  • What's up everyone, this is the painting video I've wanted to do for a while. The center dash bezel, center dash cubby, and the shift bezel. Hope it goes through all the proper steps in enough detail. See you guys in the next video.

    Hot tips that I think can improve this:
    1. Get a plastic box to cover to pieces while they are drying to reduce the chances of debris falling on it.
    2. If the pieces have previously been painted poorly or have lint under the paint, use acetone or paint thinner to remove the paint. Don't use a paint scraper or sandpaper unless you want to remove the texture.
    3. Use a clear coat on top to prevent easy scratches.
    :)

      dont use acetone casue its plastic parts I would bet they are not able to take any of that acidic stuff it would just rub away plastic.

      I agree. My son just flipped a 1995 Honda Accord DX Sedan into a 2005 350z Touring Vert 6spd in clean condition. Insane he got $6k for the Honda. He is just 18 and now has his own place (just a studio with a fridge/cooktop and bathroom, but still pretty cool) just working his butt off. I have been helping build his Z up and this channel is awesome for it. His interior needs a little work and this was great.

  • @alk3myst

    That looks almost 100%, those minor blems are going to happen in a DD anyway. You took 10 years off the car's interior age easily. Well done and I hope your channel can take off. I haven't seen more recent content, but you left a legacy of information.

    old video - just got a 2006 350Z with only 66K but the prev. owner did some poor paint touch up so I'm in the same situation here. I did a similar job a few years back on a 2nd gen. Toyota Tacoma where I painted the gray interior trip parts black. I remember doing a several step process using SEM products. If I remember correctly: 1 - SEM soap 2 - adhesion promoter 3 - SEM interior plastic paint (black) 4- SEM matte clear.

      @@fullthrottleperformance I'm debating the painting process (still look more OEM) vs. doing the stick on real carbon fiber pieces made by EVO-R (much more expensive) My Z is an automatic and is just a cruiser/touring car and I really just want to keep it more original looking.

    The first year 350zs plastic part interiors were color coded the later year 350zs plastics parts were painted by Nissan what caused the paints to chip

    • @fullthrottleperformance
      @fullthrottleperformance  Год назад

      Yes, the Grey 03 production date years were not very prone to chipping. They actually still hold up after all these years. Unfortunately, the cubby doors for the 03 models were the worst. But this video is pretty old now, and I've still never had to repaint anything after this. I do have some scratches on my shift bezel, but that's from when I installed my hydro. User error lol

    I need to touch up my cubby door as well -- Do you have any ideas how I could do this without pulling anything out? Obviously not spraying it, but paint is paint.. Is there a good brush/tool whatever I could put this paint on and then 'dab' the door itself for a decent result? Just think of it as a touch up of the whole door :p
    (I've pulled it all apart many times.. I just don't want to and I have things that will not go back together properly if removed again.. primarily involving the aftermarket headunit.. so I really can't remove it.)
    I appreciate any response(s)!

    • @fullthrottleperformance
      @fullthrottleperformance  6 лет назад +1

      What you could do is, use plastic garbage bags cut them up. Mask off the rest of your dash, trim, windshield, steering wheel, etc. Prep good, and give it a shot at spraying it in the car. It's gonna give the best results. But if you really don't want to spray it, I don't really know of any brush that'll give decent results. Hope that helps, but good luck!

    • @GuessTechSports
      @GuessTechSports 6 лет назад

      Thanks for responding. So you don't think there's a sponge/brush of any type that will hold the paint that someone can dab for decent results?

    • @fullthrottleperformance
      @fullthrottleperformance  6 лет назад

      GuessTechSports There might be something, but that's a method I've never tried before. You could take a paint matched rattle can and take a sponge, and moisten the sponge with acetone or high content isopropyl alcohol, then spray the paint onto a portion of the sponge, then dab the area you want to paint with that part of the sponge. I've done that with cracked leather seats to fill the cracks, like blend the cracks with the leather on the seat to make them not as noticeable. It's something you could try but idk if it'll work out for trim pieces

    • @GuessTechSports
      @GuessTechSports 6 лет назад

      Could you link a proper sponge for this kind of work? Also why acetone/alcohol to moisten? *I obviously know nothing about paint.

    • @fullthrottleperformance
      @fullthrottleperformance  6 лет назад

      GuessTechSports I just use a regular sponge, but not the scratchy side. Just the soft part of a sponge. And because acetone and alcohol act as a paint thinner.

    How much do you charge if i wanted to send you my dash parts for you to paint? Ive tried repainting mine twice. 1st time w/ matte black and the paint didnt take. 2nd time was w/ rhino liner....and well...yeah.lol

    • @fullthrottleperformance
      @fullthrottleperformance  6 лет назад

      It would be pretty difficult to spray after you've tried twice. What's the condition? You can send a message to me on FB - Jusdrift Charlie (no "t" in just), Or on Instagram Justdriftcharlie (make sure the picture is me) there's a few fake profiles that people made of me, which is why I didn't have social media for a while besides Facebook.

    • @mikebonez2one6
      @mikebonez2one6 6 лет назад

      Currently its back to a primered state. I used really fine sandpaper to get all the rhino liner off which in turn also removed all the factory texture on the center dash. Im just wondering if i should just break out my wallet and spend the huge amount of money for a new factory center dash/door pcs or send it to you or try painting it again using the paint/materials you used.

    • @fullthrottleperformance
      @fullthrottleperformance  6 лет назад

      Mike Bonez I can spray it, but it'd cost a decent amount to ship and I'd have to get materials again. If you just take your time and follow what I did in the video and use a paint designed for interior panels like the paint I used in the video it should turn out fine. Just remember to do mist coats. If you don't, then the paint will want to reject because of the type of rubberized paint the factory used. The more light coats you do the better it comes out, if you try to cover it in one or two coats sometimes it doesn't work out great. You just added me on FB?

    • @mikebonez2one6
      @mikebonez2one6 6 лет назад +1

      Thanks!👍 I am going to try your method next wkend. I think that was my first mistake. I used the wrong kind of paint and i think i was too close when applying it. My prep work was identical to yours though. And yes, i just req you on FB. I should of done IG as there's more and better pics of my 350z there.

    • @fullthrottleperformance
      @fullthrottleperformance  6 лет назад

      Mike Bonez Yeah man give it another shot before cashing out on new stuff, the only thing I'd change is I would've let it dry over night before reinstalling. But good luck man, hope it comes out cool! 👌

      Dylan Ippolito Its been over a year since I've done this, paint still looks new. If you sand it, it messes the OEM texture up

    • @dylanippolito9684
      @dylanippolito9684 6 лет назад

      Yeah but maybe if you hit it with a 800 grit just a really smooth sand paper you could smooth some of the rough surfaces off and still keep the orn look. Have you thought about hydro dipping them yourself. Would be a good how to video. I’m thinking about doing that to my interior but yeah it still looks clean and I love your videos.

    • @fullthrottleperformance
      @fullthrottleperformance  6 лет назад +1

      Dylan Ippolito Honestly, I'd love to learn to hydro dip. And I think I'll give it a try soon, but yeah just in my experience a lot of people have tried to paint these prior to me. And done pretty terrible jobs, and with how expensive these pieces are, I'd rather not mess anything up. But hey man, thanks for the support! 👍

  • @UncleNutt
    @UncleNutt 6 лет назад +1

    Are you really not going to sand all those prior to painting? 🤦🏻‍♂️

    • @fullthrottleperformance
      @fullthrottleperformance  6 лет назад

      Casey Jones I wanted to keep the OEM texture, sanding would've removed all the texture. Ive done this process quite a few times now, and as long as the prep is good, then the paint sticks for a long time, my car has had these bezels for about a year now, and it's been in the California heat, and it still looks great. Go ahead and try sanding, you'll probably just disappoint yourself.

    • @UncleNutt
      @UncleNutt 6 лет назад

      Full Throttle I would probably just use a high grit paper that would more just lightly scuff the surface and not really remove any texture. If your paint holds so well a little bump into the shifter wouldn’t have removed paint so badly. But hey what do I know I’ve only done it a few times. I personally wouldn’t be happy with the scratches showing be rather the fresh paint. I side more towards longevity by doing a more tedious process but that’s just me. 🍻

    • @fullthrottleperformance
      @fullthrottleperformance  6 лет назад +1

      Casey Jones So, you've done it a few times. Why are you watching a video on how to do it? Give your sanding method a try bud, the only reason it got damaged is because the material underneath is rubbery while the paint is hard. Plus it wasn't a little bump, it was all the pressure of the radio, and everything else, resting on a very small point.

    • @UncleNutt
      @UncleNutt 6 лет назад

      Full Throttle just tripped across your video while watching 350z videos. Wasn’t trying to learn how to refinish. Just thought I’d comment because I’ve never seen good results from not sanding before and between coats.
