  • Note: this is an AI experiment. Unlike the other painstakingly organic rarities on this channel.
Concept: Can I leave enough garbled A.I. mess on the floor to present a convincing, early period Philip Glass collection of pieces [derived my favourite period before he got caught in that minor third 3:2 rhythm ratio piano aesthetic that I'm not as crazy about personally]? I'm aiming for the 1974 'Music in 12 Parts' style with a little 'Einstein', very much focused around the early PGEnsemble period. Man, try explaining THAT to AI, not an easy task. After a few weeks of tinkering, I'm pretty pleased with the results though. And full kudos to Glass, obviously, without whom I would not have had the reference pieces from which to generate this collection.

Fascinating stuff but as the technology develops I can see major musicological/legal headaches on the horizon.

Now there's a sentence I never thought I'd hear! :) Not your thing, I understand. Just an experiment on my part to see what this A.I. was all about. I thought I'd create three albums that I'd never have the time or resources to do independently [Zappa / Glass / Fusion]. My summation is that this A.I. tech is impressive but it lacks that actual writing music part. I'd conclude that whilst A.I. can 'produce' sounds that reflect the result of the creative process, it is more of a curation process than a creative one. I found it thrilling for a week but ultimately lacking in creative control, engagement and verisimilitude. I've subsequently returned to writing music in a traditional way. So in a way, yes. Screw it.
