There is another great shop in Osaka. It is accessed via an elevator. At a certain floor there is a martial art shop (with recent katanas for training, cutting etc) and more on top there is a shop with antiquities, exeptionnal pieces (and the shop keeper was very gentle, even though I was a stranger that couldn't buy anything, he was very passionated and enthousiastic about showing all these historical weapons). I don't remember exactly where was this little tower, I'd say south of the zoo

All those swords looked like modern reproductions. Real sword shops would heavily advertise swords that have been appraised by the NBTHK and have a certificate with them. These are still cool tho

Unless things have changed in Japan , the only Katana you can purchase without all the ridiculous red tape is iaito or non-sharp training katana that can not be sharpened.

Not sure the price tags on these, but "real" Japanese katanas made in the traditional method will cost around $10k minimum, and can go over $100k for good examples

just visited a Katana shop in Osaka. the cheapest swords there are 200k yen which is about $2000+ and I've seen things 10-50 times that price.
