i just got me native instruments´ studio drummer and i must say, for that price the thing sounds really great. it´s not as versatile and big as other drum sequencers but it´s still very much useable. so i made this metal test with it to show that great sound doesn´t have to pop a hole in your wallet. all guitar recordings are first takes so please excuse the sloppiness.

Hey Kyu,
access the instrument editor by clicking the wrench symbol on the top left corner of the instrument window. Select "Edit all groups" in the Group editor, then go to the Send Effects section down below. There you can disable or delete the Convolution Reverb.
i play a schecter c-7 blackjack atx. this was still recorded with the pod x3 live with impulse responses. for further information i suggest you take a look at my ED playlist. i put a lot of tutorials there with my production setup.

i mix studio drummer in all three mixers (studio drummer, kontakt, studio one). i don´t use cubase anymore, btw. i do it a bit stupidly at the moment. since the kontakt mixer has a limited number of stereo outputs i´d suggest you use them for overheads and room since they are stereo recordings. and stuff that is mono (kick, snare) can go to mono outputs.
Random shot in the dark, but do you still have access to this preset you made? Just got kontakt complete and I’m surprised how good studio drummer is.

that is a complicated one. basically you want the raw unprocessed guitar signal to go through the pod to your computer with the TS vst, back to the pod with amp simulation and back to computer again through lecab. no idea how that could work. an easy solution would be when you have TS on a separate computer or laptop and connect that into the FX send/return loop of the pod. but it´s not the best solution.

Pretty sick. Do you use it in a daw and just pull up like a piano roll type type of thing to program everything or what? I just got this and im trying to figure that out.
you may need to raise the buffer size in the ASIO control.
Was it difficult to coax that sound out of it, or was it not terribly different from using other good drum libraries? I almost bought this a little ways back, but wasn't completely sold on it. Sounds pretty decent in this track.
Sorry if the question has already been asked but how do I use the preset in Studio Drummer once downloaded? I have tried to drag it in my kontak and it says files are missing. I don't see any presets folder though...

it´s actually the same as with superior drummer. insert it as new instrument track and the channel that appears can be used as midi track. or insert a midi track with it and connect that to studio drummer. to import midi tracks from one program to another you must first export it from the one and than import it to the other. usually you´ll find those functions in "File" or something in the toolbar.

sure. or it should. NI machine is a midi controller and as such you should be able to control any vst instruments.
What's wrong with the snare? I think it sounds pretty dope.
studio drummer is also recorded with real drummers on real drum kits in a real studio. and "quick mix" actually isn´t too far fetched, if you ask me. EZ basically just contains presets, which means you don´t have to do anything. sure you can EQ and compress all you want but in the end it´s icing on a cake. the cake is the same no matter what icing you use.
sorry, don´t mean to knock you down. EZ is still totally fine of course and you can like the heck out of it if you want.
isn't Pod HD pro having TS simulation? So you could use all straight pod and in your DAW use cabinet simulation.
comparing price to features and sound it´s as good as SD to me. studio drummer is like half the price of superior but also only has three complete drum kits in which you can´t choose different individual drum pieces (only two snares with each kit) and the mixer also doesn´t have any routing option and just very basic effects. but it sounds really good. has a rougher feel to it than superior. i love that.

Yeah I do the -6 db thing already I'm talking about like when you put to notes in piano roll when you write your beats, when you out them down they sound like the hits are very soft and in your video it sounds great, im talking that velocity
it´s not exactly like that. hd pro edit is just to control the pod from your computer, nothing else. it does not process sounds. so i don´t think putting TS - hd edit - lecab will work.
you have your opinion, and to say quick mixes, is speaking with out knowing much. All the drums are recorded on real sets with real drummers playing them, and you can creat your own patterns via midi piano roll and a click of a mouse, they have several drum sets to choose from , and a mixer to make them sound the way you want, plus in your DAW you can eq and commpress them the way you want. I am not disappointed with EZdrummer.

Help man! I just got this and when I go into add a drum track in cubase it is constantly clipping, tells me I have ASIO overload??? Unless I turn the volume down to where I can barely here it!

Than only suggestion is to use like mojoJojo378 said. Does Pod HD comes with software and plugins on computer like podfarm, if so you can run those like plugins into DAW after TS?

somewhere around -6db. if it´s too loud just lower the output volume either directly in studio drummer or on the instrument channel.
You made a great metal kit there. Personally I would have shortend the transients for a little less room. Sounds great though.
i do not know if you know the answer to this but can studio drummer work with the ni machine?
this is snare A. snare B on this kit is crazy massive. i only use that one now.
How can you disable the convolution reverb it brings?
Even if it's muted, even if it's bypassed it still eats out up to a quarter of my CPU.

Do you like studio drummer more than superior drummer? Is it easier to work with? I've been contemplating getting it but was just wondering if you believed it was worth it.
well, superior drummer is definitely easier to work with. but i like the sound of studio drummer better. it´s much more natural while superior can sound overprocessed and boring rather quick.
Awesome I'll definitely be giving it a shot! It takes a lot of mixing just to get superior to sound the way I want it to in the first place. Then more mixing to blend it in the track. So I definitely understand the over processing. Thank you! And thanks for replying to my questions all the time!

Hi there, thanks for sharing this! It confirms why I would want to use Native's Studio drummer. I think the sounds are more organic than Toontrack Superior drummer and has a more "no nonsense" approach.

yes, but being pre mixed it is studio ready and they sounf epic, so you dont have to spend time mixing each tom, and symbol and snare, plus i add a few plug -ins to make to make the bass drum and snare sound nice and tight. to each his own really.

check the playlist "ED" on my channel. go some tutorials on there including drum mixing. it´s on SD but you can pretty much do the same things on this one.

yeah man studio one 2.6 is so user friendly, i wish I had mor time to just master all the ins and outs of it. but i love it. thanks for all you guys help. Plus i will use both ez drummer and studio drummer, sorry for all the arguments. hopefully studi drummer will come in the mail this week. Should 1TB harddrive and a i5 quad core processor and 16gb of ram be able to hold all of ez drummer stuff and studio drummer stuff.

The HD Pro already has a great tube screamer built in, it's modeled on the 808.just put it before the amp in the setup. should sound stunning! or if you have an additional interface, you could send a clean through the pod into the vst, then out through the other interface's output back through the second channel on the pod, and into you DAW. long way around, but hey it's all fun!!
how do you record on studio drummer to make a song?
Hey, I really appreciate your work on this preset, I used it myself through midi, but I've got some problems with it since it is not triggering all instruments perfectly. That means the bass drum does not sound as tight as in this video, just a loose hit, especially when I do double bass. Do you know anything about this issue? Do you have other presets to download? Thanks.
did you raise the velocity in the midi editor?
I literally did nothing else but downloaded your set and opened it in cubase, do you mean the velocity control you can find in options where you can change velocity, midi mapping or randomize? Sorry, I am not so into this.

I wasnt asking you, but since you are telling me, i know studio drummer is recorded with real drummers, yes there are presets on ez drummer, but you can make your own drum beats drum rolls etc..., just like "you" do in cubase with the piano roll, or click were you want your beat to go on the midi map "whatever" . its just different tastes in what you like, studio drummer is fine, same with studio drummer, cake is the same, you use different icing. your the expert. you win.

what? a half assed test of a 150 bucks drum vst makes you buy a 500 bucks bundle with tones of synth and other instruments? ok. i think i only used stuff in the studio drummer and kontakt mixer, so yes NI based. but now i combine those with third party plugins and get pretty big results.

this is the stadium kit. in this configuration i just used basic mixing processes with the effects that are in the studio drummer mixer.
your right, and johnny peaked my interest and so did you, so I just bought it today. so the comments got so heated, yeah I just had ed drummer, and now studio drummer, I cant get enough plug ins, i got the waves 6300$ mercury pack and all the polin lepou free stuff, plus guitar rig 5, GTR 3.5, recabinet 3.5, a ton of IR cabinet sims. so yeah your right its all about taste. See the thing is , you can eq ezdrummer, just with a different plugin, but i see wat u mean studio drummer has eq with it.

your not to proud, you have the time to do it, I have a full time job, that takes every bit of energy i have to do it, I only have weekends to work in my studio, which that is filled making time for my kid and wife, so yeah presets are cool, and you can manipulate them how you want, you can also do it your self and mix them how you want, and make any beat you want via midi. i take it you do this mixing and mastering for a living correct!!!
in relation from price to functions and sound i think they are equally good.
I really like the natural drum sounds. But the snare on this kit sounds a bit ringy

Okay so I just updated studio drummer and downloaded that preset. When i drag it over my opened plug in, a window shows up saying that I am missing samples. Is there somewhere I can get those samples or am i doing something wrong? Help would be greatly appreciated :)

Anyone know if you can use Studio Drummer as any other insert effect just like AD or SD on a instrument track, or do you need Kontakt 5 player somehow? The Studio Drummer homepage is somewhat confusing to me.
you need the kontakt 5 player to use studio drummer. the free kontakt 5 player will do just fine. you´ll find it in the requirements at the bottom of the studio drummer page.

it´s better than EZ drummer, because in EZ everything is premixed. in studio drummer you mix yourself.
