Choc Mundine actually had a decent idea for Australia day years ago. He said leave it on January 26th and treat it similar to Anzac day. Up until lunch time have ceremonies in regards to mourning and have all shops closed until lunchtime. From lunchtime onwards we celebrate the coming together of the first nations people and the introduction of migrants. We don't celebrate Anzac day because of the slaughter - we celebrate the sacrifice and lessons learned since.
Don't forget having Australia day on the 26th is also remembering the poor convicts who were sent here for committing small crimes. Some were children. Treated terribly.

As a First Fleet descendant I was sitting on the fence with this debate. I thought I could see both sides of the story. I now see that those against changing the date are using the reasoning "just get over it" which to me is totally wrong. So after watching a few of these videos I realised it's actually no big deal to me if we change the date of Australia day. So if it's a big deal to some then yes, lets change the date. So easy to solve this issue.

The Western side was New Holland, and was a Dutch colony. I can't remember if the English bought New Holland, or if the Dutch simply abandoned it, or when.
