    2yrs ago i 'Esquired' a second hand DIY Tele kit completely gutted out for new components and retaining the twangy ceramic bridge pickup (7.6K) later swapping it out for an imported twin railed SC sized humbucker (8.2K) that's got hot P90 twang that sings when i plug straight-no-chaser (no pedals) into my dimed-out 60-watt Carvin X-60C w/a factory installed 12-inch Celestion G12M70 speaker, running all three positions; my build was inspired by my uncle's B&W pic of a '55 blond whiteguard Fender Esquire he later traded for a Gretsch some time in the 60s...you got a sweet build too!

    Got a MJT body in Lake Placid Blue yesterday, and are assembling an Esquire. It’s gonna be my 50th birthday gift for myself. I will have some help from the luthiers I’ve been using for 25 years, just to find the right neck, doing the electronics and the final set-up. It’ll be a mix between vintage and modern specs. The body got nitro finish with a light relic, belly cut and arm contour. Going to get aged hardware to fit the body. SD Hotrails, VIPpots (550k), Eldred wiring. A 10-12 inch neck with rosewood fretboard and tall frets, finished by one of the luthiers in nitro. I’m actually quite excited!

    Hey guys. I just bought a rarities series telecaster and the switch tip was the o ly bad thing about it! Lol! It was a big clunky too hat that didn't even stay on. The point is, I bought a metal one for only eight dollars from a company called Forney custom. They have a great variety of colors and styles. Best part, it has a set screw and they even included the Allen wrench! It made a great upgrade to my Tele for almost nothing. I have copied your link for my purchases. I love your honesty and believe you can use a little boost right now more than some of the bigger channels. I think you will get there.

    Nice looking build Landon!
    When drilling pilot holes I usually just put the screw along side the drill bit to see how much of the drill bit is going to be used. Then I just wrap some painters or electrical tape around the drill bit so I know exactly where to stop when drilling. You may have done this before, but figured it was worth tossing out there. It certainly helps with the "ass-puckering" step of having to drill holes in your new guitar.

    I appreciate your perspective about everything. I'm exactly like you and just like building/assembling guitars. It's so much fun and meditative. Yes. I'm like you with the soldiering--it takes practice and education and really spending a little bit on a good hot soldier (40 watts or higher). I'm a tele man myself and have an esquire and a junior. They are perfect and make you work for the sound. Tele forever!!!!

    Looks like you've put together another really nice guitar. Famous Esquire players: Steve Cropper and Yardbirds era Jeff Beck. My only requests for your next build is try a Rock Rabbit control plate with the angled switch slot if you do another Tele build. I don't think it will work with an Obsidian wiring kit but it would have worked with this Esquire wiring kit. Also a 4-way switch mod is easy to do with a 2-pickup Tele. Fender makes the switch and has instructions. You have to solder an extra wire on the bottom of the neck pickup to the switch. Not that difficult.

    • @landonbailey
      @landonbailey  3 года назад

      cool! ya I have an angled switch on the Godin Stadium HT. I don't really find it helps me much.

    Very, niccce! Sounds and looks great! I was just looking at the cheap Eddie Vedder squire that’s similar, but it’s a Tele not an Esquire. Color is close but yours has no bullseye and arrow! Deal breaker! Hey, For $200 and PJ has been my favorite band since they came out, why not? If I had the money I would love to due what you did! Like you said, I’m no luthier or tech, so it was still something you chose and put together! Much respect, and it’s awesome! Great job! Always get a couple laughs from these videos! FYI, that wasn’t long! Phil McNights videos are like 1-2 hours long twice a week, but I love the guy and he also time stamps his videos. I still can’t leave one sentence comments because I can’t remember when I actually talked to someone on the phone instead of texting. My friends have 0 interest in guitars! They just listen to me, and have no clue what I’m talking about! Okay I’m done now!🤐

      @@landonbailey ya, there great, but when Jeremy came out and that’s my first name, everyone was singing my name to the lyrics and I have a crazy, funny group of friends that still give me crap today because I always have PJ on a playlist. Sleeping over at your friends when you’re a junior in high school, they would sing it all night like when it came out when I was 11! Haven’t thought of that in years, so it’s a lot more funny then it sounds, but I need to learn how to make quicker, shorter comments without sounding like a tool! Appreciate the love! Keep up the videos and I’ll work on shorter comments!! Lol

I just put together a three tone burst Strat with a Fender solid rosewood neck and the HSS Gen 4 noiseless loaded pick guard. The guitar sounds and feels fantastic too. Hey, question for you about the build. As there is one less pickup, do you find you're getting less 60 cycle hum? I didn't hear any at all in the video and didn't see you apply any shielding paint or foil, so assuming it may be hum free? Just curious, thanks!
