virus. In the movie, hes her father. By the end, she comes to the good side. There's some parallels there to an extent. They also refer to the books with some details such as the ella doll. And those books definitely came after the first 3 games. So idk. I feel like it's still plausible. It definitely makes things interesting since the fourth game is still quite debated even to this day.
@childmanmanboi4916 of course I don't think they'll make a whole movie about it. But a little nod to it in some way. The best way I think is with my theory above that makes somewhat sense
I was waiting for someone to cover this. I INSTANTLY KNEW that the pictures would have something to add to game lore or in this case something that had a HUGE significance in the movie lore.
After the movie came out I immediately started to tell everyone about how Garret has to be the puppet because the puppet gave life to the animatronics and Garret is the first child to get Aftoned and when I saw MatPat say it I screamed. No one really believed the theory held water even though it seems obvious. I'm so happy other people saw it and not just me.
I think Garret was the golden freddy we see who brings the little girl to the restuarant in the movie, we know it's not freddy himself as he's kind of messed up and falling apart.
Even though I know that mat is done (which is sad because he was basically my childhood) I kinda want to know how many takes it took him to do that seen
He mentioned in a video that it took him a few. The crew originally wanted him to deliver it more dramatically in his usual style, but it just didn't work and so they had him tone it down.
Im so happy to have my exact EXACT thoughts said in this video. Like how the dad looks similar to the guy building the endo in the training video, how the roles are reversed in the movie, etc. I love this 😭
After rewatching the movie with my sister she said something that I kind of blew off at first but started thinking about. She said what if the blonde boy, the one possessing the Golden Freddy suit was William Afton's son. It kind of makes sense since in the games the Crying Child is half of who possesses Golden Freddy. Since the games kind of switched the kids between the Afton and "Emily" families that would change the roles they take in the movie. Garret takes the place of the Puppet who is supposed to be Henry's only child Charlotte, and we see that Abby is supposed to take the place of Elizabeth (later Baby), and then there's Mike who is still Mike. The Crying Child doesn't have anyone in the movie to take his place since Vanessa is still alive that means someone else within the two families could have taken the place. Things fit in nicely if it is revealed that Afton also had a son that died tragically from the Golden Freddy animatronic. And since the movie shows that the ghost kids' memories are altered, even if they now know the Yellow Rabbit is the one who killed them that doesn't mean they remember details about their life. I mean the scene itself shows their screams, they died knowing it was Afton but they still forgot because of whatever mind controlling drawing they had. It could also leave a deeper meaning as to why Afton was reaching his hand out to the blonde boy at the end, not because he was being stared down by one of the kids that led him to his demise but because he's seeing his son that died tragically. Even more than that though, what if the reason movie Afton has a vendetta against the Schmidt family is because the one who built the Golden Freddy was Henry. Perhaps William blamed Henry for the death of his son and that's where his hatred and motivation began, why he goes around killing kids specifically in Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, and why he kidnapped and killed Garret. Eventually his hatred outgrows his care for his kids and that's why he doesn't think twice about stabbing Vanessa because it isn't about the death of his son anymore. It is purely about ruining the life of Henry Schmidt, and now Mike Schmidt's life. As for the blonde boy himself, I don't know. We all probably thought it was just the vengeful spirit Cassidy staring him down for his wrong deeds. But who says it can't be both, Afton's son could feasibly still feel anger toward William if he was the one that lead to his getting chomped. William might blame Henry because he is pretty darn psychotic, and the blonde boy could blame William for his death over some accident. There are things I haven't really fleshed out and many holes within this theory because I'm in a bit of a rush to finish an assignment but I'd love to hear thoughts people have regarding my theory. Who knows, maybe even MatPat could see this and make a video some day if it has any kind of validity.
Yes, like the idea, only thing with me, and also my kind of issue with Mats theory is the assumption of Henry's existence. While urs, Henry has played a major role in both the games and the books, I doubt that the movie really hints at or even needs Henry's place in the story. I would also argue that with how much they've chamge context wise about the story, that we can only really work with CLEAR evidence. I know we haven't had to before, but it's especially when talking about small pieces like Henry, where we start to turn those small pieces into bigger pieces, all anchoring on the logic that the piece of Henry is correct, all to find out its all wrong. Love the confidence and the connecting of dots, however I think though the movie and game share similar names, we must differentiate them as separate stories, and only connect dots that has CLEAR connections. Like I mean stated in the movie word for word almost connections. Like Afton, like Mike Smidt, and like dead kids in suits.

Honestly, im shocked how much me and my friend found out and was right on it
Excited to see what comes of the next movie, feels like what Scott would've written if he knew FNaF was going to grow as it did. As a storywriter, obviously not on the same level, you learn and pick up on a lot of different things after writing, things you'd change and such. If I was thrown into such a situation, I know I'd want to go back and tweak a few things, and maybe this is a good opportunity. Anyway- building on the Garrett/Puppet theory, I'm quite sure (quite, not entirely) that the name "Garrett", in American and Norse, means "Defender". Possibly relating to the Puppet's role as a protector?
I feel like Vanessa having the toy plane in the picture was a sign that she had it all first, knew it all the entire time. And was an active accomplice.
Yes! My thought was that she did the kid thing of "I have a cool toy, come play with me" and that's how he was lured away. Even if she didn't know what she was doing.
I know some people are not happy with your constant coverage of the games but I can give you credit for covering as much of the secrets and details of the franchise.
To be honest, despite never having read the books, I never questioned why the drawing worked. That felt totally plausible within the context of a ghost story. Compare it to the kinds of solutions there are to supernatural creatures in folk stories:
A sleep demon can't get you if you get into bed backwards
If a spirit sneaks in through your keyhole, covering the keyhole will make it unable to find its way out (not because it can't get past the cover, because it literally can't find the keyhole)
Vampires can't enter a home unless invited.
In that context, 'ghost children believe drawings because drawings are important parts of how kids communicate' feels totally at home
Art is just a wordless form of communication so why not? Unless they were going into his dreams too?
There doesn't even have to be a supernatural explanation- I mean, they forgot and the drawing reminded them.
Being a guy who loves psychology, I loved that they used drawings. It’s simple children psychology and it all just fits so perfectly
right! and especially because thats established early on that thats the easiest way for abby to communicate it makes sense that thats how shed communicate to the kids!
edit: also, what reason would another child have to lie to them? i think it being abby who was able to communicate to them is arguably more important then their chosen method of doing so.
Yeah I agree. Drawings are just another form of communication that involves images instead of words so Abby telling kids that their killer is William though a pic-
wait... getting into bed backward? How?

The biggest issue is that Mike didn’t know anything about the restaurant before he was given the job. If his dad helped make the place, he’d probably know.
When he was younger, possibly. But it is easy to forget that type of stuff, especially with how Mike's father was after Garrett went missing. Mike was completely believing that his trauma from the event from suppressing who took Garrett, which is possible to be the case. Who's to say he didn't experience a traumatic event involving Freddy's at some point and those memories were surpessed as well?
Maybe "Henry" left the company, before or soon after his kids were born?

The problem for me is that if they do have Mike's father as one of the founders of Freddy's alongside Afton, it would be hard to explain away Mike's lack of knowledge of the pizzeria prior to the first movie.
oh sugar !
Yeah, they might try to explain it with something like Amnesia or illusion disk, or henry being cautious like afton in the game/book lore and prevent his children from getting anywhere close to the pizzeria thus explaining their lack of knowledge of fredbear pizzeria, or he simply done with animatronic business and bail out before having family/before mike old enough to know thus prompting afton to resent him and explain mike 0 knowledge about fredbear dinner.

that was something that slightly bugged me in the theater, the deliverey of the line didn't quite have the same power and confidence as the line in the game.
I love how MatPat accepts he is now canon to the lore and decides to fully analyze every nook and cranny to what part of the timeline he is in.

He decided to stay out of the Afton drama because he wants to help his sister and also the spirits move on, which means they can too, and he learns to value the present rather than linger on the past the way he does in the movie. the family swap makes even more sense if you think about it in a studio standpoint: having the protagonist to be the one who killed his own brother in a kinda brutal way probably wouldn't resonate well with general audiences, hence the need to twist the story a bit

But the thing is it's not it has a seperate lore but maybe has like hints as to what Scott wants to do with the franchise
Yeah but it just complicates FNAF for any newcomers. Lore was already complex enough when you had to pay attention to easter eggs and scott's website.

The fact it seemed they were mix-and-matching the Aftons and Emilys/Schmidts stuck out to me as well. Garrett was different: the car, kidnapping, not being in the pizzaria. Immediately screamed Charlotte to me, despite Mike being an Afton in the game.
That's exactly what I thought. I'm wondering if in the 3rd movie we'll find out Garrett never existed and Mike is a robot with fake memories 😂
Mike was the kid in the car! I doubt it, but would be a very surprising twist
Right
E
Since when was I proved Mike was an afton in the game?
"Father, its me Michael"?
Perhaps Michael is Henry's son??? It's never been proved
May I also say that the irony of the guy that played Shaggy from Scooby-Doo being the “bad guy in the suit” at the end, incredible!

It actually makes sense that Afton learned about Abby from the animatronics - when he took Garret the Schmidts only had two sons, so he would've probably not known about her at the time.

2 fnaf inspired theories back to back? What a day!
My personal headcanon is that Scott made the FNaF movie JUST so Mat could talk about it on a THIRD channel
The timeline shift makes the "pay's not great" line even more accurate.

@ thx
Seeing a fnaf theory on the *film* theorists instead of game ones feels so surreal and I'm here for it
Im so happy to have my exact EXACT thoughts said in this video. Like how the dad looks similar to the guy building the endo in the training video, how the roles are reversed in the movie, etc. I love this 😭
I didn’t make that connection BUT I was wondering if the guy building the endo was supposed to be Henry
3:58 all of the stuff is so good
I always interpreted micheals line about his father saying he “couldn’t take it” to mean he took his own life. Which is also the way that Henry died
