  • Join railway enthusiast and E & N documentarian Mike Bonkowski for this tour of some of the rail structures that remain on Vancouver Island. Engineers and construction crews overcame canyons, ravines, river valleys, creeks, rivers, gullies and cliffs to build the line. Mike's beautiful photographs document these obstacles and the engineered solutions that are still visible today. Includes Q & A session.

I’m thinking it was Canadian Pacific which received the E&N Land Grant. I wasn’t there but it was supposed to compensate the Company for the overspend on going through the mountains and to keep a confederation promise for a railway to bring Vancouver Island (a separate colony from BC) into Canada
    That’s what I was taught.

It should be preserve for tourism. Bring back the steam trains just like what they did in Skagway Ak you can have short runs to start and rebuild the tracks over time. This could be a world class infrastructure for the Tourist industry on the Vancouver Island.

I can understand the enthusiasm. I love trains also. This track was built back in the days of horse and buggy. It has no use for us now. It is too steep , too crooked, Too many road crossings etc... Put a trail on the old railbed and stop with this ridiculousness of running a tourist train costing billions. When our population reaches into the millions, we use this corridor for an above grade safe high speed transit. Stop lining the pockets of these ICF crooks and stop supporting these area directors and polititions with their legacy BS rail.
