    I remember my Art classes in school, we used a flat sive/mesh and a toothbrush to get a specled spray pattern on paper, that might work aswell with glaze, the spots will probably be a little finer tho... I'll try that :)

    Amazing video as always! Although I have two questions: 1. I saw that you did the specks with underglaze on the entire bottom, won’t that stick to the kiln shelves? 2. The wax resist, do you wipe that of before firing or does it melt away in the kiln?
    Have a lovely day ❤️

    • @PotteryCrafters
      @PotteryCrafters  2 года назад +1

      Thank you Elin 😊 Those are good questions. The underglaze does not stick to the bottom of the kiln shelf because there is not enough frit in it to make it stick. However, if the underglaze is applied too thick it may stick. Yes, the wax resist burns off in the kiln. Happy glazing 😊 I underglazed the bottoms on this video also. Would underglaze show through white glaze? Or other coloured glazes?

    • @PotteryCrafters
      @PotteryCrafters  Год назад +1

      Good question. No, it would not. You can only use a transparent glaze. It can have a little color tint to it, but you must be able to see through the glaze. 😊

  • @coldfire05
    @coldfire05 3 года назад

    Wouldn't this technique work best on greenware? This way it would be solidified with no worry of smearing after a bisque fire leaving it simpler to glaze the peices. This is how i use this method.
    Thanks for your great videos!

    • @PotteryCrafters
      @PotteryCrafters  3 года назад

      Thank you. 😊 If you do it on greenware you have to be more careful handling it because it's in a more fragile state and you can't have any other greenware touch it in the kiln. So if you are careful in handling it and have extra room when bisque firing then yes you can also do it on greenware. Both ways work great. When I have extra room in the kiln I prefer to underglaze on greenware 👍😊

  • @lazcris

    Hi! Could I make this using another color of glaze instead of underglaze? Thank you!

    • @PotteryCrafters
      @PotteryCrafters  3 года назад

      That is a very good question. If you use regular glaze the dots may turn out fuzzy depending on how stable the glaze is. You would have to glaze the bowl first then add your speckles. Similar to the glaze dots in this post potterycrafters.com/glaze-trailing-pottery/ You could try a test fire and see how your glaze turns out 😊

  • @LunkyMonkey11
    @LunkyMonkey11 2 года назад

    Do you have to use a transparent glaze when speckling? I’ve seen artists have little black speckles with colored glazes as dark as cherry glaze.

    • @PotteryCrafters
      @PotteryCrafters  2 года назад +1

      Very good question. Yes, you would have to use a transparent glaze with an underglaze. They could have used a red underglaze and black speckles, then a clear glaze over it. Or a stable red glaze as a base and a stable black glaze for speckles. 😊

    Hello, Marie! I have 3 questions please. First, is colored slip the same as underglaze in the way that it behaves? Second, when I use black or red or latter brown clay and only apply clear glaze, no colored glaze, will the color of the claybody show through? Last one, if you mix a color stain with a dark clay body, is that okay or should I always use a white clay body to make colored clay and slip? Thank you so much! I appreciate your work.

    • @PotteryCrafters
      @PotteryCrafters  3 года назад +1

      Thank you.😍 Yes, colored slip is very similar to underglaze in the way it behaves. Underglaze contains a little frit which makes you able to apply it to bisque ware. Slip is meant for greenware.
      Yes, you can use black or red on brown clay and the color of the clay body will show through.
      If you mix a color stain with a dark clay body the color will be different. You can experiment and see how you like it. You will get a more true vibrant color from a white clay body. You can also make colored clay and slip. Play with small amounts and see how you like it.😀

    I'm back again! I have found that using a toothbrush is the best tool ever for spackling. Have you tried it? Please don't use the one you are currently using for your teeth.

    • @PotteryCrafters
      @PotteryCrafters  3 года назад

      Yes I did try the toothbrush and it didn't give me the bigger speckles 😊 They were so tiny so I went with the firm brush instead. You're right you can use a toothbrush too. The speckle effect is so cool. I could try buying a different toothbrush and try it again 😀
