3shape is trying to kill smaller labs. There are plenty of exocad scanners out there that outperform the 3shape scanners, and that you don't have to pay thousands of dollars per year to keep "licensed" after you pay for the hardware. 3shape is also notorious for selling scanners to labs, then immediately targeting that lab's doctors to try and get them to buy their own equipment packages with the idea that they can eliminate the use of a dental lab completely. I was all fine and good not openly opposing 3shape until they started paying off companies like Zimmer biomet to close their products to exocad users. But frankly I'm just fed up with 3shape's dirty sales and business practices. Hooray for you if you are a huge lab that can afford to throw money away on their stuff. But if you are a small lab that doesn't have cash to burn by the pound, then stay away from these guys.

Hi Scott, Im from 3Shape and am sorry you feel this way. I can ensure you that we believe in helping labs stay competitive and not in “eliminating” them which is why we invest hundreds of engineers and thousands of development hours focused solely on innovating new lab solutions and profitable lab service options. And we have recently focused a lot on creating solutions and packages for smaller labs. Last year we released the E scanner series that has the latest scanning technologies, together with 3Shape’s CAD/CAM software but in a completely subscription-free package. It sounds like you are not aware of this. If you send me an email at Communications@3shape.com, I can get a product specialist to call you and explain more about our special business models for the smaller labs. We believe that labs of all sizes should enjoy the benefits of digital dentistry.
      Hope this helps,
      Regards Bruce/3Shape
